My building was impacted by Hurricane Ida back in September of 2021. We authorized Unlimited Restoration Inc, to start remediation on the building. We asked multiple times for what it would cost, with no answer. Per their signed work authorization they were supposed to enter into a formal contract within (2) business days of starting work. This never happened. Once the repairs were complete, a bill in the amount of $189,428.37 was sent to our organization. Per the work authorization, it was noted that URI only is paid what insurance would cover under the FEMA policy. Insurance only covered $93,691.50 for remediation. I also offered a fair amount on top of what insurance covered for profit at 25%. That was turned down. The company without a formal signed contract slapped a lien on our property for the remaining balance that was not due per the work authorization. They have now created a situation where we will have to bond over top of the lien to just keep financing in place. These are shady business tactics and borderline illegal. I can't be the only organization they have tried to take advantage of, nor will I be the last. Attached is their lien, marked-up work order authorization that was agreed to, and their preposterous unsigned "Estimate" as to what they liened our property. They also cashed our check and then proceeded to lien for the remainder. I hope this business can be investigated before they continue to prey on other small businesses.
