They charged me $16.41 for absolutely nothing. The system walked me through Federal taxes, immediately followed by a prompt to do state taxes. Before filling out my state taxes the software prompted me to pay for preparation and filing of state taxes - however at the end of the process their software tells me they ******-file my federal, nor my state my taxes because I had zero income in 2023.Why would it ask me to pay for state taxes after it saw I had zero income on my federal taxes??Why it couldnt e-file anything? I contacted customer service for a refund and they have not issued one. I am going to dispute this with my credit card considering I received NO SERVICE - there was nothing to be prepared for state taxes based on zero income, nor did it e-file anything.Review from Tyler N

They charged me an extra fee for paying their fees with my refund (that they didn't even disclose until I got the receipt) and my state return came in the mail and was not deposited into my account like I selected. Absolute crooks.Review from Nadia S

Unfortunately, I have a bad experience with this service, even worse this year. It's said that this service is called a partner. When filing my taxes for 2022 (the day of the deadline), they charged me for the state tax filing but, later in the process, informed me that I should submit paper forms; no warning or information about the possibility of this outcome popped up prior to being charged. It was too late to mail anything at that point. I found a number online that I called that apparently wasn't theirs. Their site didn't have any phone number, so I had to ask my bank to dispute this charge and explain what happened. This year, I started a few days before the deadline in case they will not be able to e-file. I filled out all my forms but could not submit a payment as it was declined. I found a Reddit topic with someone's recommendation to create a support case, which I did. ************** replied with the requirement to pay $35 as compensation for the dispute from last year. Otherwise, they will not accept my submission. I refused, explaining that the service was not provided. The last message from the support was "Hello, I'm glad that you prepared the return in time to make alternate arrangements this year." I don't think it's worth continuing with this service anyway. I plan to share this message and screenshots on LinkedIn to so that their Leadership and followers see that too. Shame.Review from tom t

TaxHawk rebranded as FreeTaxUSA in order to avoid the terrible ratings it has all over the internet. There is no number on their website, their email responses are flippant and unhelpful, and after digging through the internet archive, I was able to find a phone number, which plainly states that no customer service is available through the phone. I know all this because loudly and proudly, FreeTaxUSA boasts about free state and federal filings. Despite qualifying, I was charged 15 dollars for my state tax filing. The email representative , explained that I had to click an exact link on the *** website in order to receive the credit. Only by clicking on this link an remaining on that exact url (dont ever close the window and god forbid log out and log back in or even use another device) would you get the free state filing. The only solution is to make a whole new account with the link from the *** website. You would then have to reenter all your tax information entirely from scratch. After investigation, you can see that many many people report of TaxHawk failing to post their refund amounts into their accounts. This company is shady at best, and criminal at worst. I have left a detailed complaint with the *** alerting them of the untrustworthiness of both TaxHawk and FreeTaxUSA, and have been informed that there is an investigation beginning. Please everyone who has had a problem with TaxHawk in the past report your issues directly to the ***. At the very very least, they have to be removed from the ***'s approved providers list. The only way we will see justice is by reporting repeatedly to the *** directly.Review from Primavera F

Freetaxusa is a scam for those who elect to receive their refund on a Greendot debit card. Please do not file with them. They are scammers. I have been contacting them for a year. The *** has requested the money back but no resolution has been made yet. ******** cannot tell me where the money went or validate the deposits the *** sent to the accounts that the *** gave me that they went to. The partner banking department at sbtpg.com cannot validate the account I learned the money went to. Greendot customer service representatives tell me they don't see any deposits at all yet I have transcripts that the *** sent the money. I am also seeing that the *** has no protections for this type of fraudulent activity.Review from Timothy S

Absolute scammers. I tried to do my taxes through Freetaxusa.com and would not let me move forward without paying for expert help of *****. This company should not be in business.TaxHawk, Inc. Response

We are always concerned when one of our customers has an experience like this.if you are having trouble removing expert help from your cart our support agents are ready and willing to assist you with the removal of that item.We pride ourself in allowing our customers to file a free federal tax return and charge a nominal fee of ***** for each state and for those that would like help from a tax expert there is that option, but it certainly is not required to file either a federal return or a state return.Review from Tony J

Not free - false advertising! I went through the *** free file section, clicked on FreeFileUSA because it says "All States Free" and after entering ALL of my information it says you have to enter your credit card and pay $14.99 for state filing.Review from Brandy C

I completed my return and it was pretty easy but, after I submitted my return, I realized I had not uploaded my W-2s. I had to email them because there is no phone number and I got an email response stating that I needed to click in the link for a response, and it conveniently led me to a dead end where the server was not working properly. This is so frustrating and now my refund will be delayed. There should be a requirement for there to be a phone number to callTaxHawk, Inc. Response

We appreciate the opportunity to ************* your tax return this year. When you e-file your return, the *** does not require you to upload a copy of your **2 to include with the submission. They receive a copy of the **2, and they will match the entries on your e-filed return with the entries on those forms. We aplogize for the dead link and will get that fixed.Review from Terri E

I will NEVER be using Tax Hawk again. I used them to do my 2020 and 2021 taxes and because I had not filed my 2020 taxes I ended up doing my 2020 taxes the same day I did my 2021 taxes. I paid tax hawk for both sets of taxes. Later when I tried again to access my *************************************************** back to my 2021 taxes. I contacted customer support and they were of NO support!!! I will be filing a formal complaint to recover the monies I did pay for my 2021 taxes that I now will have to have redone. BUT, I WILL NEVER USE TAX HAWK AGAIN AND UNLESS YOU LIKE HEADACHES AND ISSUES I WOULDNT RECOMMEND USING TAX HAWK!!Review from Sandy R

I went to my State's tax website to find a free solution for filing taxes. One of the options was "FreeTaxUsa Free File Edition" - Free is state TWICE. I clicked the link and it went to their webpage that says "Free Federal and State Filing For anyone with an *** under $46,000"and "If you don't qualify, your Federal return is free and State filing is $14.99"AND "Do you qualify for Free Federal and State? You can file free if...Your Adjusted Gross Income was $46,000 or less in 2022"AND a place to click labeled "Start Your Free Return"Spoiler alert. There is no free return. I entered all the information. The *** was way below $46K and a half hour later when it was time to file, it wouldn't let me proceed unless I paid $14.99. I sent a message to support 3 days ago asking what the deal was and got no response. I'm not sure how this could be any more misleading. What part of "Free Federal and State" don't I understand? The qualifications are clear and I qualify. Only after spending a half hour painstakingly entering all the info do they drop the bomb that "oops, we lied. It's not free"Disgusting.
