I had a hair appointment at Rowdy Roots on February 6 2024 at 2:45pm for a color, cut and highlights. I had been here a few timesbefore for the same services and it was not this bad. I explained that my gray is mostly at my temples and I needed most of the highlights in the front of my hair as I pull it back 90% of the time and the highlights there to blend the gray. She states that she only uses a product called Charcolite which is so much better than bleach and that she does not even carry bleach in her salon. The Charcolite allows a more "ash" color and less need for a toner, which were all things I wanted and why I started to go there in August 2023. I told her to trim my hair as needed. She started first with the dry haircut and I corrected her about the difference in length on each side so then she started cutting off much more on the opposite side and at that point I felt it was even. She then started with the color (root touch up for gray) that seemed to go smoothly and then the highlights that were to be more ash then brassy as she had done the other times I had been to her salon. As she was washing out the highlights she said she was going to need a toner (which I was surprised due to her using "Charcolite" and usually not needing the toner) but I did not say anything she put the toner on and then washed and conditioned my hair and then I went back to the chair. As she was drying my hair I did not really like the color in her lighting and another client came in and her sister so I felt rather rushed as she made the comment to the next client that she was running behind with me. Due to this rushed feeling I just paid and left and did not reschedule another appointment because I was not really happy with today's experience with her. However I paid her the $200.00 cash she requested and I tipped her $20 normally I do a 20% tip but only did 10% on this day because I was not really happy. I did question the price and she never gives a receipt or breakdown of the services as I normally have received at other salons. I paid cash this day because the other times I was charged an extra fee and she never said anything about the fee so I figured paying cash I would not have to pay this extra fee, I wish I had charged this appointment to a credit card because I would have been able to dispute this service. Which I have NEVER complained to any stylist in my life. I thought I would give it a few days and see if it got better, I knew the haircut was what it was and obviously I could not get the extra 6 inches back that she cut off and I ended up trimming about 1/2 inch off from my right side that she left too long and uneven. I messaged her on Friday February 9 2024 and sent a very polite message asking if she could put a few more highlights around my face since that was what I asked for and that it was very "brassy" not "ash".She replied quickly and said for extra money she could and she blamed me because of how long it had been since I was there last and my "regrowth" was too much and this is why this happened. I cancelled my appointment on December 8 2023 for December 12 2023 giving her notice so she could book someone in my spot. The I was very sick for many weeks and certainly did not want to contaminate her so as soon as I was feeling better I messaged her and asked for an appointment which was another few weeks longer, which I completely undersood. I just can not believe how nasty she got over asking her to correct some of the mess she made of my hair and to think I spent $220 and she told me to go have someone else correct it. She also told me "we are not a fit and to find another hairdresser" I was already planning on it which was exactly why I did not schedule another appointment when I left and I did not want to make a scene when I was leaving because she had another client and her sister in the shop, I was very upset but thought it would get better in a few days and when it did not I thought I could reach out to her privately, which is what I did and then because I had a concern we are not a "fit"!! When she used the toner she must have left it in too long because I have streaks of purple hair now too according to another stylist she said that was because the toner was left on too long or too strong. I will have to go spend at least another $200+ to get someone to fix her mistake how is that professional? It certainly is not!!

    Business Response

    Date: 02/13/2024

Rowdy Roots Salon was nothing but accommodating to Gina.

From day one she came in sporadically & with roots & images that were hard to achieve in one session.
She was told multiple visits not to wait so long as it becomes double the process to create what she liked when she first came in.
I only asked her to find another hairdresser due to every time she was in she spent the entire visit rudely complaining about people & events in her life which is not a fit it my Salon.
I tried when she came in to due the best possible with what she wanted to spend in one visit after constant cancellations.

Rowdy Roots' response is inaccurate and not true at all. I came there on August 15 2023 at 3pm due to seeing her hair pictures on Facebook. I called her and we spoke about my roots and then I scheduled this appointment. It had been several months since I had my hair done and I told her that upfront. As you can see in the picture she provided on that date on her Facebook post that my hair looked more blonde and "ash" not "brassy" this was the first time I came there with "regrowth" and it turned out well!! I was happy and booked my next appointment with her on October 10 2023 for the same thing roughly 7 weeks out and it turned out ok again so I scheduled my next appointment for December 12 2023 and I had a last minute opportunity to go to Florida to see our daughter and granddaughter and I gave her notice on the December 8 2023 thru messenger she appreciated me doing that as people just do "no call no shows" I was shocked to her that from her the other day I would never do that! I returned from our trip very sick and I told her that I did not want to get her sick and messaged her as soon as I was better and then her schedule did not accomadate for a few more weeks, which was no problem. I took her first available appointment. I got there and told her, same as last time and a lot of highlights around my face due to wearing it in a clip most of the time and also I needed it long enough to be pulled back n the clip. None of those things happened this time and there is barely any hair to pull back  as she cut it way shorter than the normal times I have been there. I have tried submitting all of the pictures I have and I am unable to do so. Her claims of asking me to find another hairdresser due to me talking negatively in her salon. The only personal things I shared with her was about my own personal health as well as my husband losing his job at a local business. There was no one else there and if she disliked me she could have declined my business at any time before all of this happened. She is only asking me to go elsewhere now because I was unhappy with the mess she left me with and I have our daughter's wedding in less than two months and my hair is so short now it is a mess and I asked for her to correct just the lacking brassy highlights. Never said anything about how short it was because I can not get that hair back!! She is also claiming that I cancelled appointments regularly, I cancelled ONE time as I was honest in my complaint!! As for most people like myself I can not afford to spend $200+ every 7 to 8 weeks therefore her claims about my "regrowth" is ridiculous as well. She is way off on all of her claims in every way. I did not repeatedly cancel appoinments, it was ONE time. I was not negative except about my own personal business!! AND no one else was there AND if she did not like me she could have not been available to do my hair!! So I do not accept her claims!!
