A storm came through the area I reside on Tuesday 4/29/2025. My power has been out since that day at 5:15PM. Since then, Duquesne Light Company has turned off their customer service line and only providing updates through an outage map. The outage map is not providing any information that can actually help me plan for next steps. It is listing on everyones estimated time for power to be restored as May 6th. We need actual timeframes so we can make plans for our ********* make matters worse, after 40 hours of power be out, they posted On their social media about how long food will remain good in an unpowered refrigerator. Food in a freezer is only good for up to 48 hours. Why post that near the end of the time frame for food to go bad? That should have been one of the first pieces of info sent out to help their customers. They have made no mention as to how they are reimbursing people for the lost of their groceries either or how people can get assistance if they cannot afford to eat out. In my neighborhood, we have down power lines and no one has been there to make sure no one goes near them. We have a dangerous situation with kids, pets, and wildlife in the area and Duquesne Light is taking no responsibility for the safety of any of it.On top of this all, my neighborhood has a lot of senior citizens in it who do not have the means to go get take out or go to a hotel. Duquesne Light has not reached out to any of them to offer assistance. As I stated above, they have no means to reach out to them either. They have abandoned their consumers but ask for patience without providing us any reason to give it to them.I am sure the lower level workers will get slammed with angry calls. I am asking for a call back from someone other than a lower level employee about these dangerous situations that Duquesne Light put us on by not providing us valuable information in a timely manner.Initial Complaint

I live alone and they sent me a bill for the period 3/23/25 to 4/22/25 in the amount of $213.23. This bill has to be in error as I have never received a bill for any March/April time period that was ever this high. I suspect something is up with Duq.Light since I previously had problems with their internal receipts department that just got resolved. Honestly someone is up to no good with this bill and I want someone to intervene to correct it. Last year my bill for this same 2 months was $70.02. I firmly believe that DLC made an error to my billing and that is an ongoing problem with them regarding account. I want it resolved immediately with a corrected billing as there is no way my bill could ever increase 300% for the same billing period year to year.Business Response

Re: BBB Complaint ****** ********* - 2325417
Dear Ms. ********************************* is a utility that is regulated by and subject to the jurisdiction of the
**************************************. However, I have the following information to provide
to you with respect to the above-mentioned complaint.
The most significant factors affecting usage are the appliances and other devices (particularly
heating and cooling related) used in the home, how they are used by the occupants, and the
weather. Electric consumption can also occur when a customer is not at home as many items
remain plugged in and use electricity continuously. The Company does not have the ability to
determine each item using electricity at the premises and frequency of use.
Company records show that Mr. ********* spoke with the company regarding the usage. The
Company offered to schedule a meter inspection to which Mr. ********* declined.
At the request of the Customer the ********************** will inspect the meter for a $20 fee which will be
refunded if any issues are discovered with the meter.
I called Mr. ********* to discuss his usage; I was unable to reach him and left a voicemail with
my phone number.
Mr. Pasparages account is billed at the residential service rate and bills are based on actual
meter reads taken by a meter that meets the Commission's standards.
It is the Company's position that the bills are correct as rendered, based on actual meter
readings, and billed in accordance with the Company Tariff that was approved by the PUC.Initial Complaint

Hi, Im a new homeowner and in the ******************. Recently, I was notified the two trees on my property would be cut down by utility company, Duquesne Lights, due to safety. While I dont agree with that assessment and have gotten nothing in writing, despite my request, I wont stand in the way of improving safety. However, they are now starting to cut down trees and are leaving stumps and piles of wood on residences property. The company is saying it is all responsibility as the homeowners to clean up their mess. When I complained about this, they said it was in their policy for homeowners to do. However, this is a disgrace for policy and is one that cannot be refuted because they are the only utility company for **************** (**********). I believe this to be a greedy company. Its sticking people with a $2000 to $3000 cleaning bill and I wanna file a complaint for them-to clean things up.For the amount paid, my annual Duquesne Light bill is between $1200-$1600.Business Response

************************* (***). However, I have the following information to provide to you with respect to
the above referenced complaint.
On March 10, 2025, Mr. ***** filed an informal complaint with the *** regarding this same issue.
As background, the trees mentioned in Mr. ****** complaint trees belong to the borough and is in the
boroughs Right-of-Way. A representative of from the borough spoke with Mr. ***** on March 11, 2025, and
advised the removal of the trees was approved to mitigate risk to the electric lines. The Complainant was also
advised the borough would clean up the wood and grinding the stumps.
As per the Companys policy, vegetation debris is left, in as safe a manner as possible, for the property owner
to dispose of. It is standard EDC practice to leave cut vegetation on site.

The company contacted me twice; Once with a local government planter Who explained to me the work and agreed to replace one of the trees with a new one. The second ****** was a representative from the company who stated that they were upset that I filed a complaint. I am dissatisfied because I still feel like this is an illegal business practice. ******************** has 6600 people. About 1/5 of those dont pay taxes because theyre minors. Which leaves us with approximately 5300 taxpayers. To completely remove the tree stumps and the lumber left behind is about $1000 a tree. Duquesne Light wanted to cut down 120 trees this season but stopped at 64. While, ******* has agreed to step in and clean up what they can it will cost our local City Hall about $64,000. Duquesne Light is the only company you can get power for in *******. They force you to agree to this terrible policy because they dont wanna spend the money as a company. Yet its still impacts us every day because it now takes money away from our taxes that we need for roads, etc. Lastly, our town is hosting the **** Open June 9 to the 15th. Leaving behind all of these cut down trees and piles of trash greatly impacts our town tourism. I wont stop the work getting done, but I cannot stress how broken this policy is.

This company passed on tenants past due balance of $1250 to us as landlord after they claimed there was a two way switch at her unit which was also operable by others outside her unit, the issue was fixed within 2 days but company did not give appointment for reinspecyion until 3 weeks later and also contacted us on 10/16 and backdated bill to 10/3 without informing or talking to us. one bulb running 24/7 for full year also will never cost $1250 and they found an easy target to collect money as tenant refused to pay. Not happy with how this was handled and not transferring bill balance back to tenants name as tenant also agrees it is not fair to pass on her bill to us landlord. due to family medical emergency we are going to be out of country starting 11/20 and wont have access to calls or text and very limited access to emails and want them to not take any actions without talking to us PLEASE NOTE: our MAILING ADDRESS IS ************************************** so please DONT send any correspondence to the property address in **********Business Response

Duquesne Light Company (Duquesne Light or the Company) is a utility that is regulated by and subject to
the jurisdiction of the ************************************** (PUC). However, I have the following
information to provide to you with respect to the above-referenced complaint.
A residential rental unit is considered "not individually metered" when a residential customer's meter registers
utility usage not exclusive to the customer's dwelling unit or its occupants.
Foreign wiring was discovered when a tenant notified the Company common area lights are serviced by their
meter. The Company visited the property to investigate. Our investigation confirmed the tenants meter
serviced the common areas.
The Complainants allegations are rooted in Act 54 of 1993 (Act 54), codified in relevant part at 66 Pa. C.S.A.
section 1529.1(b), which addresses foreign wiring. In accordance with Act 54, the Company placed the
tenants service in the building owners name and notified both the owner and the tenant that foreign load
was discovered. The property owner is responsible for the arrearage at the property even if it is one light bulb.
The owner remains responsible for the tenants arrearages (that accrued at the property where the foreign
load was located), and any charges that accrued between when the foreign load was discovered and when the
utility verified it was corrected. Once the foreign load is corrected (and verified by the utility) the electric
service is the tenants responsibility going forward.

On Tuesday 9/24/2024 Duquesne Light C0. had ****** tree service remove a 100-foot tall Locust tree that was close to but not on my property. They removed the small limbs and branches but left a huge pile of wood pieces on my property as big as 3 ft in diameter and 2-4 ft. long. I cannot move these as they are too heavy for me to handle. I should not have to pay someone to remove this because the tree was not growing on my property.Customer Answer

***************** has addressed my complaint. I received a phone call on Friday from a ****** Tree *** saying that the wood should not have been left on my property and that it had been moved to my next-door neighbor's property because that is where the tree had grown. It is stacked in a neat heap and not in my way but it is still an eyesore. I spoke to my neighbor and he has no plans to do anything with it. I am going to list it as free firewood on Craigslist.
Duquesne Light has trimmed the trees fouling their wires in the past, but their contractors have always removed the branches and logs that resulted. They did not have removal in their contract with ********************. I am 77 years old and am I not capable of moving the tons of wood that they abandoned, nor do I have a truck to try to dispose of it. I was on a Medical Certification Hold which is do to an ongoing issue. Was never told by customer service that the entire amount appled to the certification would come due in full. I paid amount that came do of $1021.00 which was all paid within a weeks time.. My complaint is that I was put on a 60 month *** agreement but the Duquesne ************************** website shows zero remaining payments on that arrangement? Arrangement was just started last July 2023? There should be 45 remaining months left on that current one. How is the website showing zero? I have made 4 calls asking for resolution with no explanation! I requested a call from a supervisor over a week ago with no call back. The website is not ***orting balances and-or arrangements correctly. Also asked Duquesne Light *** directly about a 24 month company arrangement and one *** said yes you would be eligible if the *** arrangement stops. I asked what that 24 month amount would be but was then advised they can not see it unless I discontinue the other arrangement. Talked to a billing *** this past week who advised they do not offer 24 month plans and said the other *** gave incorrect info..what is going on with all of this miscommuncation! I know they have 24 month plans because others are on it! I am not on any income based programs and paid a large sum to ensure no interruption of services. I need a Supervisor to outreach in regards to all of these issues. I even requested they pull the calls about what I am being told evertime I call. No offense, but customer service should all be on same page and when a customer asks for a Supervisor call that should be a priority! And the web portal needs looked into as to why innacurate info not matching.Business Response

My lights have been shut off as of this morning and I have a servere medical condition where as I have a live pick line that I have to feed myself through and get my meds! On the shut off notice nor on the Duquesne light website is it stated in black and white that I customer can not use a medical excuse more than three times over all to keep service stored. When I called the company they made this statement only to me today about not being able to restore services even with a medical excuse from my doctor only if the balance is paid in full! I have a blind son and he needs certain attention that I can not provide to him without being with electricity. Duquesne Light began cutting down trees that were leaning on the power lines. There is an especially large tree that they began removing but then decided that due to a "liability issue" they would not finish the job that they started and committed to completing. The tree has been left precariously leaning on the branch of another tree, and could fall at any moment - possibly resulting in serious harm or death if anyone is in the area. I am requesting that Duquesne Light provide the proper equipment needed and a tree cutting crew to finish removing the tree that they said would be cut down completely.

The Company reached out our second third-party vendor regarding the specialized equipment required
