We hired Ben's to unload our Old Dominion freight trailer into storage a month before we arrived to town. When we finally arrived, we discovered disarray and damaged items: 1. Our nice mattress is stuffed between boxes in an "S" shape. 2. Many heavy furniture items and boxes labeled "books" and such are placed on top of more delicate and now-partially-crushed lighter boxes, which may contain art or other fragile items. 3. Because we're initially living in a furnished rental here, we placed pink labels on a minority of boxes we would need first, which we asked to be separated for easy pickup on arrival. We explained this to Ben's in an email and also verbally to each member of their staff we spoke with.  We later learned from our storage unit manager that the guys just unloaded everything without separating these labeled items. When they were almost done unloading, they were told about the pink boxes, at which point they apparently took out all the furniture and boxes, searched for the pink boxes, and stuffed everything back in.  Bens did not mention this to us. Our bill was larger than expected, but now it makes sense that this was likely due to being charged for the unnecessary re-arrangement.  4. We had asked for an aisle to be created in the units. Instead, the movers left space in the rear of the units, but the front is completely packed, making most items inaccessible. We have of course tried to resolve this with Ben's, asking at a minimum for the unit to be rearranged to fix the problems described above. We got the runaround, with canned responses. We even reached out to the owner Benjamin *. G********** directly, thinking his staff may not be alerting him to problems. But no, he parroted their unhelpful canned responses.

I used ******* on the recommendation of a friend. We are building a new home and had to put our furniture in storage. In April our contract was for $169 per unit (we are using 3 units). They increased the price to $189 in July, a 13% increase. Then in September they said they were requiring all the units to have insurance and charged me $15 per unit per month (outlandishly high price). I purchased renters insurance for $10/mo. and they agreed to give me a $45 credit on the next month instead of removing the $45 charge. Then in October they increased the price again to $209 per unit, a $20 increase. That means in six months they have increased the price by almost 25%. Last I looked inflation was running at 8.2%. And there was no notification of the latest price increase until we saw in on our bill. It was done unilaterally. I have also been informed that it will probably increase again before my new home is finished. It was explained to me that when demand for the units increases the price per unit increases. I then asked if demand lessened would my price per unit decrease and the response is that is not how the pricing model they use works. In other words, it can increase your price but not decrease it.Once this company has your furniture and they realize you have to leave it in storage they just increase the price knowing you are helpless. I would recommend finding another company, one that will sign a contract for the designated period of time at a price for the length of the contract. ******* Moving and Storage has not behaved reputably.
