I had this business come out to do concrete work. They seemed nice and professional when they came out to quote. I set up a day with them to do the project. I went over everything in explicit detail as to what I wanted. First they underbid the job, and I had to pay the subcontracted concrete delivery company personally and I was told they would take it off the total price. Then there was a discrepancy with them pouring concrete around an access lid which was EXPLICITLY explained how it needed to be. When I went out and questioned it, I was told it was now permanently done wrong and there was nothing they could do to resolve it. So they offered me $200 to pay to have it fixed myself by someone else. They started this project late in the afternoon, which was a huge project, and they only brought 2 workers so the concrete was set before they could do most of the finishing work. Then when they said they had completed the job, it was 10pm and it was pitch black when they wanted me to look at everything and ok it. I couldn't see much, so we settled up and they left. Immediately after the concrete was set, I emailed him pictures of all the flaws (blocked in a door, didn't broom finish, missed a section, gravel showing etc.) and asked him to come out and address and assess them. He emailed me back and said he would come out and address. He was a no show. I contacted again and he set up another day to come out. He was a no show again. I contacted him again and asked for a refund for all the damaged concrete. He said no, he would come out and fix it. He set up another date and no showed. I contacted him again and asked for a refund since he couldn't be bothered to show up. He said he would be there in 2 weeks with a check. He was a no show again and now will not respond to any of my messages. They did awful work and will not take accountability or make it right with their customer. I would like a refund for this terrible job since it is not functional and looks terrible.

    ******,

We apologize for the inconvenience and miscommunication on our end. After carefully reviewing the details regarding your experience, we decided we are unable to issue any additional refunds outside of the initial offer to compensate for the two inches preventing the door to fully open. Our reasoning for this decision is detailed below.

The concrete was finished under construction lighting, so there were no issues regarding vision during completion. We do not accept final payment without expressed satisfaction after a thorough walkthrough, to which we ensured prior to being paid in full. However, we failed to check the clearance between the concrete step and the doorway, so we offered to remedy the issue with a partial refund, which you agreed would suffice since there were no other issues.

Afterwards, it was brought to our attention that there were a few inches of exposed aggregate along the innermost edge underneath the wooden steps, as shown in your photos, along with a bit of overflow along the outside corner of the slab in one area, and some staining along the concrete foundation of the house adjacent to the slab. Due to these concerns being cosmetic rather than defects affecting the integrity of the slab or overall appearance of the surface, it does not warrant an additional refund. We will gladly return to remove the stains along the foundation, and cut the excess concrete from the outer corner of the slab.

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this causes.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.

It is true that the business has offered me a partial refund. But I have been trying to get a hold of them for 3 months in order to get my refund check and they will not return my calls, emails or meet me at their office on the days they told me to come by, which I did. If they do not get my refund to me as promised, I may decide to escalate this to court.

    Regards,

I contracted with Concrete Master Upstate LLC on November 7. 2022 to demo and replace a driveway. After several delays, the demolition began on November 22, 2022. The owner, Jamar W****, said it would take a half day to demo followed by forms that same day and concrete the next. The actual demo took 2 full days and no forms were constructed. The demo took longer than expected due to the lack of proper tools and manpower. Because they missed the scheduled pour date of November 23, 2022, the job was postponed twice and concrete was poured on November 29, 2022 following several days of rain and on a day that was scheduled for severe weather that evening. The concrete ordered by the owner was way too wet too wet to use but, instead of stopping the truck from dumping the entire load, he went on to try to use it. They worked all day with substandard tools to attempt to complete the job but when the rain started late that night, they covered it with plastic and promised to be back in the morning to finish. Unfortunately, the concrete was unworkable at that point and they had to abort the job. The owner admitted fault and promised a refund but will not answer calls or return emails.

In short, Concrete Master Upstate LLC and owner Jamar W**** lacked the knowledge, skills and tools to complete the contracted work, admitted as much, promised a refund and fell short there as well.

We can only hold ourselves accountable, but it is important to note that, as you know and witnessed, the concrete material was a faulty mix and the supplier refused to resend the batch. You were not only present during, but also participated in the conversation with the representative from the supplying company who clearly acknowledged the issue, yet told us there was no remedy they would be willing to provide.

There was overnight rain showers  forecasted, so we secured the finished slab with plastic. The following morning, we returned to notice that the   slab had been uncovered and the rain oversaturated the material, thus resulting in the appearance shown. We asked what happened to the secured plastic and did not receive a sure answer.

Due to the unfair circumstance with the supplier, and the unknown circumstance that resulted in the plastic being noticeably unsecured, we agreed to replace the unfinished slab and use a different company altogether, to which you initially agreed. Later, you insisted you be provided a refund, to which we referred you to our written and signed agreement explaining the warranty procedures. Still, you refused to have the concrete replaced at zero cost to you.

The experience altogether was quite unfortunate, yet it is an experience that we certainly appreciate. Thank you for your business, ******.
