Licensing information

  • Drains & Things was first brought to the attention of the Better Business Bureau on October 3, 2023. A Better Business Bureau investigation revealed Drains & Things, shows the company does not have a 2024 business license according to the Commissioner of Revenue for Virginia Beach, Virginia and is listed as inactive on the website for the Virginia State Corporation Commission.  An Internet search of the company and principal revealed no adverse information and a viral search of the address on file with the BBB was revealed to be a private residence.  The company has had no reports posted to the BBB’s ScamTracker page: https://www.bbb.org/scamtracker/us.

According to the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Contractors (Board) website Drains & Things did not have a contractor’s license prior to December 2, 2024.

According to the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) any contractor who contracts for work over $1,000 is required to obtain one of the following license classifications:

Class C contractors are limited to contracts/projects of less than $10,000 with an aggregate total of all contracts/projects done in a twelve month period of less than $150,000.

Class B contractors are limited to contracts/projects of less than $120,000 with an aggregate total of all contracts/projects done in a twelve month period of less than $750,000.

Class A contractors have no limits to contract/project size based on dollar amounts.

A contractor’s license is not required for work that is under $1,000 with the exception of landscape irrigation and water well systems, both of which require a contractor license regardless of the dollar amount.

Trade-related work (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and gas-fitting) and elevator/escalator work, require that the individual performing be licensed for work that is under $1,000.

Once the work hits the $1,000 threshold, a contractor license is required for the company.

On November 22, 2024, an investigation letter was mailed to the company by this BBB regarding their lack of a contractor’s license.  As of the date of this Business Profile, the company has not responded to our investigation letter nor has the mail been returned by the post office as “Undeliverable.”
