I received a call today from Lake City Credit regarding an alleged debt to US bank due to an unpaid overdraft of a checking account in the amount of $256.59 back in 2005. I told the representative I have been with a different bank for as long as I can remember and had no recollection of the account in question. I then asked for additional information expecting proof of debt and instead was emailed a settlement offer and a document fraudulently stating I had promised to pay $154 by 7/12. I called a branch of US bank here in the nearby area and explained my situation to the representative. She looked in her system using my social security number and could not find any record of me having an account there. I then ran two separate credit checks and had absolutely no record of this, "debt." I called back and spoke to the rep at ********* from earlier and explained to him the information I discovered and how I refuse to pay what was an obvious scam. I would advise anyone to ignore any and all correspondence from these hucksters.

    Sirs,

We have reviewed the complaint and understand that the consumer may have forgotten this bank DDA overdraft loan. US Bank once it places or sells the past due loan will not verify records for consumers due to the fact that the record goes to the collection and archive department. We have carefully looked at this record and can confirm its validity.

We will honor the settlement provided to the consumer by mailing him a letter.

If there are any questions, please contact ************* at *****************.

Lake City Credit claims I owe a ATT/******* bill from 2004, I have told them many times that I still have ATT even after they merged with the same phone number and thus I do not owe a bill to Lake City Credit. I have been a victum of Identity Theft multiple times. Today I received a letter saying they attempted to charge me on 6/10/2024 with a card ending in 2023. I have never given them my banking information or approved them trying to charge any account I have had in the past or present. When they have called I have notified them I do not owe this debt and to not contact me regarding it ever again. Which they have now broken by trying charge a card i do not own and sending me the letter. Trying to reanimate a dead debt that has passed the statue of limitations by illegal and deceptive practices.

4/23/2024 Lake City Credit called my parents at a number that does not belong to me shared information that they were trying to speak to me regarding collecting a debt and left a number. This is a huge violation and inaccurate information. I called Lake City Credit the same day and asked them about the debt and it was for a debt I paid off well over 10 plus years ago. I also checked my credit and have zero collection accounts. This is a complete scam and I want to report it.

    Sirs,

We appreciate the opportunity to improve customer service. The consumer here made clear to our agent to not call a specific number that was previously a main contact for the consumer based on our record. Furthermore, in April of 2019 this same consumer arranged for settlement of the discussed account and did not follow up with payment.

The account has been put in a do not call status and will not be contacted by our company by phone.

    Sincerely,

    Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:

They called a number not registered to my name. But an internet number registered  to my parents who live in *******. They shared also shared confidential information. Claiming to have a collection and they are trying to get a hold of me. That is against the law.

I asked them to send details of this so called claim on an account to the address on file and they refused to. I told them that the collection account they are claiming was settled well before 2015 and to never call my number again.

There are so many complaints against this company about their practices trying to collect on debt that has been paid.

I received a phone call stating they were attempting to recover a debt owed without any documentation supporting this debt. I stated send me information because I have no idea who this person/persons are. I received a letter dated 01/11/2024 with a false accusation stated I promised I would pay by 01/25/224. There was no documentation of the debt I owed. I pulled my credit report and there is no documentation I owe this.

Received a call today from Lake City stating I owed a debt from a bank account I "supposedly" had overdrafted in 2003....yes, 20 years ago!!! Not only did I never have a bank account at that bank, I never had any identity theft issues or credit pulls under my name. I asked for some documentation to be emailed to me just to see what they are seeing, I have not received this yet. Even if this debt was real, which it is not, the statute of limitaitons (for collections) in my state is 6 years...worst case I've seen is 10 years. Obvioously nobody should pay these guys a dime, especially receiving a random call (no letters ever sent via mail), they are a scam, and I am requesting they remove me from their scam list

I received a call from LakeCity Credit., saying that there is a debt outstanding from 12 years ago!I pulled my credit report and there is no such debt. I called them and they would not provide a license number and wanted to transfer me and arrange a call back.

    Business Response

    Date: 07/27/2023

    Sirs,

We have had communication with this consumer and have sent some paperwork. We will place the consumer on our do not call list. If the consumer wishes to discuss the matter with us, we are happy to assist

When I spoke to them they would not answer my questions.  I asked for a license number and was told that he did not have the authority to give me information. They said the debt was from Washington Mutual,  I looked them up they have been closed for year and I can not contact them to confirm a debt. I pulled two separate credit reports and there is no mention of a debt. Initially, I was told the debt was from twelve years ago. I'm not sure if it matters but ************ has a four-year statute of limitations.

I have no way of confirming the debt. My contact information has not change. Also, he mentioned that the debt was on auto payment. I have no memory of the but I have had the same banking accounts since ****. I would like proof of the debt, but they have not provided any. I did receive one letter but it had no proof of the debt.

I keep receiving phone calls from the this "legitimate" debt collector stating I owe money on a credit card company issued by Continental Finance. They are stating that this debt (totaling approx. $700.00) was from 2016 and have called me numerous times in the past couple of weeks. I know this is a scam because my phone automatically blocks their calls and labels them as spam. I only found out that they were a debt collector because I called them back and thats when they told me I owed money. I state to them that on my credit report that it showed a zero balance and I already took care of this bill with another debt collector. They informed me that this was not true and I still owe money. They informed me that a letter was sent to an address beginning with *********************** but I have not lived at that address in over 5 years. This is not a valid debt and this company is trying to scam money out of me. I want them to stop calling me or I will seek legal assistance. They are in violation of several *************************. If this was a valid debt, the ******** statute of limitations on debt is five years for written contracts and credit cards and three years for open accounts and oral contracts. However, this is a paid debt and this company needs to stop calling me immediately.

On February 2023 I received a call from a representative from Lake City Credit saying that I allegedly owe them money. On February 13th they sent me an email with a settlement document to which I responded to them that the representative from Lake Credit City has been misleading and that I don't recognize this debt as mine and asked them to stop communicating to me about this. By the end of March 2023 I received a letter again from Lake City Credit atempting to collect the amount, and until this day they have not provided any proof of any debt for the amount they state. Also in this letter they just provided a PO Box as returning address which in my view makes them just a group of people trying to scam others to get money they don't owe out of people's pockets. I already told them not to contact me for any reason, but they still are sending letters. How can I make them stop?
