I had work done there before… and I love to support Black owned businesses. The work was great, so I went back a second time. I gave my $100 deposit to the shop but the owner fired the artist that I signed up for and felt comfortable with. He then tried to push me off on another artist. With work as big as I was getting I didn’t feel comfortable and asked for my deposit back. He refused to give my deposit back, despite firing the artist I felt comfortable working with. Shady business practices, which is unfortunate. The owner then tried to pass off giving back the refund by stating he gave it to the artist and to work it out with him. When I paid the deposit I paid the shop and not the artist. It shouldn’t be the customers responsibility to hunt down the artist to get their money back, the shop should honor the fact that the customer paid them and not the artist directly.

I went back to the shop on 1/3/2024 and requested a refund to my deposit. The owner refused the refund, told me to get out of the shop and threatened to call the police on me.
This occured between October 2023 and January 2024.

Our shop has a no refund policy, also being that the artist who we let go was paid their portion of the deposit. We informed her that she may contact him in regards of her piece. We gave her all his contact information; we gave her the option of keeping the appointment with a different artist. This specific artist was fired because of their inappropriate actions.
We told her the day that she put down her deposit that the $100 was nonrefundable and have multiple signs around the shop stating this as well. Its also stated on our social media as well.

I am rejecting this response because: The sign says in the event of a no call/no show that the customer will not receive their deposit back. This was not a "no call/no show", the owner of the shop fired the artist that I chose to provide the service. At the time of paying the deposit, I paid the shop and not the artist individually and was not notified that they would pass the money on to the artist. Since this was not a "no call/no show", it is well within the parameters of having the deposit refunded because it was not at fault of the customer it was the shops error. Since a tattoo is a permanent commitment, to force someone to receive a permanent marking on their body by someone that they did not choose is forcing someone to disfigure their body against their will. I would like my deposit back because a service was not provided, it was not a "no-call/no show", and I gave the shop my money and not the artist.

    Sincerely,

The artist no longer works for us they were paid her deposit, we gave her the information in regards to ascertain her said deposit back which she declined. Being that our artist are subcontractors they are paid their money we gave her the information to contact him to retrieve said funds, she declined we also added that one of our artist would do her said tattoo at the price quoted by the artist we let go she declined also with that being said we have nothing more to offer her especially after the posts she made, and etc
