On June 28, 2023, we met with ******* ******* at our home at *** * **** ** in Watertown. He walked around our home and offered to paint the entire house for $8500, which included $1000 for materials. We agreed to this and emphasized that time was of the essence in getting it painted, as we were putting the house up for sale. *** ******* stated that he would be able to do the job within 3-4 weeks, and paying half the amount up front would get us a spot on his schedule. We gave him a check for $4250. The check was cashed at our bank within the next day or two. *** ******* did not show up during the second half of July as promised. Repeated phone calls and texts were replied to with "I'll get back to you", and then in August he no longer responded to calls or texts. I eventually was able to reach him by phone and he stated he had been in an accident and was hospitalized and having surgeries. We offered to downsize our project to just painting the high eaves and soffits, and he agreed to this. He thought he could get a crew to come out and paint once he was able to access his storage building in mid August. When nothing materialized in August, I sent a text to *** ******* requesting firm dates of Sept. 7 and 8 for the painting. *** ******* agreed to the dates. No one showed up to paint on those dates. We sent an email to *** ******* on Sept. 9, stating that we would be filing a complaint with the BBB. He replied to the email on Sept 11 saying he had lost his phone which was why he didn't respond, and he would get a crew to our house the following week. At the end of September I sent a text saying we would like our money returned and *** ******* stated he would attempt to do that. There has been no further communication and no money returned. We have listed our home, and any potential buyers would need the peeling paint on the eaves to be remedied in order to obtain a mortgage. We found another crew willing to do the work, and they have completed the painting job.
