    Al’s Building & Construction was first brought to the attention of the Better Business Bureau on September 8, 2023. A Better Business Bureau investigation revealed the company did not have a 2024 business license according to the Commissioner of Revenue for Norfolk, Virginia.  An Internet search of the company and principal revealed no adverse information. A viral search of the address on file with the BBB was revealed to be the location for Booker T. Washington High School.  The company has had no reports posted to the BBB’s ScamTracker page: https://www.bbb.org/scamtracker/us.

  • According to the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) Al’s Building & Construction does not have a contactors license as required by law. 

    According to the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) any contractor who contracts for work over $1,000 is required to obtain one of the following license classifications:

    Class C contractors are limited to contracts/projects of less than $10,000 with an aggregate total of all contracts/projects done in a twelve-month period of less than $150,000.

    Class B contractors are limited to contracts/projects of less than $120,000 with an aggregate total of all contracts/projects done in a twelve-month period of less than $750,000.

    Class A contractors have no limits to contract/project size based on dollar amounts.

    A contractor’s license is not required for work that is under $1,000, with the exception of landscape irrigation and water well systems, both of which require a contractor license regardless of the dollar amount.

    Trade-related work (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and gas-fitting) and elevator/escalator work, require that the individual performing be licensed for work that is under $1,000. Once the work hits the $1,000 threshold, a contractor license is required for the company.

    On December 10, 2024, a letter was sent by mail to the company requesting basic information on the company, such as principal, number of employees, email, and website. On December 10, 2024, an investigation letter was sent to the company regarding their lack of contractor’s license. 

    As of the date of this Business Profile, the company has not responded to this Better Business Bureau’s requests for basic information or received a response regarding company’s lack of a contractor’s license. Mail sent to the company has not been returned by the post office.
