We would not recommend Equity Enterprise, Inc./Scott & Paul Bloomfield for a new home build. Our experience was very, very disappointing. The anticipated finish date for our home was scheduled for July 31 and we were not able to move in until August 22. Since we were moving from out of state, we had to pay out additional funds for a place to stay while they were finishing up our house. Our home was finished in an extremely unprofessional manner. The paint job was the worst I’ve ever seen; i.e., pieces of junk in the paint, places that were completely missed, drips everywhere, paint on the floors that was never cleaned up, paint on just about every door hinge, paint on our fireplace stones, paint on our cement front porch and on the brick of the house, paint drips on our siding, uneven paint lines between the walls and ceiling, dripped paint on the grout in the bathrooms that wasn’t cleaned up, painter got so much red paint on the white trim of our front door that we had to repaint it because it looked so bad, painter only painted one coat of enamel paint on the inside trim so every window sill has pencil marks showing through where they marked the windows, many of the edges of our trim were not painted and much, much more. Estimate to fix all the damage the painter did is $35.00 per hour, per person plus the cost of painting, and approximately a few days to complete repairs. Another company gave us an estimate of $14,000.00 to fix all the damage and repaint. Damaged indoor trim was used in our house. Many of the pieces had nicks and dents in them. Workers even used a piece of broken trim that they glued together rather than just install a new piece of trim, it’s very obvious and looks horrible. Baseboard behind the master bath toilet was pieced together. It’s a 3-foot piece. Couldn’t understand why workers could not install a solid piece of baseboard. They did a very poor job finishing it and it looks terrible as well. Dishwasher was hooked up to cold water instead of hot. Inspector caught the error. Builder said that the inspector didn’t know what he was doing. A quick check on the internet confirms the inspector’s findings. Every room in our house ended up with cracks in the corners of the drywall. The ceiling drywall tape in our living room came loose and we have lots of nail pops. Driveway cement cracked within the first month. This was brought to the builder’s attention and he said the subs should have installed an expansion joint. Builder didn’t offer to fix it, but suggested that we repair it ourselves. We have a basket weave tile on our master bath shower floor and it was installed out of square. There was one small piece of the basket weave tile that was missing, so rather than take a piece from another sheet of tile, the worker just filled it in with grout – looks awful! Also, the shower was supposed to be a walk-in shower without a door. It’s too small, so when you take a shower the water splashes on the floor and on the drywall outside of the shower. Builder’s suggestion to remedy the problem was to put down a mat. Still doesn’t address the wet drywall. We had to install a glass shower door at $2,200.00 to correct the problem. Also, the grout line around the top of the shower and down the side of the shower is very messy and uneven. Yard was graded incorrectly by the builder and water would pool at the bottom of our yard. We had to install a drainage pipe to correct the problem at $380.00. Shiplap was nailed around the bottom of our kitchen island. The nails from the shiplap went through the inside of the island kitchen cabinets. Not only was this a hazard, but it also caused damage to our brand new cabinets. Builder’s solution was to snip the nails and caulk the holes, so we are left with damaged cabinets. The cement subs splattered cement all over our brick around our patio and also on the brick walls by the patio. Brick masons did not clean off excess mortar in several areas on our outside brick. Estimate to clean off the cement and mortar is $600.00 plus. Screw holes in the support posts by the front door are not filled with caulk. Looks unprofessional and unfinished. Builder should have installed trim. The light fixture in one of our bathrooms is way off center from the vanity. A glass globe in our master bath is cracked – never replaced. Almost all the doors in our house are out of square and are not plumb. The reveal around the doors is not even either and most of the doors stick and do not shut properly. Daylight can be seen between the door and the door stop. Also, several door jams were cut too short. A door was installed in the hot water heater closet in our garage. Builder purchased the wrong door. Rather than return the door and get the proper door, the builder installed the existing door BACKWARDS. Plus, the door didn’t even shut properly and stay closed. The steps to our bonus room are dreadful. Several of the treads are cut too short. The risers also have gaps in between the step and the top of the riser. Where the stringers were pieced together at the bottom of the steps, they did a very poor job finishing them. Plus, where the stringers meet, they do not lay flat and one piece sticks out further than the other. Also, where the stringers are nailed, the caulking is sloppy and messy. Two of the vanities in our extra bathrooms are not bolted to the wall. We consider this a safety hazard. There were a lot of additional issues that are not covered here because of space limitations. The longer we live here we find more and more problems. Overall, our home build was unprofessional. There was no quality control and absolutely no attention to detail. We are extremely dissatisfied and disappointed to say the least. We thought by getting a new house we could avoid all the fix ups. Unfortunately, we’ve had to pay out of pocket to fix a lot of problems that we didn’t plan on. We feel like we’ve gotten a fixer upper rather than a new house.
