1 starHeartbroken, betrayed, and left with a $6,305.73 ********* 6 year old dog was left nearly toothless!!I took my dog to *** **** at Animal Dental Clinic after Banfield (our trusted vet for 6 years) referred us to a veterinary dentist. Combo needed a few extractions. We were told to find an oral surgeon, and I chose *** ***** only because it was nearby & deeply regret not reading the reviews.During the consultation (which cost $200 and wasnt applied toward any service), *** **** never opened my dogs mouth. He sat on the floor to appear caring, and repeatedly said Combo would probably need several extractions. He warned us that small dogs like Combo often have genetic dental issues and emphasized repeatedly that the cost would be between $2,000 and $2,500. He also criticized ******** heavily, saying they dont know what theyre doing.Once he was under anesthesia, Doctor called to say only 6 teeth looked healthy. I told him to remove what was rotten and absolutely emergency, not to take every tooth unless there was no other option. When I went to pick him up, I was shocked to learn that he now had only 5 teeth left,& I had to pay $6,305.73 before they would release him to me. I was forced to put the charge on couple of cards while holding back ******** poor dog came home completely traumatized, shaking, barely eating, hiding, and in obvious pain, now going on 5 days. I couldnt sleep that night. I called the next day to plead for an explanation or even a partial refund, & *** **** took no accountability. He blamed me for not asking again about the price and refused to offer anything. No apology, no empathy, no responsibility This clinic misled me, emotionally pressured me, and mutilated my dog without proper consent, then handed me a bill more than double the ********** the bad reviews before you make the mistake I did. I trusted them & now my sweet, gentle dog is suffering, and my heart and wallet are broken. Don't let this happen to your loved onesAnimal Dental Clinic

O noted she could not fill out form online. 5/1 @ 0825KR escorted O and Combo to Exam 1. Weight was collected and the Client/Patient information sheet was filled out. 5/1 @ 0831Dr. Hall enters Exam 1. At 08:31:35 Dr. **** began an oral exam of Combo while the dog sat in the owners lap. Dr. **** asked O to confirm that his teeth were, in fact, cleaned in January due to the build up on the teeth. O stated she has tried many things at home, but Dr. **** noted you cant fight genetics. Dr. **** talked about his philosophy of selective extractions of small teeth in young, small breed dogs to aid in future oral health. Dr. **** noted that at the age she is now, there is a good chance she will be toothless before the end of her life, but she doesnt need her teeth. He also noted there are teeth that he can already see teeth that are likely uncomfortable and others that should come out now rather than risk jaw fracture later. Dr. **** notes that veterinarians are not trained in dentistry and oral surgery. He notes he was included in that when in veterinary school. He also discussed jaws that have fractured due to severe periodontal disease. He would rather have no teeth and healthy jawbone than teeth present letting bacteria in. He asked if she had any questions. He told her that we need to evaluate Combo to see how many teeth are present and the health of each. He noted that *** could be necessary, but it didnt need to be done in one surgery. However, we had a cancellation on the day so could fit her in if she would like Combo to stay. Dr. **** stated that he would not be comfortable putting Combo under anesthesia unless she was prepared to spend at least $2000-$2500. I can see teeth that need to be removed. To risk her life and not do something to move the bar forward to make her mouth healthier. Otherwise, to me, it is just me making money. He noted it wouldnt help her, and he didnt want to do that. He again stated she likely would need all of her teeth removed during her lifetime. O asked if everything could be done in one surgery and not come back again. Dr. **** said all the teeth may not need to be removed for medical reasons, but they would likely need to all go at some point. If she wants to be proactive and remove them all today, that may be a possibility. Dr. **** noted that he gives his medical opinion, and it is the owners choice what is done. Every doctor gives their medical opinion. Medicine is gray and the client must make the decision as to what makes sense to them and choose what to do. O notes she needed to speak to her husband to decide if Combo is going to stay. Dr. **** then notes You are in charge of everything I will call you.. this is what I found, this is what I recommend. You say great. Lets do all of it. Lets do some of it. I can afford X number of dollars. Whatever we agree to. Dr. **** noted that this is not an urgent issue. Some people can do all of the work at once and some can do it in multiple procedures. O stated she was fine with Combo staying for a procedure.5/1 @ 0849Dr. **** left Exam 1. O called husband. She noted that Dr. **** looked at Combos teeth, a little. She noted Dr. **** said there were several teeth he could already see had a problem, but ADC needed to further evaluate before deciding what needed to done. She reviewed the jaw fracturing from periodontal disease. She said it was likely Combo will need numerous teeth removed. This will help give him a healthy jawline and less pain when eating. She said that Dr. **** noted that Banfield cleanings are just a business and doesnt take care of the teeth. She and her husband agree to leave Combo for a procedure. 5/1 @ 0853O returns to front lobby to sign paperwork. O asked questions about CareCredit. ** answered her questions and referred her to the company for the remaining questions. ** goes over the release form. Dr. **** came in to ask if she wanted any of Combos extracted teeth to bring home. KR let her know Dr. **** would call once the evaluation was done. O then changes to wanting the extracted teeth. 5/1 @ 0906O leaves ADC 5/1 @ 1156MG called O to let her know that Combo has received pre-op medication. Dr. **** will call with findings once diagnostics are done.5/1 @ 1210Anesthesia began. Intraoral radiographic images were taken 5/1 @ 1246Dr. Hall called O. Noted mouth was in poor condition. Stated there are probably for teeth on the bottom that can stay and upper left canine tooth and there are three teeth on the bottom and three teeth on the top that can stay.. Theyre on opposites sides.. I am 100% sure, after seeing everything, Combo will not make it through life with teeth. Dr. **** offered to remove teeth all now or in a few surgeries. Os response No, lets do it. I dont want to put him through this again. Dr. **** asked So you want us to take out all of his teeth? They then discussed *** and doing it in more than one procedure and that it was her preference. He noted that low blood sugar was a concern and that it would be reviewed at discharge. He again discussed the decision was her. I prefer for him to get through the pain one time and be done with it if hes going to be okay. Dr. **** noted he cant guarantee but the odds were that he would be fine. O then asked how many teeth were being extracted. Dr. **** asked for clarification since she had just approved ***. O stated If they dont need to go, lets keep them. Dr. **** noted that those teeth will need to be removed at some point in his lifetime. O stated, Lets keep the ones that are still okay in there and just pull whatever that need to go. Dr. **** then gave her an approximate go-home time. 5/1@ 1438Anesthesia Ended 5/1 @ 1443MG called O to let her know Combo was in recovery. O could be on the way to pick up Combo. ** confirmed payment would be CareCredit and something else. O noted that she has $5500 for CareCredit. ** asked if she was planning on paying the majority on CareCredit then. O agreed.5/1 @ 1447O returns to pick up Combo.5/1 @ 1501O talks on the phone with someone while in the lobby. 5/1 @ 1522Dr. **** came out to talk to O. Noted that Combo has 5 teeth remaining. There were several ****, and explained what those are. Dr. **** noted the glucose is fine now but was sending home some ******** as a preventative to hypoglycemia. He said Combo may not want to eat tonight, which was okay. He went over the home medications. Reviewed expectations, what to watch out for, recheck, etc. He asked if O had any other questions. She did not. Dr. **** noted Combo would be going home with an e-collar. 5/1 @ 1536O walked to the counter to pay **** and sign final paperwork. When she was told the total she said in the morning they said something about max $2500. Then she started texting someone. She sent multiple texts before the person responded. Then she took pictures of our artwork that says, You can tell me, Im adopted. After the CareCredit payment went through, she paid the balance and signed the paperwork. She then listened to something on her phone. 5/1 @ 1544Combo is brought out to her and how to use the e-collar was explained to her by ML. ** also told her to remove the bandage from the *** in about an hour. She reviewed blood can drip from the nose due to ONF/R. O and Combo then left the clinic.5/2 @ 1101O called and spoke with Dr. ***** She noted Combo is doing well. They discussed attitude and urinating normally. Dr. **** noted giving the dextrose/honey/maple syrup every 30 minutes. Dr. **** asked if he received his pain meds and O confirmed he had. O noted spouse was very mad at her for making the decision. She noted that the bill could be between $2000-2500 and KR noted we would call if there was anything else. She asked if we could give her a discount. She then notes that while talking about the care Combo needed 5/1 during the 1246 phone call, finances were not discussed. She also notes that, while she was not given a total number of teeth to be extracted, Combo would have 5-6 teeth remaining. Dr. **** notes they discussed FMX, leaving healthier teeth, doing the surgery all at once or in several surgeries. She then brought up the discussed $2000-2500. Dr. **** reminded her that this was in relation to him noting he needed work in the mouth and he wasnt willing to put Combo under unless she was committed to spending at least that much on the day of surgery. He noted he wasnt sure during the consultation what would be needed. She complained numbers were not discussed. He notes that our paperwork notes we just need to know you want revised pricing and she never noted she needed new pricing information. She continued to complain that he did not offer the dollar amount up front. He explained why we do not throw numbers around. She then complained that having her sign that she understands she can ask for new pricing for additional work isnt fair because most people dont read (what they sign) and you know that also. She then tried to imply we were doing it to try to prevent disclosing the new amount. Her opinion that the fault was on us as well as herself. Dr. **** notes that she wants money back or she is going to leave bad reviews. Dr. **** noted that he asked if she had a limit earlier in the day. She then stated that her limit was the $2000-2500 (but noted on the paperwork, see above) that *** was authorized to do what was necessary if we could not reach her, no limit). O tried to say she did not authorize $4000 additional money. She said she was up all night in pain over the cost. O stated that her husband stated they could have bought several other dogs for this price. She admits she was wrong about not asking but Dr. **** should have told her anyway because she doesnt believe we have customers that dont want to know about pricing. O stated that she has worked in surgery rooms before and knows that prices are doubled and tripled. 5/5 @ 0953O called and spoke with SH. O wanted everything she signed emailed to her. She confirmed she can email records.5/5 @ 0955SH called O back to let her know everything is available on the portal. O stated that she never received access to the portal. SH noted the estimate was not available that way but she would email it to her.5/5O left a negative review on Yelp: 5/5O left a negative review on ******* 5/5O left a negative review at the Better Business Bureau: 5/5 @ 1116EB emailed O regarding the reviews:Good Morning *** ***,I would like to start by asking how ***** is doing. 1 starI am disappointed and frustrated regarding the billing practices of the Animal Dental Clinic.
Recently, I scheduled an initial appointment for my pet at this clinic, specifically for a dental consult. I was asked to pay a substantial amount of money, nonrefundable, upfront before the actual appointment took place. This practice seemed quite unfair and left me feeling dissatisfied with the overall experience.
In my opinion, it is customary for veterinary clinics to charge for services rendered after the appointment, once the veterinarian has had an opportunity to assess the specific needs of the pet. Requiring payment upfront, especially for a preliminary examination, felt like an unnecessary financial burden for pet owners.
I believe transparency and fairness are crucial in any business, and this experience has left me questioning the integrity of Animal Dental Clinic's billing practices. It is disheartening to feel taken advantage of, particularly when seeking medical care for a beloved pet.
I urge Animal Dental Clinic to reconsider its billing policies to ensure a more customer-friendly approach. Transparency in pricing and billing will undoubtedly contribute to a more positive and trusting relationship between your clinic and pet owners.
I hope my feedback will be taken constructively, and that Animal Dental Clinic will consider reevaluating their billing procedures for the benefit of their clients and their pets.Animal Dental Clinic

Faye,
When you called the day before to schedule a consultation for Ollie we explained that anyone scheduling an appointment within the same week is required to pay a non-refundable deposit at the time of scheduling. In the case of consultations, this is the full cost of the visit ($180). This was fully explained to you yesterday before providing payment details. You were also immediately sent an email that explained that last-minute cancellation forfeits your fee. Unfortunately, you have had an emergency and could not make your appointment this morning.
When you called & spoke to me this morning, I took into consideration your situation & offered to reschedule your appointment to a later date rather than forfeit your fee. You declined. I then told you I would hold the amount for a later appointment, but could not refund the money, as per the policy that was explained to you both over the phone & by email yesterday.
I am not sure how we could have been more transparent & upfront about our fees than we were. We informed you at the time of scheduling what the costs were, the policies affecting this fee & followed them up with an email. You agreed to these terms before paying for the appointment. We have this policy due to last-minute cancellations & the inability to refill the appointment at such a late timing. Seeing only a few patients a day, a cancellation (especially those here for procedures) can impact our day greatly. We also often have a wait list of patients trying to get sooner appointments. When that happens, we could have called one of them in, had we had advance notice.
In your case, I understand there was no advance warning to be given. That is why I tried to work with you & your situation rather than just forfeit your consultation fee. We also feel we are fair in our costs & very comparable to those in the DMV. In fact, there are many that cost more. I am sorry you felt our fees were too high. I wish we could have had a better conversation by phone, but I understand you are dealing with other issues right now. I hope everything turns out alright for you & those around you.
Sincerely,
Cristal W******
