The owner of this business, *******************, is refusing to release the results of bloodwork which she ran on my dog on Saturday, May 20th, 2023. ***** has given various excuses for why she is refusing to release these results, but none of them matter as she is legally required by law to release all medical records relating to my dog according to ***. Admin. Code ******, which I am attaching to this report.*****'s most recent excuse for not releasing the records is that she did not input the test results into my dog's medical records, because said tests "were not necessary for the care or treatment of {the dog}." If this bloodwork was not necessary for the care and treatment of my dog, ******************* should have never ordered that my dog's blood be drawn. However, because she did and it was, those results are legally a part of my dog's medical record, whether or not ***** properly added them to my dog's record, and I am entitled to receive copies of them. The bloodwork was run after ***** gave my dog Panoquell the day before, which I have since learned is an experimental drug, not fully approved by the **** Notes from the clinic indicate that the blood drawn on May 20th was drawn as a part of a "case study" that ***** is doing. The fact that ***** is working so hard to hide the results of bloodwork related to a case study on an experimental drug makes me very, very concerned about what said blood work reveals. To summarize, blood was drawn on May 20th, 2023. I know for a fact that a CPL ***** was run, which ***** claims came back "normal," but she has not provided proof of such. I also know that two additional tests were run on the same day, using the same blood sample, because her vet tech ********* told me such when I called for the test results. ***** has refused to even disclose what those tests were that she ran on my dog's blood, let alone the results of those two additional tests. I am entitled to the results of all three tests run on May 20th, 2023.

********************** euthanized my cat without permission or my knowledge. My cat had complications from giving birth, so I took her to NB late at night on 3-22-24. The vet had told me to go home for the night as the cats bloodwork looked better than expected and told me that we could pick her up the next day. I missed the vets call while driving home, and, when I returned the call 30 minutes later, I was told that they had performed surgery. I was told that they found her uterus damaged and that she had an infection from the damage. I was then told that *********** knew I would agree with her that it was best to not wake my cat back up and that *********** had euthanized her. Despite the fact that I had signed resuscitation orders, authorized CPR, and had spoken with *********** direct and in person and told her not to euthanize my cat, *********** took it upon herself to euthanize my beloved friend and companion. Death happens, but dying is different than having life taken away against your will. I had had another cat have this same issue years back but was much worse off. My family vet treated her, and she survived and is now happy and healthy. ************ took away my choice on what to do with my cat, took away the option of transferring my cat to my family vet, took away any chance my cat had to get better, and took away an amazing part of my life that can never be replaced.

    NB Animal Urgent Care Response

    04/19/2024

    ****,
I know you are hurting. The simple fact is your kitty was going to die. She could go peacefully by not waking her up from a very painful surgery and trauma that was inflicted many hours prior to her coming to me, OR waking her up and waiting an unknown amount of time for you to call me back. You were NOT driving home when I called you. You had left hours before and it was after midnight when you were called. You told my receptionist that your phone was not working and gave us the number to your elderly mother. Since you or your mother did not answer after calling twice, the decision was made to help your kitty pass peacefully. Your previous kitty did not have the same amount of damage or she would not have lived either. I have done everything to explain and help ease your pain, even refunding the whole amount of $3500 for your invoice. Not because I did anything wrong but because I care deeply about all my clients and patients. You are allowed to have your opinion but I will not allow you to make false alligations against me or my staff after taking extremely compassionate care and very expensive care of your precious kitty in the last several hours of her life. I hope you find peace in the decisions you made for your kitty in her last 24 hours of life. I have full peace knowing the pain and suffering she would have experienced had I woke her up. And if anyone else would not want me to make that same compassionate decision for their own beloved family member in their absence, then my hospital is Not the place for them to come. I will ALWAYS do what I feel is best for my patient which is the oath every veterinarian takes when we are blessed with this as our profession and livelihood.
    Respectfully,
    ***********

PLEASE REPLACE INITIAL RESPONSE FROM NB ANIMAL URGENT CARE WITH THIS ONE...

    ****,
I know you are hurting. The simple fact is your kitty was going to die. She could go peacefully by not waking her up from a painful surgery and trauma that was inflicted many hours prior to her coming to me, OR waking her up and waiting an unknown amount of time for you to call me back. Your kitty was in critical condition on presentation and had to be stabilized prior to surgery.  So you were not driving home when I called you. You had left hours before and it was after midnight when you were called.  You told my receptionist that your phone was not working and gave us the number to your elderly mother. Since you or your mother did not answer after calling twice, the decision was made to prevent further suffering. Your previous kitty did NOT have the same amount of damage or she would not have lived either. I have done everything to explain and help ease your pain, even refunding the whole amount of $3500 for your deposit, which cost me over thousand dollars in the diagnosis, stabilization, and surgery for your kitty. Not because I did anything wrong but because I care deeply about all my clients and patients. You are allowed to have your opinion but I will not allow you to make false allegations against me or my staff after taking extremely compassionate care of your precious kitty in the last several hours of her life. I hope you find peace in the decisions you made for your kitty before bringing her to my hospital. Allowing numerous cats to remain unaltered and have repeated litters of inbred kittens in your home to the point you don't even know when they are pregnant is not ethical. And trying to pull a kitten out of a cats vaginal canal leading to irreparable damage was not something done in my hospital. Why you waited 24 hours to bring your precious kitty in after findings blood the night before was not a decision I made. I have full peace knowing the pain and suffering she would have experienced had I woke her up. I will ALWAYS do what I feel is best for my patient which is the oath every veterinarian takes when we are blessed with this as our profession and livelihood.

    1. A veterinarian shall provide competent veterinary medical care under the terms of a veterinarian- client-patient relationship (VCPR), with compassion and respect for animal welfare and human health.
    2. A veterinarian should first consider the needs of the patient to prevent and relieve disease, suffering, or disability while minimizing pain or fear.
    3. Humane euthanasia of animals is an ethical veterinary procedure.
    4. Veterinarians have an ethical responsibility to provide essential services for animals when necessary to save life or relieve suffering. Such emergency care may be limited to euthanasia to relieve suffering.
