      My niece banks with Member Credit Union. I am the co-signer on her loan through ******. She went to MCU yesterday to refinance her car loan. That is not what they processed for her. They instead acquired her loan from ******, approved her for a lower interest rate, and essentially convinced her to sign it anyway, basically falsely stating that this was a refinance, not a loan acquirement. Then - my nieces auto loan thru MCU (which doesnt have all of the signatures needed to process bc I have to sign off on it as well and I have not signed) is already showing up on my nieces moms and great grandmothers MCU accounts. Their accounts are not linked. There is no reason that should have happened. Whatever **** L did at the ******** branch was lacking integrity and sheer experience with refinancing. After inquiring several times about the loan terms and why her payment wouldnt be getting any lower, they convinced her to sign the documents. It wasnt until she brought me my paperwork to sign that I realized what happened.She is 23 and just starting out and this banking institution took complete advantage of her.

      I deposited a check that was completely verifiable. The check was from ***** Fargo via western union. It said when I deposited it it would be available not later that 1 to 2 days. The day after I deposited it I noticed it was in my ledger but unavailable in my balance. So I called to ask why. I was told they would ask for it to be expedited because it was on a 7 day hold and a manager would call. I called ***** fargo and verified the check my self very quickly. I feel like they did this to me out of pure laziness. She said a manager would call the next day Wednesday.no one ever called. I called back Friday because no one ever called and I also received a 30 dollar returned check fee. They sent back a check even though I have plenty of money to cover the check. They are just holding it hostage for some reason. So now I have a 125 late fee for my rent. and a 30 dollar returned check fee. All because they want to hold my money hostage. I could have cashed this check at gas station with less trouble. They refused to stop the process and let me cash it somewhere else. They also refused to waive my late fee. I was also promised a call back for today Saturday. 4pm still no call

      Tymantha Beaver opened her Membership Account with ********************** located at ******************************************************************************** on 06/20/2023.  **************** was eligible for membership based upon her residence in ******* County.

      On 09/11/2023, **************** made a deposit in the amount of $585.00 into her account.  The deposit was made as a mobile deposit.  A review of the deposit noted that the item was a western union check drawn on ***** Fargo.  ***** Fargo will only verify if a customer has an active account based upon the account number.  ***** Fargo will not verify if the check will clear based upon funds.   A five-business day Hold was placed on the deposit, due to her account being opened less than ************************************************ the transaction history, and the fact that the type of item deposited, falls into a red flag category for potential fraud.  The Hold was automatically released on 09/19/2023.

      There was one fee in the amount of $30.00 which Members CU refunded to **************** 10/02/2023.

      The item which caused the *** return fee was a Venmo transaction in the amount of $100.00 which shows to be to an individual.  In the original complaint filed by ****************,a late fee and a $30.00 return check fee were mentioned.  We do not locate any additional fees on the account or where ******************** CU returned a check for her rent.

      Members Credit Union will be more than willing to discuss with ****************, any fees that she incurred due to the Hold being placed on her deposit.

      I am rejecting this response because: most of their statements were false. It was a 7 day hold not five. If you count the days 11th to the 19th it was actually 8 days. They refused to refund the 30 dollar fee when I called multiple times. They did not refund until I filed this complaint. They promised a manager would call me within 24 hours on 3 different occasions. No manager has called me to this day. The check was verifiable by phone just not online. I called and verified it myself by phone so I am not sure how they came up with that whole false hood. If I hadn't filethis complaint they would have kept my money. All these false statements means they still have poor customer service. I find it ridiculous they are willing to speak to me now after I called them multiple times with no response. My social security checks direct deposit into this account which would have taken care of any bad check if there were any chance of it being fraudulent. They are just making excuses for poor business ethics. Not sure why they think it matters what kind of check they returned. It was still poor judgment  to do so. Next time just apologize instead of making up false hoods to save face.
