I was told at that time of my cleaning that all cost was going to go through Tricare Prime remote. I had no notification of any cost out of my pocket at the time of my cleaning. Just a short time later I was given a bill for $100.00. This bill was debited against my account on 4 October 2023. A few months later I was billed for an additional $130.00. I debated accepting that bill because the average cost of a cleaning in Knoxville, TN, according to **********, is $100 to $200 dollars and now my combined out of pocket will be $230.00. The payment for this bill was debited abainst my account on 29 February 2024
The total is now $230.00 and is on top of what Tricare Prime Remote paid. If you aren’t familiar with Tricare Prime remote, it is one of the best insurances available and is for us active military members that are stationed away from a military hospital. I was so disappointed with this billing that I canceled my next cleaning appointment that was scheduled for 28 February 2024. (To give a comparison, my next cleaning cost me zero and repairing a chipped tooth was less than $200.00 out of pocket)
Around Halloween 2024 I started to receive phone calls from Dental Works Turkey Creek that I continued to ignore. The beginning of 2025 I received a letter of collection from Transworld Systems Inc. that informed me that Dental Works of Turkey Creek was sending me to collection for $273.36. This collection would bring my grand total for cleaning my teeth to $503.36. Not only is this more than twice the average, but the billing is over 12 months past the service I received.
This debt collection attempt is illegal and in complete violation of the Tennessee “No Suprises Act”. This debt needs to be removed from any system of record to include any credit repositories, dept collection companies, ETC.

My family dentist retired so we needed a new place to get our teeth cleaned and looked at. I went to Dental Works in Turkey Creek on 9/3/2024 in order to get my teeth cleaned and checked. The normal routine most people get 2x a year. I wanted the standard process that is 100% covered by my dental insurance. They said that would be fine and we got everything scheduled and setup so I'd be ready to come in on 9/3. When I got there, instead of the normal 45-60 minutes it takes they took 2.5 hours in order to do everything with most of the time spent on them taking all sorts of x-rays. They never once told me that some of these x-rays wouldn't be covered by my insurance, they never let me know if any of them were optional, they simply took all of the x-rays like it was their standard practice. A few weeks after my visit I then received a bill for $97. My insurance said they won't pay for some of the x-rays as a full mouth panel is only covered once every 3 years and it hadn't been at least 3 years since the last time I got them. Dental Works then passed this charge onto me. When we called them up to discuss, they admitted that they didn't get any sort of pre-approval from my insurance and never checked to make sure that these x-rays would actually by paid for by my insurance. Instead, they just took whatever x-rays they wanted to and passed the bill onto me. This is completely deceitful and either they should have never had these extra x-rays taken in the first place or at a minimum they should have told me that they might not be covered so that I could tell them I didn't want them. It isn't ethical business practice at all to trick someone into getting an unnecessary, uncovered procedure and then passing the bill onto them.

Looking at their past BBB complaints, it looks like my issue is basically a repeat of an issue someone said they had on May 2, 2022 where Dental Works took x-rays that weren't covered and then sent them a surprise bill for them.

My son has had a pallet expander and partial braces 6 or 7 years ago started by a orthodontist at this location. When he was done with that treatment 2 years later he got full braces. Which was started by one orthodontist and then another stepped in. When his treatment was completed he was given retainers that were thin and flimsy compared to the retainers both me and my daughter received at the same location. The bottom retainer broke. When I was told I called them. They brought my son in for an appointment. They wanted me to pay for another treatment in aligners. They said they would speak with a Manger and called back that day or the next. That's been over a month ago. I've reached out to be told I would be called the next day and never gotten a call back. I've tried to call again today to not get past their foreign answering service which is a nightmare for those of us who are hard of hearing. I want them to make this right. Communicate better. Either refund what I paid for the initial treatment since their faulty products have caused need for another treatment or provid the service and new better retainers made with them covering costs.

I was a patient at Dental Works at ******** ****** My last visit was in 4/12/2017. I had MetLife dental insurance at that time. I have continued to receive a bill from this office off and on since 2017. I have called this office repeatedly over the years to find out why I'm getting billed when my insurance paid for the visit. When a person actually answers the phone, I've been told all sorts of things from they do not know, that an office manager will look into it, that I don't owe any money, etc, etc. Yet no one has ever called me back. I've contacted Met Life and was told that the last claim filed by Dental Works was paid in full. I have asked this office for contact information for the main Dental Works office and was told they didn't have any contact information for the main office, a claim I find dubious. I've even been to this office in person to try to resolve this but am always told someone will contact me but no one ever does. These bills are harassment at this point. I do not understand why this office cannot resolve this. If I owed this money, I'm sure it would have been referred to a collection agency after 6 years! The account number on the bill is ***** and the amount owed is $349.00.

After reviewing patient account I am adjusting the remaining balance of $349.00 off of the patient's account. Patient now has a zero balance. I called patient on 2/13/2023 and left message.
