      I submitted the following complaint to **************, operated by Booz Allen Hamilton regarding two reservations made in *********************************** (CA) charges an $8 surcharge for booking online. Since this is a popular campground that fills up a soon as campsites are released 6 months in advance of the available camping dates, you can be sure that at least 90% of the bookings for this campground are done online. That means you are charging a surcharge for booking online to 90% of customers of this campsite. Aside from not knowing a single retailer or hospitality operator who charges customers for using their website and booking engine, why dont you just bake this hidden fee into your base priceor more appropriately, not charge it at all?! I mean, what exactly does this surcharge cover, especially in light of the fact that its a discretionary charge you make available to individual campsite operators? And you add insult to injury by 1) not explaining up front what this surprise fee is when the booking confirmation screen is presented online, 2) charging sales tax on this bogus surcharge and 3) refunding $26 on a $44 booking fee regardless of how far in advance a cancellation is made. This is plain and simple a combination of hidden fees, predatory pricing, and price gouging. And its especially insulting to customers like me who get up at the crack of **** to compete with others who are all vying for the same very limited number of tent campsites. Im not even going to get into how unfair and inaccessible your system is for people who are less abled, less computer literate, or simply not fast enough or motivated enough to deal with a booking experience with such low odds of actually booking successfully. Im reporting you to the Better Business Bureau and the CA Attorney General for lack of transparency, hidden fees, and predatory pricing. Its no wonder no one trusts the US govt.

For context,************** is managed by a fully dedicated Government team and staffed with resources from the participating agencies (e.g., *********************, *****************). All fees through ************** are managed by the participating agencies, and are sent to the US Treasury for processing.  Booz Allen is contracted to assist with building and maintaining the recreation management and reservation service. Booz Allen does not set the fees collected and processed through **************. While Booz Allen performs the work, designs and content are determined and approved by the Government.
