On 2/13/2024 I was in an accident that left my van unoperable. The monroeville police had my van towed by Magills Towing. I was told by the police officer I could go collect my things from their office. Upon my arrival I was told I wasnt allowed to get my personal items because the title wasnt in my name and a bill of 1100 dollars or 350 dollars and the title was due. The tow in question mind you was literally less than 2 miles. I had the person who sold me the van order a title and then got it transferred to my name. When I went back to Magills to collect my personal belongings they wouldnt let me stating I had to pay a bill that was now 5200. The owner/manager **** was nice enough to tell me for 1200 and the title I could get my belongings. When I asked what gave them the right to do this they kept saying the PA towing and storage act 110 of 2012. I have read this act 20 times and it says nothing about the tow companies having the right to keep your property. I need the tools that I have worked my body sore to pay for to make a living. How these people can by law just keep them is absolutely unbelievable. This *************** even admitted that after the vehicle is determined abandoned they can keep my tools. I wasnt provided with any itemized receipt as to why the tow was so much or why it added 4000 dollars in.one month and a day. This is the definition of preditory towing.
