I am filing a complaint against South Strand Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in ******** Island, SC for the fraudulent sale of a vehicle. The date of the purchase was April 24 2025 for $43,900 for a used 2023 ****** Tacoma with ***** miles. The vehicle was not picked up until May 14 2025 because my husband was deployed overseas and I was completing military training in *****. Due to our situation all paperwork and transactions were done prior to seeing the vehicle. South Strand stated that the car was in perfect condition, with a clean title and that the car was inspected and certified with a 3 month, ***** mile bumper to bumper warranty. The day after picking up the truck I noticed the clutch was slipping. The dealership was notified of this discovery on May 16th 2025. On May 19th 2025, I took it to a ****** dealership and a transmission shop who both verified that the clutch was slipping with a burning smell and debris around it. Both noted that this was very unusual for a truck with such low mileage and the amount of wear is not possible within the few days I drove the truck. Once notified of the issue South Strand told us not to deal with them and to have the original ****** warranty cover the issue, disregarding the warranty they promised to provide. The truck is still covered under the original ****** warranty but the ****** dealership stated that since the clutch is a "wearable" part it is not covered. We called South Strand back to explain this and ask to try and proceed with their warranty but I was berated by a service tech at one point and was told bluntly that they can't help. Weve called & emailed them numerous times about this issue but have not received any further communication. They stated the vehicle was inspected in perfect condition however the clutch was worn down and slipping; damage that would have been present during the inspection of the vehicle. This has cost us over $2,000 in inspections and repairs to get the part fixed to safely drive.

The Tacoma was a very clean truck with a clear title and excellent Carfax report. When the customer came in for delivery, they drove it around the lot and checked it out. If there was a problem with the clutch at that time it would have been discovered then. There was nothing wrong with the clutch when the customer took delivery of the Tacoma.

I am rejecting this response because:

Although the car was driven around the lot upon pickup, the clutch issue was not apparent until getting into the higher gears used while driving at higher speeds on the highway. This was a new vehicle to my wife so she wasn't used to the clutch feel and thought maybe the slipping feeling was just her getting used to a new car. After driving more at highway speeds she realized it was not just a new feel but that there was something wrong with the vehicle. All specialists we talked to said there was no way the clutch could have worn out in the time from picking up the truck to when my wife brought it in to be looked at. The fact that South Strand Chrysler has not returned any of our emails or calls is very frustrating as we would like to work this out directly instead of going though this additional effort.

    Thank you for your time.

    Sincerely,

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

I am reaching out about a complaint I filed under the complaint ID ********. I wanted to update the claim status but it looks like I am unable to make a new response to this claim. I just wanted to say I finally received some compensation from the business nearly a month after the businesses response, but I would like to reflect that South Strand Chrysler did not provide the full amount required to repair the vehicle they sold to me in a damaged condition.

Before closing out the claim, I would like the claim to note that this business after multiple months finally reached out and provided some compensation but this was not nearly enough to cover the cost of repairs to the damaged vehicle they sold us. **** the store manager was helpful after being ignored by the rest of his staff for months after purchasing the vehicle, but the business as a whole treated us very poorly through this whole process, and without the BBB I feel like we be in an even worse position.

Please let me know if you require any additional information from me. Thank you!

    Sincerely,

    ****** *********

On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, I took my car to south strand Dodge charger to get a second opinion I explained to the gentleman ******* that the car was taken to a prior mechanic and the mechanic advised me to trade the car in cause it was not worth fixing. *******, ran my car through the Dodge scanner and advised me that the other mechanic did not have their high tech equipment for diagnostics and all that was wrong was a cylinder replacement. He reassured me that the car was worth fixing and once he repaired the cylinder the car would run for another two years. He assured me that there was absolutely nothing else wrong with the car, and for $2500 the car would be fixed. As a well known establishment I took their word. When picking up my loaner, ******* tells me the car is not fixable without a new computer system. That the work they had performed did not solve the problem, in which he originally guaranteed me it would.I dont think I should have to pay dodge for misdiagnosis!!Attached, you will find a copy of the prior mechanic notes on the car not being able to be repaired, unless I replaced it with a new engine or trade in.I read to ******* on Tuesday November 12, 2024 what the prior mechanic said, and he told me that the prior mechanic did not have Dodge high tech diagnostic equipment.Coming to find out the prior mechanic was absolutely correct!! Dodge is trying to make me pay for their mistake and bring a car home that is not useable. Please help cause I feel Im being taken advantage of, the car was brought from South Strand dealership in 2008 I really thought taken the car to the original dealership they would be more accurate on their diagnostic.

I took my car to the dealer for warranty sunroof repair in April. The replacement sunroof broke and they had dented the roof and broke a interior panel. Also it was not sealed correctly that when it rained the roof leaked. I've taken my car at least 3 times to be fixed. Now they've had it for the past 2 months.

I purchase a truck the end of January. During the test drive I mentioned the vibrating of truck and was told it was a tire issue. I noticed the vibration got worse so I took it back to have it checked. I was told that the rim is dent however they refuse to replace it stating that at this point it is my responsibility. I havent had the truck long enough for it not to be covered by them nor the warranties. I feel it is unfair and not right that I have to come out of pocket to resolve an issue that was there during purchase
