Do not trust this company. I bought a home from Clayton in Moncks Corner South Carolina. It took 8 months to get the home complete. They asked me to lay the house site out. They called me to run back and forth from the lot to do their work. They were wrong about my lot size and clearing that cost me extra money. Now all the subfloor is bad and the joist are high. This home is only a couple months old. While we were building the area the manger called me out to meet with them. When I got upset the manger, Mark, tried to fight me. He was in my face chest to chest because I was honest about his failor. Then the project manger sent me an email the next day saying we would only talk via email. When a company cannot face their own failures and result to physical threats is crazy. My home is a mess. Factory guys came out and did more damage then anything. So frustrating to be blamed forth job they did.

Misled by Clayton Homes of Roxboro – Would Not Have Bought If I Knew the Truth
I’m extremely disappointed with Clayton Homes of Roxboro due to their dishonesty during the home-buying process. Before closing, I specifically asked if the lot next to my home was going to be developed. I was clearly told no, that they were not building on the property.
Yet just one week after closing, they began telling others that they had purchased the lot. Now, just a few months later, they’re surveying it to prepare for new construction.
Even though they may not be legally obligated to share their construction or business plans, they should not be allowed to lie in order to make a sale. This was a deliberate misrepresentation, and it feels like I was told what I wanted to hear just to get me to sign.
Had I known the truth, I never would have purchased this home. If you’re considering doing business with Clayton Homes of Roxboro, I strongly advise asking the hard questions and getting everything in writing. My experience has been frustrating, disappointing, and frankly, dishonest

We're sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with the land you decided to purchase for your home. There is no contractual obligation between the retailer and a customer, or a landowner and a customer of our retailer, to dictate what is built on residential properties.

Singularly the worst purchase of my life! When I first moved in I instantly noticed just how cheaply made it was! I did reach out about many issues and was told, "it's just normal wear and tear", after only 5 to 6 months!
      1. They failed the first inspection and lied about it. I found out afterwards that the water pipes failed.
      2. A door handle fell off in my hand.
      3. An entire outlet came out of the wall.
      4. Cabinet doors aren't level.
      5. Cabinet veneers are peeling off.
      6. There was paint splatter on ALL surfaces.
      7. There was gops of plaster on multiple surfaces.
      8. The crown molding has large gaps between boards.
      9. They use cheap particle board in wet zones.
      10. I found exposed nails.
      11. The master floor creaks terribly and dips have appeared. They attempted to fix. It did not fix the problem.
      12. The home has a major moisture problem.
      13. The stove vent is holding massive amounts of condensation that began to pool on the stove top.
      14. Bugs easily came down the stove vent, as well.
      15. The plugs in both tubs would not hold water.
      16. The skirting was poorly installed with huge slits made for small pipes. It looks ghastly.
      17. The septic tank is not fully covered with one corner exposed.
Honestly, there is so much wrong and I don't have enough space to list it all. They make cheaply built homes and then they hire the cheapest subcontractors they can.
I hate EVERYTHING about this "home." Individual locations always have an excellent review rate because they guilt their buyers into leaving one. They include your review into your sales reps performance review, so if you give a bad review, it gives them a poor evaluation.

Stay Away from Clayton Homes – Worst Decision We’ve Ever Made
If I could give zero stars, I would. We purchased a 2024 model home from Clayton Homes, and we haven’t even had it for a full year — yet this place is already falling apart.
We found black mold growing underneath the light switches in our master bathroom, which is a serious health hazard. It should never, under any circumstances, exist in a new home. But somehow, here we are. The drywall is bowing, the trim is literally falling off, and it’s beyond clear that this house was thrown together by incompetent contractors with absolutely no attention to quality or care for the houses they put together.
Our guest bathroom had a major issue where water leaked through the walls and out the bottom of the trim from behind the shower every time we turned the shower on. After multiple calls, someone came to fix it — only to crack our tub in the process and then try to claim the damage was already there. That’s not just negligence, that’s dishonesty.
We are so tired of constantly having to call people out to fix things that should’ve been done right the first time. It feels like every week it’s something new — like we’re living in a project that’s still under construction, not a finished home.
This is supposed to be a brand-new house, but it’s built so poorly it feels like it’s already falling apart. Clayton Homes clearly hires the cheapest labor they can find, cuts corners at every step, and has no real interest in quality control or customer satisfaction. Once they’ve got your money, you’re on your own.
If you’re considering buying from Clayton, don’t. Learn from our mistake. This company does not build homes, they build overpriced headaches. DO NOT buy a home from Clayton. You deserve better.

My husband and I began working with Clayton Homes of Winston-Salem in November 2021 to purchase our new home and closed in April 2022. The early part of the process involved securing financing and having our property perc tested by the county—something that took longer than expected. Once those hurdles were cleared, our sales representative promptly began gathering quotes for delivery, setup, septic, porches, and other essential work.
Construction began shortly after closing, with footers started on Mother’s Day 2022, and by July we were moving in. Like many new homeowners, we encountered a range of service-related issues after move-in, but each one was addressed and resolved to our satisfaction. We were especially grateful for the one-year manufacturer’s warranty and the extended warranty we purchased, which recently helped us address a furnace/condenser defect.
In full transparency, I began working with Clayton Homes of Winston-Salem as a contractor from September 2022 through January 2023, and was later hired as an employee from January 2023 through July 2024. That said, my homebuying experience began well before I had any professional connection with the company. Even after becoming part of the team, I approached service requests as any homeowner would—and I can honestly say that the commitment to resolving issues and supporting customers remained consistent and sincere throughout.
Overall, my husband and I are pleased with our home and appreciative of the professionalism and support we received—from beginning the purchase to long after move-in.

Paper Thin Linoleum floor covering in whole home
      We purchased a NEW 2022 Clayton Boone 28' x 56' Model CEJ28564AH home/land package from a local builder in August 2022.
We had many warranty items in our first year and past.
Most recently I became concerned with many nail pops in our flooring throughout rooms in our home.
I have learned through the local Summerville, SC dealer whom the home was purchased from and from Clayton that this is only warranted for 1 year.
I have sent a complaint that the decision to use this option of flooring is a very poor choice. When purchasing a new home; the new owner does not anticipate replacing flooring for quite some years.
I have asked for them to share their manufacturing discount with a local floor covering company to help us cover these unexpected costs.
There are many other places in our home this is happening.
Here is our response from Clayton-

Thank you for your patience, ***** Sangaree sold the home to RAD Builders who then sold it to you. Sangaree has performed service on this home several times. Clayton paid Sangaree to go back and redo the marriage line trim after the home was out of warranty.
The factory would not be addressing any issues with this home.
You can reach out to the state and have a state inspection performed or contact a local contractor to take care of any issues you are currently having with the home.

This home is over two years out of warranty with the factory. Unfortunately, we do not offer flooring options at this facility and are not aware of any local flooring discounts in that area. The flooring currently in the home is the standard option installed in every home here and was present at the time of purchase. Additionally, as the customer is the second owner, the factory will not be addressing any issues with this home at this time. The customer may reach out to the state to request an inspection or contact a local contractor to address any current concerns with the home.

Hello to whom it may concern. My fiance and I are purchasing a Mobil home from Clayton homes of Asheboro N.C. First of all they have you sign all kinds of mess to protect them and screw you so hire you a lawyer when purchasing don't just go through there's. With that being said we've had a lot of problems with them upon first moving in. Door frames falling of hinges, problems with AC, the house is literally splitting apart brick splitting and roof and we haven't even been in it for a year it's just bad construction all around. Very slick talking salesman but still dealing with problems almost a year out. I feel they're passifiring until outside year warranty honestly. Beware do not buy from Clayton Homes of North Carolina.

The sales experience was great and ****** was great. Since then has been ***** Warranty and problems after the fact do not get completed with craftmanship. Everything gets pushed to the manufacturer which the problems did not happen with them. Problems are Clayton and their house moving company.

I am not overall satisfied with the experience I had with Clayton Homes. The sales portion was fine but when it came to being updated on issues, they lack in being responsive. I must constantly depend on the salesperson to reach out to the project coordinator to get her to follow up with me. Specifically, after I moved in, I was informed the steps on the back side of my home were placed over the property line. This impedes me putting a fence around my home on that side. As soon as I learned of the error in construction, I reached out to Clayton homes. It has been such a struggle to get a timely response for a resolve after constant follow-up. I was so frustrated at the situation, I contacted the manager who explained that my expectation for responses wasn’t managed properly. He explained that the project coordinator is only responsible for following up once weekly. So, if you have an issue, they are only liable to give you a follow-up or response once a week. I’m finding it difficult to give them one star. I was told by the manager of the park lot that they should fix the issue and that they can lengthen the landing and put the steps on the side. Their resolve is to shorten my landing, which would cause issues with my door. I hardly think I should be the one who gets the short end of the stick (or landing) since I was not responsible for the construction that was incorrectly done. I guess I should have read more reviews before I committed to this process. Hardly work my blood pressure being raised.

We purchased our home July 2020 it wasn't delivered til December 2020. We wasn't able to move in till February 2021. We we moved in none of the doors in the home will stay open. The floor creeks everywhere. There was literally walmart bags under our carpets that you could hear crinkle when we walked on it. Also had peices of trim under our carpets and the congrolium. The marriage line of the house the sparkle was two different colors. The spackle in the master bathroom is 2 different colors. The back of the house stays about 5 degrees hotter or more than the rest of the house. The trim will not stay up in certain parts of the house. The shut off water valve literally exploded off water was past our ankles in seconds. Water was completely through the house before we could get the water shut off at midnight. The HVAC Unit has been NOTHING BUT trouble it leaks so bad 3 walls in the house are destroyed and so is the floors. The carpet has no padding under it at the marriage line and it sinks down 2inches lower than the rest of the carpet all the way thru the house. Not to mention the carpet staples cut you. We were told the only way we could get anything fixed was if we would go on and give them a 5 star rating or nothing would be fixed. Also they ordered the wrong house and when we told them they said your stuck with this one. Ours was supposed to have a pitch and it don't plumbing was not correct I could go on but I'm out of space. BTW IT WAS ****** at Freedom homes in Beaver,WV that bribed us. They also busted our n neighbors sewage pipes we had to pay to be fixed, in the middle of winter. They left pallets and cinder blocks everywhere on our property and said it was our responsibility to clean that up. The man came and cut the congrolium in the middle of our kitchen floor to get out trash from under it and them tried to glue it down. That is now coming up. DO NOT BUY CLAYTON HOMES BUYERS BEWARE THEY ARE A COMPLETE MONRY PIT AND THE COMPANY DONT CARE

Hi ********** thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear about your experience. The home was serviced on multiple occasions by the retailer and once by the factory, with the work signed off by the customer. We have not received any further contact from you after the factory visit. The home is now nearly five years out of warranty, and any items mentioned would have been addressed during the warranty period.
