  On July 5, 2022, BBB contacted Green Shield Roofs, LLC regarding advertisements on their website https://greenshieldroofs.com.  

  Green Shield Roofs, LLC advertises their services can "Add 5-15 years of life to your roof."

  BBB Code of Advertising states claims relating to the performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy, or results of a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data.  

  BBB requested Green Shield Roofs LLC to substantiate the advertised claims of added years to roofs with their product by providing BBB with recent, competent, and reliable scientific evidence about the product they use.  BBB requested if the claim could not be substantiated to discontinue the advertised claims.  

  Green Shield Roofs LLC also advertises its product as "Echo friendly and safe for people, pets, property and the environment."

  BBB Code of Advertising states advertisers should not make broad, unqualified general environmental benefit claims like "green" or "eco-friendly."  Advertisers must qualify general claims with specific environmental benefits.  Advertisers must possess competent, and reliable evidence (often scientific evidence) to support all environmental benefit claims.  Qualifications for any claim must be clear, conspicuous, and understandable.

  BBB Code of Advertising also states claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy, or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data.  

  BBB requested Green Shield Roofs LLC to substantiate the advertised results by providing evidence from recent, competent and reliable scientific evidence about their product or discontinuing the advertised claims.   BBB also requested Green Shield Roofs LLC to discontinue advertising the term "Echo Friendly" or any term related to "Eco Friendly."

  Lastly, Green Shield Roofs LLC advertises the product they use as a "USDA Certified Biobased Product."

  BBB Code of Advertising states the primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser.  Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast.  Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB.  

  BBB requested Green Shield Roofs LLC to provide substantiation that the product from Greener Shingles was a "USDA Certified Biobased Product."  BBB could not confirm the product, or company name in the USDA BioPreferred catalog located on https://www.biopreferred.gov/BioPreferred/faces/catalog/Catalog.xhtml.

  As of August 8, 2022, Green Shield Roofs LLC did not substantiate the advertisements.
