I purchased a car less than a month ago with this company. I ended up recording the transaction when signing the paperwork. I am currently a stage four cancer patient with MD ******** In *******. I am normally a day or two late on my payment because on the days that the payment is due, I am for treatment and it was explained to them that day. My first payment that was made, I couldnt make it on the weekend because mytreatment was on Friday so I made it that following Monday, and they charged me an extra $50 for a late payment that no one told me about. I then had my treatment two weeks later which the payment was due on that Friday and I was hospitalized and couldnt make it in because I was in ************ four hours away to make the payment. By the time that I made it home, I asked that they send me a form to fillout so I can make the payment through my credit card since they needed my authorization. I finally sent in the payment and the signed authorization to take it out from my card and that day they repossessedthe car. During the process of filling out the paperwork for this car, I was told that any mileage that is used can be paid for if I go over their mileage agreement. They stated that I went against the contract in several different ways, but I dont see how acompany can repossess a car within a week due to a health issue that can be proven. Especially when they were working with me and didnt eventell me I was out of contract. There was no communication as to taking the car. They just took it and told me I couldnt get it back and-stole $3200 from me.Business Response

To Whom It May Concern,
Thank you for bringing *** ******* ********** complaint to our attention. We take all concerns seriously and have thoroughly reviewed the situation.
*** ******** leased a vehicle from us with an agreed-upon minimal down payment, and we worked with her to break up the remaining payments. At the time of signing, *** ******** was clearly informed that there is no ***** period for the down payment portion of the contract, and she agreed to these terms. Furthermore, she was advised that a late payment would automatically result in late fees, and the account would be flagged for recovery. She was also made aware that the vehicle could not leave the state without written consent from us, the vehicle's owner.
Unfortunately, *** ******** took the vehicle to ******* without prior written consent, which constitutes a breach of the terms of the contract. Upon recovery of the vehicle, we discovered that an excessive amount of mileage had been added while it was in her possession. This usage also exceeds the mileage limit outlined in the signed contract.
Given these clear breaches of contractfailure to make payments on time, taking the vehicle out of state without consent, and exceeding the mileage limitthere is no basis for a refund or any further accommodation. Our decision is supported by the signed agreement *** ******** entered into, and this serves as the proof of the terms and conditions she agreed to.
We stand by the terms of the contract and consider this matter closed.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Mark ******** *****start="1722" *****end="1725"> ManagerRent2OwnHQ

I purchased a 2012 ***** Tl from Rent2OwnHQ (*********************************************) on Friday, June 13 2025. By Sunday June 15 2025 (2 days later) the tire came off so I call an mechanic that I personally knew and he informed me that my axel was broken and by the look of it a bunch a transmission fluid had already leaked so my transmission may be broken. My brother has a friend who was able to tow the car into my designated parking spot (I was blocking access in/out of my complex for three hours due to this). The following morning I reached out to DJ (our salesman) he informs us that he will order a tow truck to come pick up to car (which they did) in order to do the repairs (free of cost) because he understood damage like this isnt caused in a short period of time. The car was picked up on Monday, June 16 2025 around 12pm ish so I had to take an **** to work (I work somewhat close so I pay around $14 a day to **** going to work) and pay my mother additional gas money (who lives across town) so far its been 3 days meaning Ive lost money in **** fees/gas. He said their repair shops are huge the turn over rate is one day (which I already knew was unlikely because thats unreasonable to assume theyd have all the parts and if they werent working on other vehicles prior to mine) but Id at least assume some sort of communication would be provided considering I have an upcoming payment (for a vehicle I hardly touched) this following week so on Wednesday, June 18 2025 I contacted Rent2OwnHQ to get a rough estimate of when my vehicle would be ready and Titi (I believe thats how its spelled) informed me I would need to submit a fraudulent comprehensive claim because this wasnt caused from theft, vandalism, fire, Animal impact or Natural Disaster (Hail, floods, falling objects) this was caused because THEY sold me a broken vehicle. Selling a defective vehicle that broke down within 48 hours constitutes a breach of the implied warranty of merchantability.Business Response

After leasing a vehicle to the customer for a minimal down payment, they called to complain that the wheel fell off. When we asked how this could have happened, they blamed the car, which is highly unlikely. After a mechanic inspected the vehicle, it was determined they hit a curb or pothole. Given the inclement weather weve had recently, that seems more probable. However, the customer denied hitting a pothole or the curb. They simply claim a wheel flew off. Not only that, but they threatened legal action and stated, We will make sure you never sell another car in *********** again. After carefully considering the incident and the fact that we had to spend $1000 to fix the damage, we decided to refund the customer and never do business with them again.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: Im very pleased to hear Ill be receiving a refund (which is rightfully deserved) but I dont like that this company doesnt ever take accountability for their actions, they continue to point fingers at their victims. Theyre saying this damage is more than likely caused by a pothole or due to hitting a curb and making sure to include the possibility of it being due to the weather but when this happened (June 15 2025 from 12:30pm -4:50pm) it was scorching outside, the only thing wet within that timeframe was from our body from being drenched in sweat (in the photo provided) you can see the sweat on my arm and how bright and sunny it was outside during this time. This company originally tried to say this damage was caused by a pothole but I was informed the only way this couldve been possible within the 48 hours of having the vehicle is if I was repeatedly hitting a pothole at high speed (which is highly unlikely) considering I have images of the car being broken down in the middle of our complex (which is a tight fit, this shows theres no room for this so called high speeds) and the images previously provided of ALL corners of the vehicle indicate no bodily damages. So If I hit a curb (keep in mind how low leveled the 2012 Acura Tl is) this wouldve definitely caused bodily damage and not just cause an Axel being broken off. An actual mechanic wouldnt state that these damages are caused by hitting a curb or pothole knowing the vehicle was only operable FOR LESS THAN 48 hours, theyre just saying anything to save their selves because they dont have any other valid proof to offset the blame on me (the consumer). I would love documentation (and Im requesting for a copy of your mechanics report) that displays this information as well as shows the diagnostics of the damages of the vehicle. This company has denied refunds for people going through my similar situation because they dont think people would seek legal action against them (this is the same reason they mentioned in their contracts that if we took them to court we would need to pay their legal fees as well) in order to initiate fear, and discourage anyone from actually legal action against them. so this company is correct I will be seeking legal action, this company has impacted me financially causing me to lose funds due to transportation, so I would be requesting to be reimbursed for my **** + the gas money Ive been giving my mother to pick me up from work everyday at 12am. They offered me the refund (only after) I submitted the complaint and went through the dispute process because they didnt think I would take time out my day to go through this lengthy process. Lastly, my neighbor has a ring door bell camera that will show me driving under 4mph which makes the precious statements made by the company inaccurate.Regards,

The decision for the refund wasn't because of the complaint. That decision was made prior to the complaint. The complaint just solidified that fact that not every customer we have is a good customer. We will be seeking reimbursement of the repairs that we had to conduct after you had possession of our vehicle.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: Thank you for your reply. However, I must strongly disagree with your version of events and the characterization of me as a bad customer. The vehicle I *********************** on Friday, June 13, 2025, suffered a major mechanical failure within just 48 hours specifically, the wheel detached and the axle was damaged, with clear signs of fluid leaking from the transmission area. This occurred while the vehicle was in my apartment complex, not during high-speed or negligent operation. A certified mechanic reviewed the issue and confirmed that: This kind of damage is the result of long-term mechanical failure and not something that occurs in a short span of time unless due to extreme misuse which was clearly not the case here. There is no visible exterior body damage, which undermines your claims that the damage was due to a curb or pothole. You cited inclement weather as a possible cause, but historical weather records for ZIP code ***** on June 15, 2025 between 12:50 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. show no rainfall, and a high temperature of 96F. Rain occurred after the tow truck removed the vehicle meaning the weather could not have contributed to the damage. If your company knowingly leased a vehicle with a pre-existing mechanical defect (or failed to detect it during inspection), that falls under a breach of the implied warranty of merchantability meaning you are responsible for ensuring the car was in safe, working condition at the time of delivery. The request for me to file a comprehensive insurance claim (which only applies to things like theft, fire, or collision) was inappropriate and would have bordered on insurance fraud if I complied. I refused because I am an honest consumer.Contrary to your statement, the refund was not pre-determined. It only came after multiple conversations, documentation, and submission of complaints to:
The Better Business Bureau
The ****************************************************
The ************************
Had your company intended to refund from the beginning, there would have been no need for me to escalate the issue. I have been contacted by multiple former customers and even ex-employees who experienced similar situations, and who are willing to provide statements about repeated issues with mechanical failures, poor business conduct, and similar dismissive treatment. This is not an isolated event its a pattern. Your claim that you will seek reimbursement from me for repairs is not only baseless, it borders on retaliation. You issued a refund and took the vehicle back. If you believe the vehicle was damaged while in my possession, you need to provide actual evidence of that not speculation or a shift in narrative.
I acted in good faith. I signed the lease, followed protocol, and even attempted to resolve this without escalating. I did not cause the damage to the vehicle, and the evidence Ive submitted including photos, timestamps, and weather data supports that. Your response confirms that instead of acknowledging a defective product, youre attempting to discredit a customer who simply asked to be treated fairly. I stand by my complaint.

Complaint Against Rent2OwnHQ Vehicle Issues, Warranty Neglect, and Unprofessional Conduct On May 9th, 2025, I leased a 2010 ***** Camaro from Rent2OwnHQ in ***********, putting down a $2,000 deposit. Almost immediately, the vehicle began having serious problems: the check engine light and ABS light came on, the car shut off while I was driving, and the tires they had recently replaced popped the very next day.Although the vehicle came with a warranty covering the engine, transmission, and other major parts, the dealership refused to honor it. When I reached out for assistance, I was met with disrespectful and unprofessional behavior. They offered no help, leaving me to pay out of pocket for urgent repairs so I could attend a doctors appointment.Due to the unreliability of the vehicle and the added stress, I made the decision to voluntarily return the car. However, Rent2OwnHQ came and towed the vehicle without contacting me, without having me sign a voluntary surrender form, and without asking for the key even though I was willing to return it properly.Given the dangerous condition of the car, the dealerships refusal to honor the warranty, and their complete lack of professionalism, I am requesting:A full refund of my $2,000 deposit Reimbursement for the mechanical repair costs I incurred I am hopeful for a fair resolution, but prepared to pursue further action if necessary.Business Response

After leasing the vehicle to ******* *******-*****, we were almost immediately met with complaints about the vehicle, even though we had thoroughly serviced it before leasing. We paid for new tires for her because she complained about the old ones, and after that, she still complained about problems. This seems like a classic case of buyer's remorse. In the short amount of time that she had leased the vehicle, she put an excessive number of miles on it. She missed the first payment by four days. As a result, we had to hire a company to locate the vehicle and recover our asset. We sent numerous texts and made many calls to her to request payment, but she complained about issues with the vehicle. It seemed like she preferred complaining to fulfilling her contractual obligations by making the payments. We did everything we could to help her, but when she failed to hold up her end of the bargain, we had no choice but to recover our vehicle. Upon the vehicle returning to the storage facility we found damage on the vehicle as well that she did not disclose to us while it was in her possession. We will be taking the necessary steps to make sure we are compensated for the damage caused by the lesseeInitial Complaint

On Feb 18, 2025 there was a car lease agreement signed by my boyfriend (Breyontae ******) and the Rent to Own HQ at **********************************************. On Feb 11, 2025 the car would not turn on. I called this location and they said that since there was a warranty they would tow the car and diagnose it for free. I told them that if it was not covered I would buy the part and pay for the labor. They proceeded to tow and keep the car, cancel the lease contract on their own, have us trespassed from the property, and made us pay $50 to get our personal belongings out of the vehicle. We have to wait until April 7, 2025 to get our things from the vehicle. All the the payments and the insurance payments were up to date so there was not reason for them to keep the vehicle. We have put $3000 into this vehicle in only 3 short weeks and now we are left with no vehicle, no personal belongings at this time, and now we are out $3000 when we spent all we had on this vehicle. These people are crooks and I can see that they have many claims on the BBB Website. I am wondering why they are still in business and doing this to people if so many claims have been filed. I appreciate your time in this matter and I hope to hear back from you soon!Business Response

We leased a vehicle out to this customer 2/17/24. after helping them with a minimal down payment they asked for an extension on their first payment. Then then drove an excessive amount of miles in a VERY short amount of time. they complained about the vehicle not starting so we got the vehicle towed at our expense. The customer then called the lot screaming at yelling at the lot manager saying he was going to come slap him. He then came up to the lot and got into a physical altercation with him. The next day his whole family came up to the lot to intimate the only office girl working at the time. Then they had sent some very vulgar messages to our sales person.Initial Complaint

Miss ******,
You put a very minimal down payment and we leased you a vehicle regardless. You reached out to us saying the vehicle had issues and we offered to pick up and repair for free, you then decided to keep the vehicle drive all over *******, lying saying the vehicle is not drivable. You gave us your word you would make payments as agreed then when it came time to payment due you lied stating the vehicle is not drivable. We have proof the vehicle was driven after leased. You then stated you would be dropping the insurance and not paying another dime towards this vehicle. As for insurance, you chose to join our CPI program, which we find you cheap liability and you pay us for comprehensive and collision in place of having to have full coverage insurance. You chose this option, we did not. Once you realized you could not steal our vehicle you then decided to cancel the liability insurance thinking you would get the deposit to our program back. You ultimately made the decision to try and steal our vehicle and get away with it. We wish you well and hope you make better financial decisions in the future.

On 10/07/2024 a Representative from the ******************* company ran my debit/credit card without my authorization. I had been speaking with the Representative through text to let him know I would be late on a payment. Instead of waiting for me to contact him to authorize my transaction, he took it up on himself to run my card at his own discretion. This is extremely concerning as my credit card information is being compromised by someone who is supposed to be trusted. I have lost all respect for this company and it's team for allowing employees to run credit cards at their discretion without having authorization. In a world of constant fraud, it's extremely concerning that a corporation at this status would allow it's employees to have access to do so. After texting the employee and questioning him as to why he ran it without authorization, he stated IN TEXT that Corporate must have ran it and he would reverse the charges. This in and of itself is concerning as he's telling *** customers that his corporate office is committing crimes. The employees name at the *************** R2O locations name is ****** ****** and his Manager is **** ****** (That's the names he gave me in text messages) I have screenshots of the illegal transaction from the business along with time stamped text messages from the employee.Business Response

The vehicle was not insured properly and the notes state that we required the customer to get the insurance before picking up the vehicle. The warranty states that the customer is responsible for 50% of labor and parts, but we paid for the repair at our expense. Once doing so, the customer began to ask for wear and tear items to be replaced such as tires. The issue was not the repairs, because the repairs were taken care of by the company 100%, though the contract states the customer is responsible. The issue was the customer not wanting to get the correct insurance on our vehicle before picking up the vehicle.Customer Answer
