      I am writing to provide documentation for a complaint I am filing against Brinks Home, in an attempt to cancel my service contract.My customer number is *********. I have never signed a contract with Brinks Home directly (I was a customer for several years with a service they at some point purchased).In February 2022 after a terrible customer service experience where my alarm falsely alerted the police to our house twice and I was unable to contact a live representative from Brinks Home for more than 48 hours, I was offered a rate reduction to stay with Brinks as a customer by an account manager named ***. At no point in that phone conversation did he discuss a contract extension, nor did I verbally accept or sign any documentation agreeing to a contract extension. I strongly encourage Brinks to pull up those phone record conversations (I was told today by a customer service agent that they are kept on file), as I am entirely sure that no mention of a contract extension was made or accepted. I have also never given written acceptance of any contract extension.I did receive an email on Feb 2, 2023, in which all information for the contract appears blank because the font is the same color as the background and is thus unreadable. When I contacted Brinks to cancel my account, I was told that I had accepted a contract extension with that rate reduction, and that I will have to pay an exorbitant fee (over $1000) to buy out my contract and cancel my service.I have asked for a copy of any original binding contract I have with Brinks and have not received it.

      I had a Brinks Security System installed at my private residence in August 2021. It was sold to me by Alarm.com. By 2023, the Doorbell Ring Camera malfunctioned. Sometimes my husband and I received a notice, sometimes we did not. Sometimes one of us did and the other did not. When I contacted Brinks tech service, they went thru a couple of troubleshooting steps but it didn't help. They then said they would reset it. It still didn't work. They said it would need to be replaced, which would be at my expense (product plus service). We ended up just leaving it, but began shopping around for a new service. On March 27, 2024, I was working from home when the panel suddenly sounded its alarm. I do not know the decibel level of this panel, but it was piercing and would not stop despite the touchscreen and unplugging it. It eventually shut off, but by then it had damaged my hearing. Both my eardrums broke and I suffered severe hearing damage for about 18 hours, after which my hearing came back only partially. I also have severe ringing and pain. Because of the trauma, I am not likely to ever see any hearing improvement. It has now been three weeks and I still have a lot of ear pain and diminished hearing. I contacted Brinks to tell them what happened. They literally did not care and told me there was no way to turn down the alarm volume. After that, the panel did not work, either. The screen remained frozen. I texted with a tech about fixing the panel's issue of no longer communicating with the system, but it was not resolved. Like the doorbell, I knew I would be asked to replace it. At that point, I was fearful it could malfunction again and I would suffer more damage. Called today to cancel my service. They canceled it but insist I need to pay for another four months anyway. I would think that after causing me hearing loss and two of the four devices they installed malfunctioning, they would let me out of the contract. Apparently that is not how Brinks operates. Horrible.
