If I could give a ZERO rating rather than one star I would. This apartment complex is a high-priced slum parading as student and loft apartments. The building itself is shoddy, filthy and ill-maintained. The building manage reflects the building. The one star I might give is to the overworked and frightened front-office staff whose main job is to apologize and cover for the general manager who is rarely available. Attempts to reach the regional manager of Yugo have proved fruitless.

My bad experience began with the move-in. I was told I could not view the specific apartment for which I had a signed lease. Trusting that it would at least be similar in quality and size to the model I'd viewed I arrived on the appointed date in August 2022 with the moving truck and moving crew, I discovered that the assigned apartment was NOT the one for which I had the signed lease.

When I asked why my lease was not honored, the manager Sean O'Hara replied that the previous tenant of my apartment had "decided to stay." Instead of an apartment with 17' loft ceilings, storage and a view, I was forced to take a smaller apartment with 8 to 9' ceilings, NO storage and a view of the bottom of the 120' chimney. The bathroom was not ready to use, kitchen and bath appliances were rusty, tile was broken and all closets and cabinets were covered in grease. Without options the moving crew piled the boxes in, I lived with a friend two weeks and slowly made it habitable.

There were larger issues with the building as well. The elevators broke down and were unusable for eight months. The water main broke shortly after Christmas. It took over 2 weeks before there was safe water. Deafening false fire alarms would go off in the middle of the night and other random times.

I finally found another place to live July 2023. I moved out a month early and my request for some compensation for vacating early was refused. I spent days cleaning. To add insult to injury I have been charged bogus damage fees.

The Lofts Apartments have trumped up damage charges for the apartment my UofSC student daughter lived in from Aug 2021 to May 2022. We signed a pre move-in inspection report, took numerous pictures of the condition of the apartment. We thoroughly cleaned, sanitized and disinfected the mold and extensive dirt that was present upon move-in. The Lofts now claim we owe them for damages that were present when we moved in and is threating lawyers and collections against my daughter & myself. To avoid this, we paid the charges as we had no other alternative. We paid for all the cleaning charges of $105 but disputed the damage charges as they were either already present upon move-in or were normal wear and tear for a 1-year lease. My daughter's roommate was also presented with fictitious damage charges as I am sure most students who live there were. We both requested a walk-through two days before move-out as stated in their move-out instructions but were both denied. The Lofts@ UofSC is purposely and unscrupulously charging my daughter to gain additional revenue. I am attaching the pre inspection report and have multiple move-in and move-out pictures upon request. Regards, Chris
