Spruce Power is the absolute worst. Their faulty connection of the solar to my electrical box nearly burnt my house down due to using materials that are not up to code and obviously a fire hazard. They refuse to fix this and additionally, almost jeopardized the sale of the home I purchased as their response time is the worst I've ever experienced.Review from Patricia L

It's disgraceful that a broken box cover and a meter that is not attached properly to the house is taking over 6 months to be replaced/fixed. This is just one of many problems i've had dealing with this company. Multiple customer service agents handle one issue as shown by any email threads I have. Long wait times when calling customer service. It's a shame that I do not have a choice as to which company my money goes to each month when I pay the lease. I'm stuck with this company.Review from Jenny W

Their 'asset recovery' team is so clueless. They tell you one thing and make up stories as they go along. I closed on my home in late November 2023. They are trying to bill me for the October 'production' and part of November 2023 production, which clearly should be the previous owner's responsibility. Although the first person i spoke with at Spruce acknowledged this included October 2023 production and part of November 2023 production, they stated i had to be responsible since it wasn't 'due' at the time for the previous owners. Then i asked for the supervisor, and she tried to make up stories as she went to justify this unethical billing practice. We (spruce and I) all agreed the bill should be billing in arrears, meaning it should be billed after the month ends. I'm looking at the bill dated 1/1/24, this $392.80 is for usages up to December 2023 per the description on the bill, meaning this bill includes 3 months of billing from October 2023, November 2023, and December 2023. However, this supervisor had the audacity to claim the bill is for Dec'23, Jan'24 and Feb'24. Excuse me? Today's date is 2/21/24, meaning the month didn't end yet. There should be no bill for February 2024, and this 1/1/24 bill clearly says it's for Dec'23 production. I'm so frustrated with the unethical practices from this company. It's one thing to be wrong and own up to your error, it's another to lie to your customer and make them pay for something they didn't use. All I was trying to do was for them to do the right thing. I reached out to them to see if they can properly pro-rate the bill back to the previous owner, but they refuse and kept lying. Stay away from this solar company at all cost, as you can see from all the other reviews.Review from Pamela S

First of all, if I could provide a negative rating I would, however it's not possible, so 1 start it'll be. My complaint is very similar to those listed. The customer service is the worst I've ever encountered. In fact, I've never been exposed to anything like this. I've spent nearly a year trying to have my account corrected with no results. I one time spoke with a male who put me on hold for an extended time and actually researched my account and found an $89 mistake on Spruce's side. He assured me he'd refer this for further follow-up. I never received any follow-up. I inquired a few days later asking to speak with the specific individual and was told he was no longer an employee. I've experienced unresolved billing problems with Spruce since they took over from Kilowatt Financial, the previous company. I've spoken with more than eleven employees and spent countless hours attempting to clarify. I've been on hold for long lengths, hung up on after being shouted at, disconnected, and been refused to talk with a representative. To suggest these people are rude is an understatement. . I receive three paper bill statements per month, all differing amounts. This month it ranged from $453.16 to 685.49. In addition to the statements, I regularly receive threatening letters stating I'll be reported to the Credit Bureau. I also receive daily collection calls. I'd like to straighten this situation out with Spruce, unfortunately they won't discuss anything other than vocal strong arming in trying to collect funds that I believe we do not owe.Review from Ronald D

I have ****** solar panels through *********. About a year ago or so Spruce Power assumed ownership of this company. In July 2023, they identified a malfunction with the system - it was not generating any power or reporting anything to the electric company. In August, one of their contracted solar repair people came out and identified the issue as a broken invertor. The estimated time to repair was 3 weeks (9/21/23). I shave contacted Spruce numerous times and spoke with a person (Fernando) who identified himself as a manager he agreed to assist me in finding a solution to this problem, he agreed to provide me with weekly updates. He said that there are no invertors due to the infamous 'supply chain issues'. He also indicated that they could get one but it would be using one of their non-contracted vendors (going out of warranty as he identified it). I mentioned that it was ridiculous for me to be paying 85.17 per month for malfunctioning equipment. I have threatened to issue a non=payment command to my bank as I have paid over $1000. to date for equipment that isn't working. I truly believe that Spruce Power is simply milking the monthly payments with absolutely no intention of repairing this equipment. They purchased ********* solely for the purpose of collecting this revenue stream with no commitment to maintaining this leased equipment. To date, we have seen no benefit of having these panels which haven't generated any electricity since mid June 2023. I know the CT ******** ********* ****** is investigating them. I have filed a complaint with the State of NJ. Every review I read of them speaks of the same types of situation. They are deceptive, disingenuous and need to held accountable for not providing the agreed upon maintenance of their leased equipment. They are collecting money under false pretenses. The authorities need to hold them accountable for this malfeasance. Who will do so?? I leave a one-star rating because I can't leave anything less than that.Review from debra C

I concur with the other 44 respondents. I have had the following issues with Spruce Power and would like to see a Class Action Law suit for Northern California customers. My issues: 1) I have auto pay and received paper invoices which stated "you are currently enrolled in autopay and this invoice is for your info only". But I wasn't seeing charges to my credit card. On the 2nd such month I called them to find out the card had renewed and they didn't have the updated expiration. I provided the new info and asked them to clear the bill. They said they wouldn't unless I paid and additional fee. Since I was 2 weeks from my next bill I decided to wait to the next auto pay which would clear all. But it didn't. The rep never entered the info and I continued to get paid invoices. 2) I get a call from Collections. Euphemistically called "***** ********" by Spruce. Using strong arm tactics they demand payment without any supporting detail even after I explained what happened above. It took HOURS on the phone over weeks to resolve completely. 3) Modem repair to their unit to do 5G. The tech was supposed to let me know they'd done work never heard anything. Called Spruce asked if the service had happened took 2 weeks to get a yes answer. 4) But wait, why has my bill been an "estimate", where the estimates are ALWAYS higher than any actual month, for 6 months since the fix? Called and entered per their procedure via email a request for an answer. Said I'd have one within 5 days. I started this 12/5/23 by 1/5/24 I had gotten NO ANSWER. I called and complained AGAIN. 5) A tech shows up and announces himself this time. Turns out the previous repair broke the system. It is now supposed to be fixed. I am waiting to see if my Feb bill will be an actual. Lastly, I asked if over charged by estimates how would it be trued up. Answer very muddy, basically only do that once a year. So if I over paid $25/month for 6 months=$150. They get free $. Banks "played the float" til illegal,Review from Robert D

Worse customer service I’ve encountered in my adult life. I pay my bills early and these knuckleheads continue to bill me over and over again for payments I’ve already made. To contact them and try to speak to someone is a nightmare as well. Endless phone loops, no helpful people whatsoever. I’m going to cut my losses and remove this crap on my roof. I’ll go with a legitimate solar company. These guys are bad news and could care less about taking care of their clients. Buyer BewareReview from Dawn N

Our solar was down from 3/2022 and finally fixed 7/2023. This company expects us to pay solar when the system has been down and not producing for 1 year and 4 months and not giving us a revised Bill. I was paying for my utility bill also. They were estimating my monthly invoice. The inventer and meter was replaced in July , which is needed to prduced. They said they only purchased part of my contract from One Roof, which was missing the warranty part. I signed only one solar contract. They are getting over on people and not taking care of their customer needs. The reason for the solar panels so I don’t have to pay a large UI bill. They are a horrible company and looking for a lawyer that handles these types of contract breach.
