I paid $1400 to have furniture moved from Vinton to Botetourt. At the end of the move day, Brad **** approached me, saying he was too tired to continue. He needed to hire more help. Two dressers were sitting in my front entryway, which I could not move. I felt like he waited until the furniture barricaded me to decide he was finished.
Feeling like I had no choice, I agreed to an additional $400 fee and wrote a check for Brad to finish the job. Both of my checks were cashed.
Then I found the damaged 65-inch TV that had been hidden in the garage, as well as a large dresser with its legs split open. The dresser sat at an angle, blocking my entry to my bedroom. When I texted Mr. **** about the damage, I was told he would not return with the promised labor; instead, he was refunding the second $400 payment. I told him the furniture needed to be moved, but he did not respond to phone calls or texts. I never agreed to receive the $400 refund of the now $1800 paid and let the matter drop. I was left with a check from Brad **** for $400 that was placed in my mailbox.
Under my original agreement with Mr. ****, the furniture should have been moved. No time limit or number of hours was placed on the move. I should not have been asked to pay more at the end of the day. I deposited the $400 check and received no further communication from Mr. **** until seven months later, in a public forum, where I was told he felt his commitment to me had been satisfied.
I had to pay $300 to other movers to move the furniture out of my front entryway. The TV was beyond repair and went into the trash. The dresser looks out of place where Brad left it, but I'm scared to move it because my cosmetic fix likely won't hold structurally. Doorway trim was broken, and plaster was knocked from the walls. My home is a mess. The business advertises me as licensed and insured, but my claim wasn't accepted.
I'm left with damaged walls, broken furniture & a trashed 65" TV.
