I had Bowman check my HVAC system on 7/30/25 and they performed refrigerant refill, adding a leak sealant, and cleaning. The repairman left a s**** off and forgot to reconnect the humidifier drain tube. I was charged around $1224 which I thought was excessive for the amount of work and average refrigerant pricing for the area. I called the business to complain and they told me in a rude way something like it is what it is without any further attempt at resolving my concerns or listening. The business sollicited a review through an email and I gave them a below average review based on my experience. The HAVC system failed again 2 weeks later and I called them 8/21/25 since they did the job the first time and could have warranty on it. They came and concluded that the system needs replacement. An estimator later came to give me a quote. The next day I called to see when would I get the quote, I was told that they have a do not service on my account because of the bad review I submitted based on their request, which meant that they will no longer offer any services at my property. Nowhere in the email requesting the review is it stated that a bad review would affect future service. In the email they recommended to call if not satisfied which I did but was met with a rude response. This feels like retaliation. I was not going to write a review had they not solicited one. Also they could have resolved the matter on the phone when I called before writing the review. Instead of retaliating like this, they could have demonstrated good intentions and a good customer service by doing a better job this time around.

We gave the customer all of the information as you can you see from our invoice we don't recommend this - I can discount the refrigerant repair against a new system.  We also showed back up twice.

You can see from our invoice copy and pasted - we have a lot of disclaimers we go through with the customer.  Customer tried to blackmail us with review.

       Complaint: 23784014

I am rejecting this response because: the business is claiming I am trying to blackmail them with a review. The whole reason for the review was their poor customer service, above market pricing and the fact that they black-listed me from getting further services based on a bad review they solicited, as communicated from their customer service representative to over the phone (this was not addressed by the business). The offer to reimburse if I purchase a new system through them is appreciated, however because I was told they were not going to service me any longer, I went with another company which by the way offered me replacement at a much lower cost.

To resolve this matter, I do not request monetary reimbursement, but a public apology and acknowledgment of their poor customer service toward me and their unfair retaliatory behaviors in black-listing customers like me based on poor reviews.

We didn't do anything wrong - we came back out at no cost.  We gave all of the warnings in the invoice and with the technician.

You didn't communicate and wrote the review.  We always try to make it better but unfortunately jumping to conclusions doesn't help any situation.

I'm happy to say sorry but I'm not sure what we are sorry about besides you writing the review and if you feel that way we are not a good fit so why would we continue to service each other?

On Jan 22nd 2025 HL Bowman Installed a new furnace and with heat and air.I inquired if the duct work was ok and they said it will be all taken care of to working order with the new furnace.Cost over $10,000..First issue happend in June 2025 ,Six months after being intslled.Wasnt very cold and not holding temp. The servicre tech **** **** showed up on June 27th 2025,and worked on the unit.Said many issues were wrong from the initial installation. He corrected them to his ability. Then In July 22 2025 same issue. Not holding air.The tech **** ******* came out and said the outside unit was too close to the dryer vent and all the lint was getting sucked into the unit and the duct work was no loner attached to the furnace,(if the duct work would have been attached correctly with straps, screws ect) why would it after 6 months not be attached?? Then today July ******* **** came back again to move the unit away from the dryer vent and close to a tree with needles I wanted it the other directionaway from stuff taht can get sucked into the unit.(pin needles, leaves ect) He refused and I aske the superviser ******* about the duct work and nothing was done with either issue since **** got mad and left and nothing got ******** is to be closer to upper 90s the next few days, and the wont address the issues.I have many medical issues including leukemia and tonsile cancer and need air.I have not heard back from anyone as of today. After the $10000 spend on the furnace they want to charge me $2300 to work on the duct work to the furnace.I had a cerified plumber I know, who installed these units for over 40 years look and he said if the duct work was connected properly and either the tabs bent, strapped ot screwed ,it wouldnt drop in a few ********* was never secured from day one and now its not blowing correctly, and the unit needs to be moved away from dryer vents and trees for good circulation.Without the ductwork connected, what good is moving the unit?

      Business Response

We moved the outdoor unit for free.  The ductwork you can see is very old - it fell apart and is not our responsibility to fix.  We are happy to help at a discounted rate but it has nothing to do with our installation.

We contacted HL Bowman to schedule an estimate for duct cleaning. A tech came out on July 11. Prior to this visit, we have had zero issues with our AC unit for the past 8 years we have lived here. Our AC was functioning perfectly fine, our house was always the appropriate temperature. The technician came and evaluated the duct work, and also evaluated the outside unit. He gave us a quote for duct cleaning, and we told him we would discuss. Immediately after he left, we noticed the temperature in our home increasing drastically. My husband had left to run an errand and I called him asking what the tech did because we now had zero cold air. When my husband arrived back home within an hour, the temperature was 80 degrees in our home and there was zero cold air. I then contacted HL Bowman and was told by the technician to flip the switch on the breaker. I did this and it tripped the breaker immediately. We contacted HL Bowman and they said that same technician would be back out. He came back and immediately went to the outdoor unit and opened it up and began evaluating. He then informed us that the condensor unit was completely grounded and was nonfunctional. He stated our option was to now purchase an entire new HVAC system.I called HL Bowman and asked for a supervisor who stated due to this issue they would be willing to discount the price of a new unit from ****** to ****** However I stated this was not an acceptable resolution as the unit was working completely fine until they touched it. It was clear that they caused the heat pump unit to fail. Through several phone calls and a drawn out process, the supervisor informed me they will not be accepting any responsibility for this situation and is now dodging my phone calls. They had initially agreed to pay for a hotel for us for the weekend and pay for us to purchase AC units and now they are not responding to my calls.I have more helpful information to include but am out of characters if someone can please call me.

Here is from the first call:

Upon arrival I met with *****. He showed me to the basement where the air handler is located. During my thorough evaluation I noticed that there is a heavy build up of dust and dirt throughout the ductwork and there is mold growth throughout the supply ductwork and system. Upon further evaluation of the system I noticed that the compressor high stage solenoid is back feeding and supplying 190 volts, the compressor valves are worn, the refrigerant pressures are not within manufacturing specifications, and the indoor coil is heavily corroded. Went over information and options with *****. He needs to talk with his wife about everything and will give us a call back. Thank you for choosing H. L. Bowman!

Here is our notes from returning:

Upon arrival I met back with *****. He informed me that the breaker is tripping every time he rests it. During my thorough evaluation I noticed that the compressor is shorted to ground. When I was out this morning I was getting 190 volts at the base of the contactor on the common leg and only 120 feeding the contactor. The electrical was noted to be like this prior to me doing anything to the system and ***** understand this. Unfortunately the compressor is no longer available. Went over information and options with him. He understands the situation and does not believe I did anything to cause the issue. He also said that while the system was not running as well as it may have been able to it was still running; therefore, he feels we should cover the cost. Spoke with **** about the situation and he is going to do some more research. Thank you for choosing H. L. Bowman!

This is from our warranty tech:

Remove cover and control panel observed wiring and panel for marks ,no marks of shorting burns or mis wiring found. Wiring did not seem to have any marks on the terminals from high amperage draw, the high speed contractor has no signs of shorting with low speed . Checked windings found low speed shorted to ground.

You can see from the pictures are attached we had 190 volts when we were there on the first call.

Dear Better Business Bureau,I purchased a Lenox Air Conditioning Unit for $13,523 on August 12, 2024 from HL Bowman. The unit was fully installed and maintained by HL Bowman. The business committed to provide a total satisfaction guarantee including claims such as Buy it back guarantee if not 100% satisfied, Exclusive No Lemons guarantee on our risk free systems, and Professional Installation Guarantee. The unit was found to be not functioning correctly during a routine maintenance inspection on May 29th, refrigerant was added without finding root cause. The unit went down again on June 27th, 2025 and has been down since then. HL Bowman has had 3 different technicians attempt to identify the root cause without success- and refrigerant leaks out within ***** hours after charging. I have been without air conditioning in a heat wave have called multiple times, asked for emergency service, and they have not resolved the issue. They have indicated now that the issue is a coil that they need to replace that they cannot work on until 7-9-25. They have also booked repair appointments that they did not keep. I asked to log a formal complaint through their system- they could not point me in the direction of how to do that and the management team would not speak with me to log the complaint. I am logging a complaint because my brand new air conditioning unit has not been functioning correctly at least since June 27th 11 days, they have not been able to find/fix the root cause, they cannot provide timely support due to lack of staffing and I am not allowed to call other services provides as they have indicated that my warranty will be null and void in the event that I contact other service providers. I feel I have no other course of action rather than to log a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.I want the business to repair the air conditioning immediately.Thank you, ***** ****

I had service on my furnace in March, I had a flame sensor replaced that was a little over $300. The furnace started doing the same thing in April, early May. A technician came out and said I needed a control board, so I had that replaced, that was a little over $900. If these two things have been replaced why on 6/30/25 when I got home, I had no air, the thermostat was at 86 and when I tried to adjust the temperature, the unit shut off completely. This is not acceptable, I either want my money back so I can try and find a reputable company to repair the furnace, or this company to be honest and fix it properly

We already refunded customer approximately 220 dollars. We ran 4 extra service calls for free and gave the customer a capacitor. We have done more then enough to help this customer for things that dont fall into a normal warranty category.  Most of the issues were user error. The control board and flame sensor are not related in anyway.

My refrigerator stopped working properly so I called the * L *33373038303732333738* *** On May 5, their repairman said the fan was not working. *e would order a new fan & return later that week. I paid a $136.08 deposit. The total estimate was $544.32. *e returned on May 8th with a new fan but the old fan was working again. Then he said it was probably the defrosting system. I was to keep an eye on the frig. & watch for water on the floor. On Sat., the fan stopped working again. I called & finally got a call back on Monday, May 12. They said that the repairman would order the parts & come over later that week. By this time I was upset. My husband is 82 and handicapped & I am 77. Not having a working refrigerator was really hard on us. I had not seen any water on the floor so I thought it still might be the fan. The repairman came over later that day. *e took out the back cover and could immediately tell, just by looking, that it was the defroster! *e thought he could fix it without ordering new parts. After working on the defrosting system, he told me he was going to go ahead and put in the new fan. I asked him why. The old fan still worked. *e said I might as well have a new fan. *e put everything back together and said the refrigerator was working (It wasnt). I paid him the remaining $408.24. Before the repairman left he said that if this didnt work we would start over with a new estimate. By Tue. night, I knew for sure that the refrigerator wasnt working. By that time the repairman would not be back until the next week! I was exhausted by the whole thing. On Wed. morning I ordered a new refrigerator from *************** was delivered the next day. It is not as nice as the original refrigerator but I couldnt afford a better one.I wrote to the company owners & asked for a partial refund. I should not have to pay for the new fan & the installation of that fan since it wasnt the problem. I mailed my letter on May 21 & I have not heard from them.

In December 2024, my fianc hired HL Bowman to install a ******* battery backup sump pump system to help prevent basement flooding. During a recent rainstorm, the system failed entirely. The **** outlet tripped, and both the primary and backup pumps shut off at the same time, which resulted in flooding. The battery backup, meant to be a safeguard, did not activate, and no alarms were triggered.I contacted them after discovering the flooding, and after reaching a human agent, and with much resistance, a technician was dispatched. Upon arrival, the technician unplugged the sump pump I had temporarily rerouted upstairs to an outlet to stop flooding. He plugged the system back into the wall and I informed him that the outlet will trip shortly after being plugged in. I asked whether the electrical load was evaluated during installation, since a secondary pump and battery were added to the circuit. He said no, and that its not something they typically do.I also asked why both pumps were routed to a single **** outlet, creating a single fail point. He said this is their standard protocol. I noted that this goes against what most recommend, but he dismissed my concern and told me I was wrong. When I asked whether the system would actually prevent flooding, he stated if the primary failed or the circuit tripped, the battery and backup were just to assist the primary and would not prevent water damage as they could not handle the load that the primary does. He said a generator would have been a better solution, something we were never advised of.I also pointed out that the battery light was red. He said it was just recharging, without testing the battery or connection. He didnt inspect for any installation issues and stated that we just needed an ************** the end, he mentioned a $105 dispatch fee I wasnt informed of. Though he waived it, the lack of communication and the systems failure have left me with damage and a system that doesnt work as promised.

Unfortunately when we install a sump pump we plug it in and test it.  The sump pump does not every trip circuits unless they are faulty.  We dont ever see this problem.  The technician is correct on the electrical load.  A generator is always an option but would not fix the tripping of a faulty outlet unfortunately.  They do make alarms that can sense water we dont hardly install them.

Unfortunately we cant control an outlet tripping.

Bought a furnace in December of 2033 from Hl Bowman. They installed it and I have had nothing but problems. From furnace not working to leaking fuel all over the ground. Before furnace was replaced never had a problem with fuel leaks but after it was done I believe I lost several hundred dollars worth of fuel caused by not being properly installed. Also the furnace stops working on a monthly basis. Only time I never had a problem was during warm times of the year when furnace did not need to be on. Furnace is 1 yr and 2 months old and has been serviced approximately 10 times or more. I have called numerous times to see what can be done to help correct the situation and last time was met with no suggestions. Again all I wanted was a furnace that runs properly and does not break down on a monthly basis during heating season. Did not want to extend there yearly plan due to problems with the furnace not working and being new when they installed it.

We did have some problems stemming from the Oil Tank.  We replaced the oil line for free which was not included in the install. The last call the customer ran out of oil.  We have a warranty for a reason.  Everything is functioning correctly.

We had a collection of water in our basement. Previously a washer pipe had caused a similar situation so we thought they may be what happened this time, so we called HL Bowman. They came out to look at it and reported that it was underground pipes causing the flooding in our basement and needed replaced right away. We were instructed to not use very minimal water until it was fixed (no showers, wash, dishwasher, etc). We needed to be able to use water so we had it fixed right away. Less then a week later we had the same flooding only to realize it was the pump from our air conditioning system. The filter was clogged and needed cleaned out. We did that and no longer any flooding. This was an air conditioner that HL Bowman installed and didnt even know to look for this problem. The flooding was not from a clog in our pipes it was simply from the air conditioning. The flooding was exactly the same place so this was the cause all along. Our pipes at ********** may have needed replaced but it was not an emergency and did not cause the flooding. The township will be replacing all of the pipes they replaced in our neighborhood but b/c we were told we could not use any water we were led to believe we had no choice but to have the repair done. We attempted to call and discuss the matter wanting an adjustment for what we were charged but they were unwilling to offer any help or compromise at all.

You can see from the video the sewer line isnt in great shape.  I agree with our technician assessment.  As for the cost of the job.  We believe we charge a fair price.  We did cable the line and opened it.  We also run a camera that costs 15k through the line for the customer.  There is a lot more too it.

Date of Transaction 1.27.25 Amount: $559.94 Issue: Plumber dispatched to do a cable clearing of a sewage line after sewage back up occurred. Line was cleared and the homeowner was informed that the main sewage line was "Crumbling" and needed replacement. HL Bowman did not provide any camera footage backing up this claim. Seemingly taking advantage of the homeowners inability to check the work being done due to the line being underground. HL Bowman then quoted the homeowner $14,982.95 to do the repair of the supposed "Crumbling" & "Damaged" line. After receiving this estimate, the homeowner's insurance company sent out a different company to assess the issue. That company provided footage of a perfectly working main sewage line. The footage does not show any crumbling or damage as HL Bowman claimed existed. The second company stated that a replacement of the line was not necessary. Additionally, on average, sewage line clean up as was done by HL Bowman should only cost $250- $350. HL Bowman overcharged by a minimum of $200.
