    Pattern of Complaint:

BBB files indicate that this business has a pattern of complaints concerning billing issues, including overcharging and charging cards without authorization. On 10/25/2019, BBB submitted a written request to the company encouraging them to address a pattern of complaints alleging customer service issues, billing issues, and unsatisfactory work. The business initially responded with ideas to resolve these issues which included updating their customer relationship management system and discussing issues at their weekly meetings.

BBB has determined that the customer service and quality issues appear to be largely resolved at this time, however, consumers continue to allege the business is overcharging and charging cards without authorization. The business states that their price list is freely available on their website but key items, namely “Overhead” and “Overhead & Profit” are listed at $0 until the bill is generated. The business states customer’s do sign a release to charge their card should payment be required, however, consumers claim they did not receive a bill or any notice prior to the charge which occurred sometimes months after the job was completed, assuming insurance would be covering it. Consumers claim they are told only their deductible will need to be paid out of pocket but claims are then denied or partially denied allegedly due to the high dollar amounts, excessive, or uncustomary charges.

02/05/21. Hi everyone. My husband and I called Expert Restoration, out of desperation, when our basement flooded. Ryan showed up and told us they would take care of everything and the insurance would cover the cost. He stated they work with Farmers all of the time and would make sure they covered everything. We would only have to pay our deductible. He also said it would most likely cost about $5,000 to cleanup and replace all the drywall, and carpet pad, etc. So, my husband signed the paper for him to do the work. After speaking to Farmers, they told me they were only paying the reasonable and fair amount of $4,200 approximately. I researched this company and was sickened by what I found online about them. I received a call from Tiffany with Expert Restoration this morning and she was asking if I had received my check from the insurance. She said it was mailed on Monday. I told her I had not. Then I started asking her how this was going to work out. She told me they go after the insurance and Ryan was honest by telling me they would pay it. Several times she said, "If we get the check from you, then we can go after the insurance for the rest". She then said, we will not start charging interest on this if you get me the check. I asked her if she would give me a signed paper stating I would not owe them anymore than what Farmers paid since they were going after the insurance. She said she would have to ask about that. Again, I asked her, "What if the insurance doesn't cover it all". She told me I would have to pay, since my husband or I signed the paper. She was very nice and cordial, but she kept going in circles about who was ultimately responsible for the remaining balance. She said Farmers was ultimately responsible and they would work with me, if I gave them the check, to get Farmers to pay. I told Tiffany if they sign the check, that is taking payment in full. She said it doesn’t work like that and it is only a partial payment. I told her I was going to do a 3rd party call with my insurance agent to get it worked out. I am not sure I want to give them the check until I know what they are going to charge me. Do they place liens on our homes? Does anyone know if I should file a suit or wait for them to file against me? Received a call from Tiffany regarding check on 03/05/2021 at 0957 hours. Bill said they did not suck any water out of the basement. He did before their arrival with a small vacuum. He also offered for them to throw the garbage in the dump trailer, they said they will take it. 6/12/21-Received an email saying we owe Expert Restoration $5,282.54. 6/14/21-Disputed the charges. Asked for arbitration. Insurance paid $4,200 and $1,000 was deducted for our lost food in our refrigerator and freezer. The amount left is $3,396.34. They have a mechanics lien on our home when we were just notified. How do they justify this and get away with it. My husband was in the basement most of the time Ryan and one other guy were here working. They did not do the work they said they did. They did not remove any water and they did not remove the furniture from the room. They lied about the insurance covering the cost and told us not to worry. Ryan said they work with the insurance all of the time and it will all be covered. He also said the job would cost about $5,000 to completely restore. They did not do anything accept pull out some drywall and pullup carpet all in 2 days, not full days. We completed the restore ourselves. I feel like Ryan lied to us straight faced when he got here. We were desperate to get help on a weekend, late at night. He said, "We work with insurance companies all the time, don't worry, it will be taken care of". I told him I did not want to pay a lot of money and he kept telling me not to worry. I told him I had Farmers Insurance and he said, "Yes, we have worked with them as well". This is sickening to us to think how nice he was while lying to our face. How do they get away with this and sleep at night?
