Date is service- 3/31/24, Patient-***********, dob: 7/23/21 My son who was 2 years old was seen at the ******************************* (****) ER, this hospital is in network with my insurance. The **** determined my son needed to be transferred to the ********************************** (CHOP) who is also an in network hospital with my insurance. **** and CHOP determined they would have one of CHOPs ambulances transport my son because he was not in the condition that I could drive him nor could he be discharged by ****. VMSC was then sent BY CHOP to transport my son by ambulance. VMSC billed a total of $2626.00 to my insurance who paid $578.68 and VMSC is balance billing me the remainder of the bill advising that they do not accept my insurance. Both hospitals who arranged this transport at in Net-work and both hospitals provided me paper work that I would not receive surprise billing and that no providers used would balance bill as out of network. That was not true. VSMC is billing me an absorbent amount as out of network. Further VSMC advised when I contacted them that they would not provide any kind of self pay discount or any discount at all. Even though they accept much lower rates typically. Additionally they are sending bills to my now 3 year old son who is a minor. Additionally, I spoke with ******************************* at VSMC who advised he was going to work with CHOP as that is who they are contracted with for services through in order to get the balance bill I g taken care of. I have followed up with ********************** no less than 4 times and he has not responded to emails or phone calls. VSMC have s been legality balance billing me over what my insurance carrier paid as stated above both hospitals who provided care to my child are both in network with my insurance and the hospitals initiated this transport with policies at both hospitals of no surprise or have billing for provides who are not in network. I will also be filing complaints against both hospitals.

    Business Response

    Date: 09/02/2024

    Dear Better Business Bureau,

I am writing in response to a complaint filed concerning the billing for ambulance services provided to a minor on March 31, 2024. We understand the patients mothers concerns regarding the bill, particularly since the services involved transportation between two hospitals that are in-network with her insurance.

After a thorough review of the situation, we acknowledge that while VMSC is not in-network with the patients insurance, which led to the initial balance billing, the circumstances were exceptional. Given that the services were coordinated by the in-network hospitals, we have worked with the patients mother to reach a satisfactory resolution.

We agreed to accept the payment that aligns with the in-network rate, which included the deductible and co-insurance amounts. The remaining balance was waived after these payments were made. We are pleased to confirm that this matter has been resolved to the satisfaction of all involved parties.

We appreciate the opportunity to address this complaint and are committed to providing quality service to our patients. We have removed all HIPAA information from our response, any direct patient information on this complaint was provided by the patient or their POA.

    Sincerely,
    *******************************
