      My son and I signed a lease for a year for ***** to rent an apartment from Clemson Lofts. As a prerequisite, we had to provide proof of renters insurance if we decided to get our own policy (instead of the policy the company touted). We secured a ***** **** policy which was accepted as valid in August 2022. In October, Clemson Lofts Inc. signed a new third party contract with ***** Inc of Columbus OH to provide insurance and verify existing policies. We were sent an email in October and November and informed ***** would re-verify other policies and asked to upload a new copy of the previously accepted insurance policy with ***** Inc with an address added to the "Interested Party" section of our existing policy or we would automatically be enrolled in *****'s rental insurance at a rate of $14 a month. We admit that we did not read this email as the company accepted our ***** **** policy in August 2022 and our son has maintained this policy's premiums throughout his stay with Clemson Lofts. In my view, they accepted his policy in August 2022 as valid and meeting the legal threshold for coverage (the office manager agreed with this) and then changed the rules and third party provider in October 2022 in an effort to catch people and charge them for insurance that they did not need. We have uploaded/resubmitted the policy to ***** with the "interested party" updated section this past week. I am seeking to get A) an immediate cessation of charging us $14 monthly for ***** Insurance and B) a refund of the months that they charged my son.
