On 4/12/25, I called One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning requesting a technician to come out asap and assess my furnace that was not working. A technician came out on 4/13/25. After a few minutes of inspection, the technician (****** ******), said a fuse had been blown. He asked if I wanted to replace it. I asked how much it would cost, and he replied, "4-0-9." Since a fuse costs around $1, I took that to mean $4.09 (since he did not say four hundred and nine dollars), so I agreed to the replacement. He said he would waive the $139 fee to come out. He prepared the documents on a tablet and had me sign the boxes. Each screen was already scrolled down to the boxes, so I did not see that the invoice said $409. Imagine my surprise to get an emailed invoice later that said $409 for a quick, easy repair! I called the company on 4/14/25 to discuss the potential billing discrepancy. After two more unreturned calls, a manager returned my call on 4/17/25, and we discussed the situation. He said the cost of the repair was $409. He was unapologetic when I said his technician should have been clear that it was four HUNDRED and nine dollars when making a quote. The manager claimed that they're trained to be clear. Hmmm. I asked the manager why a $1 fuse would cost $409, when a technician was only spending a few minutes to install it. He claimed that that fee covered their training and overhead. I asked, "Isn't that what the $139 service fee is for?" He claimed that the service fee only covers the initial phone call to request service. He asked if I had seen the cost when I signed, agreeing to the service, and I told him that I had not.. that each screen had already been scrolled to the box to sign, so I had just signed. He said I should have actually looked first. True. I didn't realize a business would take such advantage of a person. Since then I've taken a closer look at their bad reviews on ******. Looks like I'm not the only one they took by surprise.

    We appreciate the concern,

However we provide upfront pricing and ask the customer to agree to the price and require a signature for this exact reason prior to any work being started.

The customer  was quoted the $139.00 service call fee to come out and diagnose the system and  the technician then presented the customer with a price to fix the system, the customer agreed to the repair and signed off on the approval to begin the work. The technician waived the service fee and billed for the repair as agreed upon.

I am rejecting this response because: quoting 4-0-9 for a price does not specify four hundred and nine dollars - it is too vague. The technician did not show me the invoice... he scrolled past all the information, directly to the places for me to sign.

Does $409 for a 5 minutes repair job and $1 fuse seem appropriate?

What I would consider reasonable would be to pay the $139 service fee, plus an appropriate amount for the fuse itself (with consideration of it's value of approximately $1). It is my understanding that generally a service fee of $139 charged by a business would cover the call to schedule a technician, as well as the travel to/from the site, and the general assessment. Add on the labor of about 5 minutes to pop in a fuse, plus the cost of the part itself (at a REASONABLE rate), and that is typically what people would expect when dealing with an honest business.

    Regards,

    ***** *******

This complaint is towards One Hour Heating and Cooling in ********* **.I needed a technician to come to my house because the upstairs heating was not working. I also have their Family Member Plan..****** had come out and he determined that one valve needed to be open to my gas bolier. That fixed the problem. A 5 second fix... It was that simple a quick solve to my problem. A twist of a valve..I was charged $215.05 for him to open a valve. This is a rip off and should be illegal. I am a senior citizen and on a fixed income and I told him that. I e mailed One Hour Heating and Cooling three times to tell them that I was not happy and that I did NOT get a receipt.. I did not get any response back, and this is how they do business??I would have paid $50.00 for ****** to turn the valve not $215.05 I spoke to a manager **** on Monday Feb 12th.. **** did not really care, he was rude.I asked him to cancel my plan and he stated that he will cancel the Family Plan...But I have no idea if he was going to issue a credit on my charge card for the $215.?**** did say what would you agree on for a charge for his technician to come out?I said $50.00 because it was a simple twist of a valve..He basically hung up on **** want my money back less $50.00 And a receipt mailed to my house.
