I hired James D****** of Carports Unlimitied of Texas on June 30, 2022 to build a 22' X 22' carport attached to existing shop. This also included at 11' X 55" cover on the West side of same attached shop. The job was bid at $17,225, I paid Mr. D****** a down payment of $8,600 to get started. He said the job would take 4 to 5 days, the job started off very slow, employees would show up with limited material and would not start until 11 AM during the heat of Summer. The contract included insulating the entire project, the original crew tried to insulate but the quality was terrible, I have photos. I notified Mr. D****** that I would not accept this work. He told me he would send an "insulation guy" but in reality, was a different company. This was on August 8, they had to remove the panels and insulation the first crew installed because the work was so bad it could not be salvaged. The new company did a great job and the new what they were doing but Mr. D****** was only going to pay them for one day, and they would not have finished. He claimed that crew was only to put on insulation, but Mr. D****** should have enough knowledge to know that you cannot put on insulation and not the metal in succession otherwise you have nothing to stand on. I paid the second crew to come back the next day (August 9) of my own expense because I was desperate to finish and tired of being so stressed on the project $1,300 labor and material. While the second crew was putting on the roof and insulation, the original crew was still trying to finish their original work scope such as trim and gutters. On August 11, two of Mr. D******'s crew came to finish the remaining trim and gutters. Mr. D****** said that they would finish so I gave them a check for the remaining balance of $8,625. They did not finish, and I have texted Mr. D****** several times since then and he keeps claiming they will finish. He will no longer answer any calls unless I call from a different number.
