My cat was fixed on 10/27/2022 at this vet hospital. She came home in bad shape and this was the email I sent them after calling them to complain. “Attached are pictures of her stitching and her bruising on her leg. She has not touched it at all and purely been laying down. I do not feel comfortable bringing her in so I am sending the photos. I paid $200 so that her surgery would be done well rather than taking her to a clinic that does it very cheap since I care for her well-being and health. This is the worst stitching job I have seen on any pet I have every taken to get fixed. I am trying not to come across as rude in any way I am just so upset about the care my cat has received which I hope you all can understand and rectify.” After days of going back and forth they told me unless she needed surgery from someone else to fix their mistakes I would not receive a refund. I had to take her to another vet to get antibiotics since it became very infected when she had not touched it and been wearing a cone. She has barely eaten barely slept and been in lots of pain from them bruising her leg very severely.

I do not believe in revenge or getting even, because " An eye for and eye makes the whole world blind." However, my 5-month-old English Bulldog Puppy named **** **** lost his eye, while on their care. He had cherry eye and I had MS operate on his eye to fix it. They were supposed to do the same procedure they did on my female but instead they removed his tear gland. This surgery left **** with extremely foul-smelling drainage, and I was very worried about him. I was very worried because his neck was drenched in this putrid drainage. **** slept most of the time as he was drugged up and the only time, he wasn’t crated was to eat, toilet, or on our laps. He was totally isolated from my other dogs and kids. Sadly though, he did not improve so I took him back to the vet on Saturday. The vet was visibly worried but told me to keep him safe and to return on Monday if he didn’t improve. It was a terrible weekend. Monday arrived and I took him in. This time though I had my pup taken from my lap in the waiting area of the office. This was not an ordinary thing at all, but after a few minutes he brought him back. He said the eye didn't look good and to bring him back Friday if he didn't improve. I looked at his cloudy eye and back at the man and politely asked to see the vet. I was directed outside to the car port where he waited. He said that he was sorry, he didn’t know what happened but said that he would fix it. And not to worry. The whole thing was very shady looking back at it. He insisted that **** needed eye removal. I wasn’t going to just cut his eye out so I got a 2nd opinion At UT Knoxville, and had MS remove his eye. When I picked up my dog I was publicly shamed in front of an office full of customers. The vet refused to see me and I had a 1300 dollar bill. I called the cops and got my dog after paying $400. The doctor harmed my boy, refused to cover his medical expenses as promised, lied, and embarrassed me. It’s something I will never forget.

    Mountainstone Veterinary Hosp Response

    11/10/2022

The patient presented for surgery on 10/13/22 to correct a large, ulcerated prolapsed nictitans gland. The decision to remove the gland surgically was made based on pre-operative assessment and the very high likelihood a Morgan Pocket would fail. The surgery was routine and without complications. The patient was brought back in for post-operative evaluation concerning the eye. The owner was informed of the severity of the issue and that the likelihood of the actual surgery causing a corneal perforation was extremely low. We were, and still are, concerned the patient rubbed his eye significantly post-operatively, causing the damage. We discussed options with the owner, enucleation being recommended. The owners wanted a second opinion and a referral to UT. The referral was submitted without issue. Our suspicions were supported in the report from UT stating the owners mention the patient is uncomfortable and pawing at his eye. It was decided enucleation was the next step. The owners were quoted for that procedure at UT and decided to have the procedure performed at Mountainstone. The surgery was, again, routine and without complications. At pick-up the owners were very upset about having to pay for any services they requested. At no point were the owners informed services would be without charge, however, in good faith, charges were significantly reduced, not to admit any wrongdoing from Mountainstone, simply because the owners have been longstanding and loyal clients.

    Customer Response

If this was true why did the doctor meet me outside of the office on his carport to discuss the health of my dog? He’s lying period! I have a witness that this happened. I also have police body cam footage of how he threatened to keep my dog hostage unless I paid 1100 dollars for the corrective surgery. My wife was a witness and rather than just let his slander and lies go without consequences I chose to take things to the BBB. I would say more but folks not at fault do not volunteer to take care of the issue on the stoop of their business away from other customers. I should have recorded the exchange we had and I regret trusting this man and his word.
