      My mother who is 80 years of age is being charged a fee for cataract surgery which we had to decline because of the high copay she has to pay from the surgical center the eye center uses for surgery. The fee for cataract surgery my mother needs to pay is $700 per eye from the surgical center the Rock Hill Eye Center uses. We were then told the $700 fee was for both eyes, go figure. According to Rock Hill Eye Center they are unaware of the amount the surgical center was charging. So my question is how is it that you have a partnership with another business and you are unaware of what they charge???? I would think if they are setting up these surgeries it is their job to know. What if the surgical center charges 30 thousand dollars, they would not now that either, really??? We cannot be the only ones they have done this too knowing that they can get away with this towards seniors.They know full well that people like my mother who are on a fixed and limited income and may not be able to afford this surgery. I truly believe this is a scam and fraudulent and have noticed practices like this before with this eye center. They did the same when my mother needed her eye lifted from inside the eye due to drooping of the eyelid. In order to make the appointment, if my mom did not qualify for that eye surgery they would have charged her a fee too, just for the consultation. She did however qualify at the time but when they do these exams unless the client is proactive, they do nothing. My mother had an eye exam years before and they never mentioned that it was a cause for concern. The surgery cancelation fee is $100 dollars and we canceled with time as soon as we realized that we could not pay this high copay. We gave them plenty of time and it was not last minute at all. I want this fee removed which I did call the eye center and they refuse. Please resolve.
