On February 22, 2024 I received a solicited phone call from Smart Home Remodeling Company that they will be in my area giving free estimate on home repairs. I am a 82 year old man who is blind and disabled. Smart Home Remodeling Company came out on Friday, February 23, at 11:00 to give the estimate on the home repairs that I needed. Man and Woman arrived at my home promoting their walk in shower and roofing. However I only needed my rotten wood and paint job for the eves of my house. Due to being disable and blind I had my grandson show them what I wanted to be repaired. (My grandson filled in the place of his father.) We schedule a next appointment for Friday, March 1, 2024 so that my son could actually approved of the repairs that were needed. My son meet with Ruben and they did another walk through to make sure that I was getting the repairs that I wanted. After Ruben and my son came back inside from reviewing the repairs that I wanted, we were headed towards the contract. However, Ruben still wanted to do the walk in shower. I expressed to Ruben that I didn’t want to discuss the walk in shower because I had no interest in this type of repair. Ruben started to work on the contract for us to sign and talked us through what was in the contract. For my home repair, the price came to $2082. Ruben explained in order to start the repairs he would need $200. I went to retrieve the $200 and paid using Ruben credit card machine. After paying I signed the contract and my son sign as well as my witness. My son and Ruben also took picture because “Ruben wanted to keep integrity due to the fact I am blind and disabled. Tuesday, March 5, 2024 they start the repair work. They worked from 9:45 am to about 6:00 pm. Friday, March 8, 2024 Smart Home Remodeling Company inspector came to approved the finished work but because I am blind and disabled I couldn’t show him the work. I was waiting on my son to come to show him but he could wait any longer because he had other work to complete. Then I asked him if he can come back on Saturday, March 9, 2024. (They don’t work on weekends.) The next meeting was scheduled with Ben for Tuesday, March 12,2024 at 4:15pm. Although our meeting was for 4:15 Ben came at 4pm. (My granddaughter was present for this meeting.) Ben and my granddaughter did a final inspection so he could receive the remaining balance of $1882. Ben asked for a check for the remaining balance, however I was told by Ruben that I could pay with my credit card. (During our first meeting with Ruben I paid with a credit card using his credit card machine) This upset Ben causing him to say “Ruben doesn’t have a credit card machine.” Ben said he was going to call the office because he didn’t have the a credit card authorization form. Ben then went outside for 15 minutes and came back with folder of papers. Ben, my granddaughter and I printed out paper that includes the credit card form and Texas Remodel Group “Notice to Homeowner.” Ben took pictures and forward to the office. The next day Wednesday, March 13, 2024 I checked my amount and discovered that I had been charged another $200. Which I dispute with my bank because I already paid $200 to Ruben on March 1,2024. My granddaughter called Smart Home Remodeling Company to inform that they charged them an extra $200 that I already paid on the 1st. I received a phone from Ben saying “why was I tripping out over the $200 and it would be refunded.”
