They have scammed me, I went into a contract with Modern Roofing for $6,451,32 for a new roof. I endorsed two checks total of $8,753.85 to Modern Roofing, The different was for window screens and downspouts, they verbally told me they can complete installing new windows screens and downspouts. after I endorsed the last check, I was told they will send me a credit of $2303.53 in two day which they wrote on my receipt. They explained to me, Due to there back up, they will not be able to install all new window screens and downspouts. I called several time for my credit and they said no, We made a mistake by promising you credit. This company Modern Roofing from the Greensboro, North Carolina area has scammed me, out of $2303.53 please beware of these roof vultures. They have breach the contract. Hello,
We can understand your frustration but want to ensure the customer we did not breach our contract. The $2303.53 the customer is referring to is the supplement payment from their insurance. It states on the customers roofing agreement that "Modern Roofing will review your insurance estimate. If we find missing line items, code errors, mismeasurements, we will supplement your insurance company to correct those errors. ln the case the insurance company approves part or all of the supplement, those proceeds become a part of the contract and are monies owed to Modern Roofing. Supplemental money may be issued before the completion of the job. In the event the insurance company pays the Final and Supplemental payments before the job is completed, they will be due upon completion of the Roof." This document was signed and initialed by the customer. Please see attachement. The original approval from the customer's insurance company was for $7,951.32, of which she had an obligation of $1,500. We had to supplement her insurance company for $2,302.53 due to insurance missing key components to install the new roof. The customer was unable to pay her obligation of $1,500.00 so she opted to use 8 screens and 45 LF of downspouts totaling $971.18. We had also given her some advertising rebates of $378.82 to help offset some of her obligations. She was only left with owing $150.00 of the $1,500.00 which she never paid.

A few roofing agents from Modern Roofing came, telling us they could give us a "free quote" after refusing to acknowledge the "No Soliciting Sign" at our front door.
The roofing agent was not requested but arrived and pressured my wife and me (******** ******** *******) with constant calls and visits in an attempt to find out if our insurance had approve our request to cover roof repairs. We thought they were extremely pushy so we hesitated and considered another company. However, an agent came with a contract, knowing my wife is not familiar with the process. The agent was quick and convincing in his approach, emphasizing that the quote was free. He explained that all she had to do is sign, and my wife trusted the agent, but he was not verbal when explaining the details and what's annotated into the contract. He kept emphasizing the word free and all you have to do is sign. Now, we have to pay them $1000 for something we could have done ourselves. We requested details of the exact services, but were not provided. We received a receipt demanding 1000.00 or be faced with legal actions.Business Response

Hello,
We are very sorry to hear of your frustration. After looking through your job profile there has been no communication with a concern about a no soliciting sign or a pushy project manager. We do however have documentation where we began working with you back in February 6th, 2025. Your claim initially got denied on 2/27/25. Luckily, that is our speciality, Modern Roofing took the proper next steps and provided your insurance with test squares to prove your claim and requested a re-inspection. On 4/29/25 we were able to get your roof fully approved by your insurance. Congrats! During this entire process, their is documentation where we have spoken to both you and your wife about the process and the steps being taken. After several attempts to get ahold of you and your wife, on 5/19/25, HO spoke with our GM about receiving the insurance scope and payment. This was the first time where any hesitation was noted about potentially wanting to cancel. 5/19/25, HO was reminded of our cancellation policy. On 5/20/25, HO talked to GM again about next steps and was again reminded of the cancellation policy. On 5/23/25, HO texted the office stating they wanted to go with another company and that is when the office manager let you know how to make your cancellation payment. After several days, breech of contract was sent on 5/30/25.
We are very sorry to have lost you as a customer but understand your choice to use another contractor. The cancellation policy is solely in place to cover all expenses used since starting your claim back in February. If the HO feels they would like more explanation for a transcript of all our communication we would be happy to provide them with anything they need. Please simply, contact the office and they will gladly help you with that.

Have a NO SOLICITING sign at the driveway entrance and one at the sidewalk entrance. Modern Roofing employees walked past both NO SOLICITING signs, ignored them, and entered the property for attempted solicitation. Afterward, they loitered in the street near my mailbox for several minutes. Appeared to neighbors as if scoping out the property/neighborhood.Business Response

$13000 dollars for roof replacement
Roof replacement for Storm damage, roofing crew did a horrible job, damaged property, bad install of roofing and not installed properly. Drip edges not cut correctly, roof was replaced partially in dark. Gutters damaged from takeoff of old roof material, some damage to siding ,

On January 29, 2025 Modern Roofing put a new roof on my home. During this process they damaged one of our gutters and now it is leaking when it rains. Also caused damage to our garage and while they were working one of their employees urinated in my back yard. My wife and I have both tried to make contact and get this situation resolved but they have not contacted us back yet.Business Response

MODERN ROOFING, LLC, located at **** ***** ******* ** Columbia, SC took an $11,762 "Down Payment" from me on November 6, 2024 and I never heard back from them after that date. They cashed the check 2 hours after coming to my house to collect it. I called their representative, Blake R******* (************) multiple times, but he no longer returns my calls. I called their main office and spoke to Ms. Ayanna H*** who is supposedly a company manager, (************* and she informed me that they are "very busy" and will "eventually" get to my roof work in the order it was received. It has been two weeks since they took my money but they won't even give me a tentative date of when they might start working on my roof. Meanwhile, ***** my insurance company, has indicated that they will CANCEL my insurance coverage if they do not receive a Certificate Of Completion for this work because this is an Insurance claim that is subject to full verification. Thank you for your patience as we work to get your roofing project underway. We understand it can be frustrating to wait for your installation date, especially with the holidays approaching.
To clarify the scheduling process: once a contract is signed, we order materials and schedule our crews, placing projects on the production calendar in the order they are received. While we were initially booked out, we were happy to find a customer willing to swap dates with you, allowing us to move your installation up to November 26th. We understand you ultimately preferred a date in early December, which we have now scheduled.
We want to assure you that we have been in regular contact to discuss your project and address your concerns. Our records show conversations on November 5th, 6th, 8th, 11th, 12th, 15th, and 21st.
Regarding the Certificate of Completion for your insurance, this is a standard document we provide after every installation. We understand the timeline associated with insurance claims and will ensure this is submitted promptly once your project is complete.

Modern Roofing came out to put a new roof on my house recently. They dropped all their garbage in my pool and left it as is. I had to have to hire someone to clean up their mess, which I paid out of my pocket, which was a little costly.
Although, they replaced the roof they left rotten wood instead of replacing the rotten wood. After paying for services that was shoddy, they need to come back and fix the problem.Business Response

Regarding the pool concern first. Modern Roofing is not responsible for covering a customer pool before installation. That is up to the customer to perform. This customer was made aware of this the day of contact signing by also initialing the Installation Guidelines. (Picture 1). The day of the install the pool was covered by the homeowner but was improperly secure by only some potted plants. (Picture 2). Because of this, a small amount of construction debris did get into the customers pool. (Picture 3). Even with all these facts, Modern Roofing went above and paid for the customers pool to be cleaned. The customer did not pay for this. (Picture 4).
Regarding the rotten wood. We replace wood as needed on the projects once we get all the shingles off and can see what shape the ply wood is in. This property needed 5 pieces of wood replaced. (Picture 5) The type of plywood we use is called OSB on this invoice.

We have tried to explain to this customer that we performed the work contracted out to Modern Roofing per their scope of work provided from their insurance company (**** ******* and the signed Modern Roofing agreement. Again, the customers insurance company ONLY paid out for detach and reset of only a partial portion of their siding. On the Modern Roofing agreement, which the customer signed, shows the scope of work to be performed (screenshot 1). The highlighted area, L (Line item) 20, 24, 31, 34 is referring to the customers insurance scope of work which is screenshot 2 and 3, which is highlighted as well. The customers insurance clearly states what they paid out for, detach and reset. This means we detach the piece of siding that is loss and reattach it in line with the rest f the siding. The customer did not provide any extra out of pocket expense and there is nothing signed by Modern Roofing or the customer that says Modern Roofing is to fully replace any part of the siding. With that said, like we have explained to the customer, we would be happy to provide the customer with an estimate to replace the siding or the customer can reach out to their insurance and reopen their claim if they feel their insurance neglected to provide adequate coverage for their repair issues. Modern Roofing legally can not reopen a claim on behalf of the customer.Customer Answer
