I am taking time from my day to write this complaint about a contractor that goes by the name Triple R Construction Inc., 11500 Robertson Drive, Manassas 20109. If this helps clean up the cesspool of contractors in the smallest way, it is time well spent. In 2000 this company was a primary contractor installing a septic system for my home. Over the years the system has performed well with few necessary service calls. Recently there have been service calls and Triple R was the contractor. Going back to the company that installed the system seemed like a wise decision. This company is one of a few that maintain these septic systems in Prince William County they are a critical point of failure for many homeowners. Several of these companies treat their customers like “you need help? We know you need us and we can behave, respond, or not respond as we see fit. You have absolutely no influence on what we do.” Triple R will send technicians to the home and these people who represent the company do very good work. The problems arise when the main office has to be dealt with. A lady whose name starts with “Es” has a reputation as a hostile hard to work with person both internally and with customers. How do the customers know this? The technicians will share that, you will know it if you ever have to talk one-on-one with “Es”. The company marks up the replacement hardware product significantly, two or three times the actual cost – maybe more than that. The technicians know this and will help you find a product that works and you order it yourself, saving hundreds of dollars. If the technicians represent the company you would think this is supported by the company. Once the office gets wind of this they claim we broke company policy. If you call to ask for any service, regardless of if the hardware in question is the problem or not, you are met with hostility and accusations “what you are trying to pull off?” Almost all conversations are shouting matches over the phone. I am not the one to police what is covered and what is not. I assume all work performed is backed in some way. This “Es” refused to consider the warranty request, claimed I was at fault, claimed I was “trying to pull off” something. Shouting ensues and they will tell you to find someone else to perform the work. They do not stand by the work performed. Upon contacting the Environmental Health department of the county government they tell you they have a list of contractors and they cannot recommend any of them. That in itself is a clue. There is no tracking of customer complaints. I’m told the state licenses these companies and then the company has to apply to work in the county – they have to demonstrate then understand county code. Several septic maintenance companies I have dealt with are a “gool ol’ boys club” They think they have you over a barrel and they take advantage of that. I have dealt with one other company that I will not mention here. So here is my complaint. Triple R charges exorbitant prices for the hardware they install. They have a customer relationship that is more like a script in a soap opera. They draw the customer into the internal employee interplay strife. The technicians do good work, it is their main office, one particular person in the office that is the problem. The technicians represent the company this representation is missing at Triple R. Triple R will not back the work their technicians perform. They will tell you “you weren’t charged for that”. My advice is to adopt a rating system for these companies. Link it with the BBB to keep it independent. Someone needs to police these companies. If a license can be granted, it can be revoked. If an OK to work within the county can be granted, that OK can be revoked. This may force these companies to drop the price gouging and mobster like customer interaction. Thank you.
