1 starI start by stating, I am an retired police officer. I have years of my life behind a wheel. I had a terrible experience with Hi Road Insurance and believe this company may be using fraudulent practices. After signing up, I was required to download their tracking app, which is completely unreliable. It falsely counted me as driving when I was a passenger in *****, on air planes, and riding with family and friends. Because of this, my rate skyrocketed. The company software is very suspicious.They canceled my policy with only 10 days notice and refused to give me a reason, refusing to transfer me to anyone that could explain this.Due to their shady practices, I contacted my bank to report fraudulent charges and filed a formal complaint with the *******************************. I continue to file formal complaints with attorney generals and insurance regulators to hold this company accountable. Based on the numerous negative reviews, I believe it wont be long until a class-action lawsuit is filed, and I am prepared to fight this to the end. When a company engages in fraudulent practices, hides their actions, and profits from misleading their customers, it is absolutely worth taking a stand against them. This company lacks transparency, provides terrible customer service, and operates in a highly suspicious manner. It is unknown if they are real insurance carriers at this point. Thanks for this review and were sorry to hear youre not happy with us. Our HiRoad app uses the technology already in your phone to measure your driving habits and apply discounts up to 50% off each month to your max rate. While youd never pay more than your max rate, your monthly bill can fluctuate based on the types of trips you take. Though our app is pretty smart, it will record all recognized trips when it senses a vehicle in motion so we always recommend classifying your trips taken within a billing period as Driving or Not Driving. This helps us to make sure were rewarding your mindful habits, and not those of other drivers or trips taken in rideshares.
Keep in mind, insurance is a regulated industry. Like all insurers in your state, everything must be approved by your state's insurance regulator. When a customer purchases a policy, our team reviews it during the looksee period to determine eligibility for coverage over the full policy term. While were not able to disclose the reason for the cancellation here for privacy concerns, the reason for the cancellation as well as any prorated refund amount for coverage not provided will be listed in the communications you received about the cancellation.

1 starJust had my 6 month renewal and my rate went up almost 100 bucks for no reason at all! And the Stupid response i get is the exact same one everyone seems to be getting.....Hiroad doesnt care about the coustomer just the money they are scamming out of people! There response was basically we cant tell you exactly why your rates went up just that they did. What a crock! HIROAD and Apparently they're parent company are nothing but scams....and the really funny part will be there response....I would be willing to bet it looks almost like all of their responses on this and other reviews!! Its especially true for the insurance industry. Pricing is influenced by a variety of things, some within your control and some not. We carefully review all the data to provide the most fair and accurate price, based on the make and model of your vehicle, your driving history and the cost of doing business. Like all insurers in your state, our proposed changes are filed and must be approved by your state's insurance regulator.
While your *** rate *** fluctuate term-to-term, your opportunity to earn rewards will never go away. And, although we cant make life inflation-proof, youd always have a chance to save more by earning rewards for mindful driving. We do understand that you need a price that fits your budget. 1 starEarly on, I noticed unusual moments where my speed score would go down when I drove the speed limit. When I tried to understand how the scoring worked, they repeated most of what I knew and that they can't share as it's proprietary. The only novel thing they shared was that the time of driving and which roads are driven on can affect the driving patterns score.More scoring shadiness came up as I had the policy for a few months. I noticed my scores would drastically lower in several categories a few days before my next bill. The worst instance of this was the month before I canceled. For a THREE MILE boring drive, my safe speed score went down by 26, my smooth driving went down by 27, and my percentage dropped around 5-6%. I KNEW this drive was boring and safe.***** replied "I understand your frustration and the scoring can often times be confusing. Notably the change in scores has not greatly affected the overall discount. You are still projected to earn a 45% discount." not even addressing my main frustration that the drops didn't make sense. She was also wrong to say they were "not greatly affected" - my discount went from 45% to 40%. In this chat, she even stated different percentage discounts; 45%, 43%, and 41%.When I delved deeper, they said the scoring system changed from being monthly to being an average of the past 6 months, but that the % shouldn't be affected. But it WAS - I'd been complaining about that the whole time!Customer service acts like a gas lighter, telling you clearly false things and contradicting itself. After this, to top off the horrible experience with this company, I decided to delay closing my policy because I was going to be out of town for a couple weeks and wouldn't be driving. I wanted to take advantage of my driving patterns score going up during that time so at least my next (and final) month would be super cheap. But SOMEHOW my driving patterns score went down despite not driving for about 2 and a half weeks.HiRoad Assurance Company

We understand that our variable pricing model is a little different than what you may have been used to and that it can be frustrating to see your discount and scores update throughout the billing cycle.
At HiRoad, our focus is on the aggregate of your data over the course of each month. Its common to see your projected bill and scores fluctuate throughout the month, which is what you mention here. What you see during the billing cycle is a projection based on the most recent data we've received, including any trip categorizations, and we average the trips you've taken throughout the billing cycle at the end of the billing cycle to apply your final rewards.
Though you earned a higher than average reward off your *** rate each month you were with us, we understand that our pricing model may not be the best fit for everyone and we do appreciate you giving us a try while you did.Review fromH. E.

4 starsI've been insured by HiRoad for a couple of years now. Although my rate has almost doubled since I originally got insurance from them it's still a good deal. I might add that my driving patters, speed and frequency of driving has not changed. No accidents or tickets since being insured by them but my rates have almost doubled anyway. But I'm still with them although I have started to research other insurance companies. But for the most part I'm happy.HiRoad Assurance Company
