On January 3, Hestia presents proposal with total estimated costs of $197,622.00. A lengthy discussion ensued about timeline – construction needed to be concluded well before October. Hestia indicated that this would not be a problem and that this was a “simple job.” On January 12, the contract was executed. On January 13, I paid a deposit of fifty percent of total estimated costs.

Over the next several months, I had to repeatedly ask Hestia for updates. There was often no response. When I did receive a response, the blame was placed elsewhere. The permitting vendor caused unexpected delays. The engineer was unavailable for several weeks. And so on.

In early May, Hestia indicated that an engineer would visit the following week and engineering drawings would be returned two weeks later. In the meantime, all applications necessary for permitting were to be completed. In late May, an architect visited the property. Hestia described this individual as an engineer several times. I was misled, if not lied to, about who would be visiting the property.

On June 23, I asked Hestia for an update. Hestia provided “engineers notes,” which were recommendations from Hestia's architect to my architect. The notes did not advance this project - we needed the engineering drawings.

On June 28, I told Jesse that I intended to cancel the contract due to nonperformance. Jesse told me that he was not sure what happened with this project but that the lack of progress was “unusual” and “disappointing.” I requested cancellation via email, with a request for Hestia to propose next steps for returning the deposit by COB June 29.

On June 29, Hestia confirmed receipt of my email.

On July 3, I attempted to call Hestia . I told Hestia, via email, that a plan for returning the deposit needs to be in place by COB July 6. I send a text message to Jesse to the same effect.

Hestia simply refuses to engage. Though the next payment deadline is approaching, so perhaps I’ll hear from them soon…

We have not been paid for 2 countertop projects we rushed for Hannah ********* ***** and Melissa *** ***** at Hestia Construction and Design since December. We have yet to be paid to date this March and unfortunately have to take the company to court to collect payment.

We started a kitchen remodel with them in July 2022 (3 months ago) which was supposed to last 6-8 weeks. We contracted in March and were told they would start in May. We had to beg them to start. At this point, we only have a partially dry walled kitchen and little indication it will be completed. We have paid 85% of the project (48k). We also paid subs direct 25k for out of scope projects, however, despite asking, we don’t have a receipt for those projects. Weeks go by without work, and when asked they often don’t respond or promise to let us know tomorrow and then don’t respond the next day. There are no explanations why no one is not showing up. Yesterday, we had a subcontractor ring the doorbell and tell us Hestia won’t answer their calls or pay them for the work they completed on our house. I have their name and number. We paid for a designer and the designer showed up twice but then won’t call or answer any texts. We paid for a project manager that is not responding to us nor hasn’t showed up to our house in weeks. We paid for plumbers who left us with a leak and weren’t able to make it back for 3 days. We are left with two water stained walls with no guarantee they will be fixed. We have two holes in our walls to the outside with no guarantee or timeline when they will be fixed. Lastly, I called 4-5 numbers this week and was met with full voicemails and one answer with a promise to have our project manager give us a reasonable schedule by yesterday. Our project manager didn’t respond to my text asking for an update yesterday. I have no indication this project in my home that I am living in will ever be finished.

We contacted, interviewed, selected, and paid 50% down to Hestia for the remodel of our two upstairs bathrooms in October of 2021. They were the most expensive of the three highly-rated vendors we short-listed, but Hestia promised excellent oversight of the project with a dedicated project manager. Our Hestia contract estimated 6-8 weeks from demolition to completion pending supply chain issues. In Nov/Dec we approved cabinets and shower design. I made all of my material selections at the end of December.

There were supply chain issues getting the right tile as well as ordering issues (ex: they ordered a tub with a right drain although the selection sheet clearly stated a left drain.) There were also issues because Hestia did not start ordering anything until March, so several of my selections were not available causing me to have to re-select.

Our original Project Manager (PM) was replaced before we even met her. The new PM came out to do a walkthrough and assured us they would wait to demo until he had done an inventory and all materials were there to ensure a quick completion. Within two weeks, he was replaced with a third PM who said she had a demo crew available. Both upstairs bathrooms were totally demoed (and inoperable) at the end of May. Then that PM left and we were told the new policy was not to have a PM at all. I have raised and documented the issues with that.

My family has been sharing one tiny 3/4 bath for 5 months now and we are at one year of first contact and we still can't use our upstairs bathrooms. Their subcontractors have been slow and have not addressed problems of poor workmanship. I created a punch list myself as I kept explaining what was wrong ** *** *************** *** *** *** ***** ******* ***** Hestia has never shared a workplan or timeline despite multiple requests. At 22 weeks since demo, I don't know the timeline and have a two page, single space punch list of issues that need to be completed.

We signed a proposal which is their version of what they will provide for your project on 2/25/22. It was for a kitchen remodel and the cost was $75,485.89. They sent us a client expectation document that states we would be assigned Execution Engineer after the onboarding process was complete. This has never happened. We have never been given a project schedule and usually never know who will be doing what phase of the project. Their employees often hire subs that don’t know what they are doing. My husband had to redo a lot of the electrician’s work. The first framer did a good job but told us he wasn’t getting paid which seems to be the way they operate and is why they can’t keep any employees. They don’t have anyone except one employee who I think they call a Client Advocate who notifies us weekly what will happen in the coming week. Very few of the things she says will happen ever happen. From the start they said they would not start the project until all items were onsite. However, they started it before we had our window, door and cabinets. We got our cabinets on 9/6/22 and some are missing. I paid extra to have a rendering done of the kitchen layout which includes the blue prints but their employees show up with the wrong plan We started on this project 6/16/22 and it is now almost October. During this time, they have only worked approximately 100 hours in 100 days. The plumbing is roughed in and the framing needs to be corrected so the cabinets will fit. No one has been here this week and last week someone worked part of one day. The newest contractor they assigned is not answering calls or emails. We were hopeful when he was assigned as he had a crew and said he would have a small kitchen like ours done in no time. I have emailed the owner Hannah numerous times and I have never got a response. Since we have paid them a large amount of money to date, I need them to finish the project.

      Hello Mr. and Mrs. *****,

We are in receipt of your complaint and are working diligently to remedy as quickly as possible. Please confirm that you spoke with Chris, the Construction Manager, last week to discuss the plan forward and the steps that will be taken to expedite the project schedule, as well as transfer the cabinets that the vendor mistakenly delivered to the incorrect project address to your job site.

      Thank you.
