I hired “Trusted handyman” aka Stephen koo and wish I hadn’t…..I found them on Nextdoor and some lady tried to warn me off so thought it only prudent to post my negative experience. Hired him to do Plumbing work and found out later he is not licensed in the state of South Carolina to perform plumbing work.

I Hired him for a simple bathtub installation. Came on a Thursday and installed the tub without the required rim boards which is required by the installation instructions and was discussed in writing prior. When I reminded him day before they must be installed his response was “we know”. Then they didn’t install. Quite the attitude for what’s the come….

He came back out on Friday to add the board and reinstall. Stephen threatens to sue me for payment on Monday…again this is the SAME DAY they finished within a couple hours since the job is “complete”. Stephen sounded like a desperate money hungry psychopath in my opinion. Alarm bell starts ringing….

I tell them especially since previous days misinstallation I will inspect it and water test before paying them. They try making excuse that “you also can’t use water until tile is installed”. What a lie! Thank goodness I didn’t listen.

So the next morning I cut off the tube he had blocked and ran the water and guess what? It leaking like a wide open sieve and damaged the ceiling below.

Long story short I had to hire an actual plumber who tore out and redid all their shoddy work. The plumbing they did to the spout didn’t meet code either and was off center. No washer or propert sealant was installed on the tub drain which is why it leaked. Was also installed way off center. No fasteners were installed in the tub either. It’s hard finding ANYTHING that was done properly.

Stephen even had the gall to state “you telling us how to do the work and I’m just wondering why you just didn’t do it yourself?? We did a good job at a fair price.”

This customer was not correct. The customer agreed to supply us with all of the materials to install his tub. He failed to have the ledger boards that go around the outside perimeter of the tub. The ledger boards just add another layer of stability to the sides of the tub. However, the tub comes with clips that hold the sides of the tub to the framing studs. After the install on Thursday, he then sent me a text that the ledger boards were not installed. So, I had my tech go back the next day and install the ledger boards as requested. We even paid for them since he did not provide them. Friday, we completed the job and instructed the customer not to run water or stand in the tub for 24 hours because there is cement poured under the tub for strengthening the tub base. The tech completed the job and asked his wife for payment. She said he would have to get it from her husband. Unfortunately, he never answered his text messages or phone calls. At 6 pm I started texting him and calling to follow up to see how the job went and to collect payment. He still did not respond. After 8 pm, I sent him a message stating we need to speak to him about the job and payment, or we will have no choice but to take him to small claims court for the $1500 he owes us. His response immediately was "Do it". So, if he was so quick to answer that message, why wouldn't you answer our phones calls etc.? The next day was Saturday. He sends a video showing him running water in his tub. Less than 12 hours after we told him not to run water or get into the tub for 24 hours. It shows that the tub drain had a leak. No problem, the tub drain needed tightened. So, my tech immediately asked to come right away to correct this, and he declined for us to do so. He never paid us anything. We are out $250 in materials not including the labor. For all we know is he purposely loosened the drain to act like we did not do something correctly. So, he would not have to pay us. We just chalked it up as a loss. A week later, He starts posting frivolous comments and reviews online and then posts a review on the BBB. The customer was the weekend warrior and decided to tear his bathroom apart and then asks for help. We have spoken to our company attorney was advised that since we have not gotten paid and he did not let us come and inspect our errors, we are not liable for any work that he is doing after the fact. We are asking in good faith not to post this review due to the following facts. He even admitted that he cut the water line and started running the water without the work being fully completed.
