I have attempted to contact this designer numerous times to request some of my money back, considering I am not happy with the services rendered and not using an of the logo/branding. This business was one-sided transaction, in which I had no say on colors, design direction, font, or anything. There was nothing collaborative about this, which feels to be unethical and unprofessional, as the paying customer. The most disappointing part was that this was a designer, who claimed he was a friend and liked to "help out friends," who were just starting out in their own business. I requested further work in hopes he would then collaboratively work with me on changing the design altogether, but what I really wanted was my money back. After spending $1K not getting what I thought I was paying for, I certainly didn't want to throw in more money. His response was: "then when you requested further work which would require our shop rate to continue, you informed us that you didn't have any further cash budget. I offered you the more options, including services trade from your end. There has been nothing from your end on any such trade."

As a clinical therapist, I can't ethically trade therapy. I'm not that kind of business with a product to sell.

I don't feel the time was spent fairly on what I wanted and asked for. I felt like a rushed job and less important than higher paying clients to this business. He referenced several times that bigger, important clients pay upwards $5k to the $800 I had originally offered. I felt pressured into paying more in order to be taken seriously, in which I was not.

I am requesting some of my money back, "friend." I understand you spent some time on this design, but this whole transaction was a misalignment.

Wishing me " the best of luck on my journey," without taking any responsibility or my feelings into account feels extremely condescending.

Client agreed to the terms of service that if there was further work upon delivery that our shop rate would incur to proceed further. We completed those deliverables and made them available for download in the Dropbox folder. Client requested more work and informed us they did not have any more cash to complete requested work. To help them, we offered a payment plan for their additional work budget or a services trade equal to the dollar amount of the the work the client was requesting from us. On a phone conversation with the client they said they would send a services trade agreement for us to proceed with work. Client did not sent over any trade agreement while we, against our company policies, proceeded to preformed more work for them without pay and made the work available to the client. Then the client requested more work without any mention of compensation. At this point, we were out more billable hours without pay and had no confidence that the client would deliver compensation. No further time or work will be scheduled or allocated to this client from our business.

I knew Connor Lock, of Seven Design, as a friend of friends. Knowing he is a well established local artist, I asked if he had any novice designer referrals for me. I was looking for help in designing a logo for my therapy private practice website. He explained that he liked working with friends and had a soft spot for people just starting out in running their own business, like me. I told him that $800 was my budget. After he explained that he usually charges upwards $5k, I felt obligated to offer $1k, which was a stretch for me as a one woman show. He offered several packages outside of my budget. I could only afford the "one and done contract." If I needed additional help, I would have to pay $170. I went along with this assuming I was in good hands and that he would be collaborative, communicative and offer some support around edits, options and drafts. I answered all his intake questions and really put my heart into all the detailed questions, so he would know what I was looking for.
I was unhappy with the the design he and his team provided. I had no options on colors, fonts and no options to consult on drafts and ideas. The image looked like a cross between a beerhop lotus flower and eye. I had politely requested if he could make some edits, but there seemed to be resistence in going any other design direction other than something close to what he had already created. He made edits to the design and changed the shape. However, it's still not aligned to anything close to what I had asked for. I emailed multiple times and texted to ask if he and his team could please either help with some more defined revisions, or reimburse me some money for the logo, as it wouldn't be something I would be using. He did not respond to my question. He followed up with an email that everything was uploaded in dropbox and that it would be deleted by the end of the month. I'm now $1k short. I feel misread and taken advantage of. I felt like I wasn't taken seriously.

    Hey {name},
Thank you so much for reaching out and for your interest in working together! I really appreciate the thought and clarity you’ve put into the scope of services you're seeking — especially given how busy you are, which I truly respect.
Based on what you've described and how we’ve reviewed your current business footprint, the level of strategy, execution, and support you’re asking for would typically fall within the $5,000+ range.
I completely understand that your current budget is $800, and I want to be transparent with you while also exploring ways we can still collaborate meaningfully.

POST-PROJECT COMPLETION EMAIL RESPONSE AFTER CLIENT REQUESTED FURTHER WORK OUTSIDE OF THE PROJECT SCOPE
    9/22/25
    {name},
From the beginning of this interaction on our phone call I supplied you with several options for logo design to fit your budget. Fiverr, Chatgpt, or google search if you wanted to pursue a lower budget level.
Upon our discussion you inform us that you needed logo development, website setup, and strategy. You didn't have the budget to work with us on a full project development so I offered you an option to meet your budget to complete the project scope. You agreed and we executed the project scope for the agreed terms.
Then when you requested further work which would require our shop rate to continue, you informed us that you didn't have any further cash budget. I offered you the more options, including services trade from your end. There has been nothing from your end on any such trade.
At this point you have all of the deliverables you can use at your digression. If you would like to pursue more work with us then you will need a budget. Otherwise, we wish you the best of luck on your journey.
