The contracted work for my home remodel started July 11, 2022. For eight weeks, the work was completed on schedule and satisfactorily. It was a $110,000 project with payments scheduled at various points throughout the project: A third of the balance due upon commencement of work; a third due after rough-in work completed; approximately 20% of remaining balance due when cabinets were delivered; final payment not due until 5 days after full completion of project, including punch list. On September 16, 2022, the owner asked if I could "do him a favor" and go ahead and pay him a majority of the balance. He said "things were tight." For eight weeks, the owner had exceeded my expectations, was a great communicator, and I did not hesitate to pay him ahead of schedule. I paid him $7,000 of the remaining $8,500 due. Then, he and his crew stopped showing up to work. For the next eight weeks, I continued to call and text him about finishing the job and picking up the large amount of trash and supplies his crews had left when they abandoned the job. During those eight weeks, he or his crew came out only three times: 1). His painters came and finished touch-ups inside the home. 2). His appliance contact finally came to correctly install my dishwasher, and 3). The owner and a crew member came by to pick up the trash; although he left a lot of trash and materials behind. Beginning October 21, 2022, the owner began and continued to give me days his carpenter and painter would be here to complete the unfinished work (redoing incorrectly-installed siding and painting the garage door he installed several weeks prior). He repeatedly failed to show up, pretended he did not know the garage door was to be painted (asked if I wanted to add it to the estimate), and then finally just stopped communicating with me on November 3, 2022. I sent him a termination of contract letter on November 11, 2022 and have had to hire another contractor to correct and finish his work.

I told her on the last complain we come back and do final touch up. We did 4 touch ups after project was completed. I even contracted her after her first complaint and she said she didn't want me to come back.

Worker made a small repair to my kitchen ceiling but used the wrong color paint on it. I have had numerous contacts with the owner by phone and text message where he promised to have someone come by to repaint. It has now been a year and nothing has been done. He is no longer responding to phone or text messages. I even asked for the name of the paint color and where it was purchased so I could get paint and do it myself. This is very disappointing as the company has done a lot of fine work for me, and others I have referred to him, over the past 10 years.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/04/02) */ The unfinished work that **** is referring to was not paid for or contracted, and were considered "extras." Being there was never a signed contract referring to installing can lights and touching up paint, a formal complaint is not applicable. My office has provided the homeowner the brand and color we believe matches which is noted below. The original paint was done 10+ years ago as a faux finish. We also explained to the customer that due to labor and supply shortages, we are not in a position to perform complimentary labor at this time. This company failed to finish the project & did not deliver all the cabinets, but did collect payment. When I finally reached the owner after two weeks, he refused to return and finish the project therefore leaving us with an unfinished kitchen. We had a contract that the owner refused to honor resulting in breach of contract.

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/11/17) */ We started communications over a year ago during her process of her finding someone to do the cabinets. She hired someone to do the laundry room and a hallbath they did a terrible job. There were a lot of red flags after we started the job. Including the police showing up for them not paying another contractor for work done on the house. I gave them a 6k discount prior to starting.he changed all the down payment terms and contract prior to starting. They were making excuses of why they couldn't pay the balance. I went over and beyond my scope of work. I also offered to build some additional pull outs for them. The only thing we had to finish was minor putty and touch up nail holes on shoe molding. Then add the pullout i was giving them for free. They still owed me a balance on the project but didnt won't to pay so we didn't finish the touch up. I believe they owed me 2500.00 they came out really good on that deal. She went to my shop and we gave her the touch up paint. They have a history of ripping people off-from people commenting on her Fb post. They beat you up on the price then give you the run around about paying it's a pattern. They wanted me to do another kitchen for them on a rental and i refused. Consumer Response /* (3000, 13, 2021/11/28) */ This contractor indicated that the police were called to our home regarding a painter that was doing work. This is untrue (and can be verified by the police) & the fact that he's telling lies indicates the low level of professionalism. We did not ask him to do work on our other property. He met us there to pick up a check & offered his services. We did not hire him for that property. Business Response /* (4000, 15, 2021/12/01) */ It is correct that I made a professional decision as a long-standing business owner to not complete the final touch ups that equated to the remaining $2500 on the agreed upon contract for several reasons. 1.The work environment became unsafe and unhealthy for my team members which is my number one concern. Having police show up at a jobsite with a prior contractor that was not paid, subjecting my team to drama is not how I choose to conduct business. When I questioned the customer and asked her why she didn't pay the prior contractor, her response was: "Did you see the work they did, that's why I didn't pay him". That was just one of many red flags I dealt with. 2.The customer was bad mouthing me on a realtor website that we both belong to which is completely unprofessional and led me to believe it was not a healthy environment and best if we part ways. 3.I was being harassed well past business hours by the customer via text messages apologizing for her husband's behavior and her promising me that me and my team would only have to deal with her moving forward. This is not how I operate my business or jeopardize my team's presence at a jobsite. Having had several back-and-forth conversations with the customer, the final agreement that we both came to was I would provide to her at no cost, the lacquer finish to have another contractor finish the job. She even drove to my shop, per our agreement and picked up the lacquer finish that was promised to her. This was agreed upon between both of us to mutually walk away and consider the job complete on my end. I even went as far to turn down another property of hers that she wanted me to work on to prove to her that I did not want to do any more business with her or her husband. Next thing I know, she is filing a complaint with the BBB making it look like I randomly walked away for no reason which is not the case here. My response noted here is true and correct, please accept this as my rebuttal to the accusations made against me, my company and my hardworking team. Consumer Response /* (4200, 17, 2021/12/02) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I have renovated several homes both as a homeowner & a business owner. I have never had to deal with a contractor that has walked off the job in the middle of a project after accepting over $17,000 until this project. I will not allow a contractor to slander me with false information which is what this man is trying to do now. He continues to provide false information without any proof. 1. Again, the police have never responded to an issue at my home. Mr. ********* continues to say this, but provides no evidence. The police department has verified that they have never been to our home for an issue with a contractor. 2. After Mr. ********* left the project unfinished for 2 weeks & stopped responding to our communication, I asked a group of our peers (this is his reference to a realtor website) if anyone knew how to get in contact with Mr. ********* so we could finish the project. 3. The "after hours communication" was initiated by Mr. *********. 4. Again, Mr. ********* was never offered work on our other property. He offered his services, but since he had not completed our first project, we declined and had another contractor install cabinets at that property. 5. We paid an initial deposit in order for this company to begin construction of the cabinets. We made another payment upon delivery of the cabinets (per the contractual agreement). However, Mr. ********* did not deliver all of the cabinets (missing fridge panels & pantry pull out cabinets). In addition, some of the cabinets delivered were incorrectly manufactured (wrong drawer glides installed). He gladly accepted over $17,000 despite not meeting his contractual agreement then proceeded to abandon this project since he had received the majority of his money. I have realized that Mr. ********* is extremely unprofessional and will not be fulfilling the obligations of our contract (which he drafted). My hope is that no one else has to experience the unprofessional and criminal actions of this company.
