    On 9/08/23 I was to move into The Grove Apartments on St. Andrews Road in Columbia, SC. 1 hour before my move-in time, they called me saying my apartment was not ready and that I can move in the following week. I had already signed a contract for the apartment they were going to give me so I asked if there was anything else available that day as I was moving to start a new job. I came in and they made me sign onto a new apartment lease where they were still installing the fridge, blinds were broken, and the bathroom was not clean. I started moving my things in, went out to grocery shop around 4 pm this day and came back around 8:45 pm that evening and there were 3 live roaches crawling around my things unpacked from my car. for the next 2 hours I saw about 12-15 live roaches coming from the water heater, the bathroom, outside. There were cracks in the floor boards of the walls. I left at 10:45 pm to spend the night somewhere else because I could not sleep with roaches. The 9/10/23 morning I emailed Mario Moon telling him I would not be staying, I packed my things up and did not stay for 24 hours, there were 15 more dead roaches all over the floor. Getting out of the contract they tried to tell me "this was just a pest problem" eventually they gave me my money back for the deposit minus $100 due to me "occupying the apartment" Now 7 months later the apartment has lawyered up and is trying to get $1551.31 from me because I "breached the contract" I left within 24 hours, I gave notice within their 48 hours, they gave me money back and are now trying to tell me I owe money. I do not want to pay this amount and my credit will go bad if this does not resolve.

    I cannot express enough how nightmarish my experience has been at this place. Right from the beginning, it became painfully clear that the management had no regard for the residents' well-being or the property's condition. The apartments, both inside and out, are in a state of disrepair that is simply ignored by the management. Their claim of upgraded appliances is a joke; even thrift store items would be a significant improvement. The non-functional light fixtures and widespread electrical issues throughout the complex are a constant source of frustration. To make matters worse, they impose a hefty $60 charge for internet and Wi-Fi, even if you have no interest in using them. The laundry facilities are perpetually out of order, leaving residents without a reliable means to do their laundry. And for the past three years, my AC and heater have failed to work properly, making my living conditions unbearable. Safety is a major concern here, as there have been annual shooting incidents that should never happen in a place meant for residents' well-being. On top of that, the dysfunctional mailboxes force residents to waste their time going to the post office just to collect their mail. It's disheartening to discover that some positive reviews may have been influenced by incentives, like discounted rent in exchange for favorable feedback. If you're considering moving to this place, I implore you to visit in person and see the conditions for yourself. Don't trust all the seemingly positive reviews, as I suspect they might have been coerced through incentives. Your well-being should be the top priority, and based on my honest opinion, avoiding this disastrous property and exploring alternative housing options, including government housing, would be the wisest decision. It's truly unfortunate that I'm willing to break my lease and owe them more money than they deserve, solely due to safety concerns and their lack of care.
