About This Business

Do not confuse with genuine federal agencies with similar names.

Despite its official sounding name, this entity is not a government agency.  Consumers should be alert to the fact that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which is a genuine federal government agency, has no relationship to this promotion.   Original information from consumers stated that they were being approached by phone calls announcing that they had won a monetary prize, but would have to pay 1% in advance to secure the payment.

Consumers sometimes then receive subsequent calls from persons identifying themselves as being agents for the Consumer Protection Bureau, checking on the status of the sweepstakes prize.  It appears that the Sweepstakes offer which seems to identify itself as being in Las Vegas, NV and the entity calling itself the Consumer Protection Bureau are two parts of one operation.  The web site for Consumer Protection Bureau displays a list of names for "agents" and the consumer might match up the name of the caller with a name on the web site.  This is all intended to entice the consumer to send their money on by wire or green dot card, which essentially makes it impossible to stop the transaction.

Recent calls promise no cost to "winner," but indicate a personal delivery of check.   The usual  practice in such promotions would ask for a processing fee or insurance fee later in the interaction.  Such payment to be wired to an individual, making it virtually untraceable.   As always, the Better Business Bureau advises the public to disregard such promotions.
