I am still angry at the poor work that has been done. Back in the end of September - beginning of October 2022 ... I hired A Better Handyman to first fix my wooden fence and then would judge whether or not I would have him do a repair and remodeling job inside my house. I work a lot and I'm home and at the office 6-7 days a week but my neighbors are great and both sides watched.
I was given a quick estimate of the cost and would get a cost breakdown when I got back from a use of lose timeshare. He was charging me $**** and I left a check for $****. The day I left, and after working for various amounts of time the week week, I was told they were done. I was shocked but thought I heard from owner, so I thought there was a mistake. No... I got taken for $**** for a fence that would fall over in the windstorm in December. Now it's propped up and waiting for another bid. Of course, the owner was upset that I refused to pay the additional $**** and was threatening to go to court himself. So many things wrong. Obviously, he did not but I have to set up small claims court myself and I have VERY little time to do that, but I was clearly "ripped off" for the shoddy work that was supposed to represent his professional work. Everyone who has seen this agree with me. I never got a printout for materials breakdown, estimates ... although he claimed he did, but would not provide a copy when I asked. I never signed a contract for the work that he was supposedly going to do.

We went over and beyond for this customer. We were told he needed to rush out of town to take care of his mother in Florida. The customer accepted our bid in person and asked us to get started right away - even stating that he would leave a check for the materials under the doormat as he was anxious for us to get started. He accepted the bid via email after our estimator left the property. Since Mr **** wanted the work done asap but was leaving, we agreed to start the work (getting a check left for us) and we left the paperwork which doubles as a receipt in the checks place (in the customer's zip lock bag back under the mat) . The reason it was not signed by him, was because his verbal acceptance on email and his check left for materials served as our authorization for work to begin.
Not only did this customer not pay our end balance - he also did not pay $*** for 4 additional posts which had to be dug out and set in order to get the fence repair properly performed ... there was a ton of digging that had to be performed which was unaccounted for - the roots were horrendous. The job was very labor intensive.
The customer did reach out to us to say he was not paying the end balance - we did try several times to get a date he could meet in person to discuss a way to rectify any concerns - he was yet to make himself available and to the point where there was a mention of us taking the matter to small claims. We decided to try again to mediate this before court and would be willing to do so with the help of BBB . We have emails and texts to verify our statement reply if needed.
We hope this matter could be resolved. This is the VERY FIRST im hearing about the fence blowing over - the last we heard the customer was contesting the amount of work performed..not the quality of work. This is all new to me
    Kindly
