Stay away from Erie Insurance Group. Before my auto insurance policy ended with Erie I went shopping for another cheaper insurance company. I chose Allstate and they called Erie to let them know they were my new insurer after my policy ended. **** told Allstate they needed it in writing. Allstate told me I don't have to send them anything, they were informed that Allstate is my insurer and to ignore any future bills which I did. Today I get a letter in the mail from a collection agency in the same city that **** is located in ************ that I owe them $266. I called a lawyer and he said it would be cheaper just to pay the bill and never use that insurance company again because it would cost me more to fight this bill in court. So anyone who is looking for auto insurance don't ever think about using **** because I sure won't.Review from Jesse L

In May 2023, we sold a house for which we had an Erie homeowner's policy, with no claims since July 2019. In June 2023, we bought a house and opened a new policy with Erie. This house was built in 1910 and has 2 chimneys in need of some repairs. The 1st chimney is for an open-hearth wood fireplace, the 2nd chimney is for a wood burning stove. Of course, we had the home inspection completed before purchase, but a thorough chimney sweep and inspection was done 10/31/23. That inspection report revealed 1) the open fireplace is unserviceable, has no chimney liner, and should be converted to a gas or electric fireplace; 2) the wood burning stove (installed in the 1970s) actually has a broken firebox and baffles and is unserviceable. Erie Insurance required that inspection report. Once they received it, underwriters sent a letter on 12/8/23 requiring repairs in order to continue coverage: 1) disconnect the wood burning stove pipe and cover pipe, 2) repair the chimney and clear out buildup of creosote and soot, 3) install appropriate chimney liner. As this letter is unclear about which chimney, I called my agent to get more detail. I was also hoping to discuss alternative solutions because with 2 unserviceable wood-burning appliances, I will not be burning any wood in my house. If I do not burn wood, the risk to the structure and my family is zero. My agent clarified the work being commanded of me and liaised with underwriting multiple times but could never offer me any alternative solution. Underwriting has stood firm that these 2 appliances are a danger to the structure and anyone in it. As such, they will not allow the policy to continue past the end of the current term. Subsequently, I called customer service and spoke with someone in the 'President's ******* who was also not willing to make any concessions for me. A BBB complaint failed to reach a compromise, as this is deemed a 'policy dispute'. I have also filed a complaint with PA insurance department.Review from Daryl B

Avoid Erie auto insurance. Bad experience around my auto policy being cancelled, the letter they claimed they mailed via US Mail never came- we check our PO Box routinely and nothing of the like came. You would think that, if they were serious about customer service, they would text or email as well for whatever the original issue was. I went to *********** and the customer experience there is a breeze compared to Erie. I'm also moving my small business commercial insurance away from Erie. I'm done with them.Review from Holly M

Jumped through hoops to deny my roof claim from hail damage. First inspector approved it but then property adjuster, ****, asked her to falsify the report and say there was no damage. Erie paid thousands for another 'independent' inspector to travel hundreds of miles to inspect my roof. He found roof damage but said that 'it had to be caused by hail at least one inch in diameter and the storm which I cited in the claim only produced hail 3/4 of an inch in diameter'! Furthermore, they stated that there had been no hail of one inch since 2017 and my policy took effect in 2018 - therefore denied! Almost every home in my neighborhood experienced hail damage and got a new roof from the same storm including the house across the street from me. Same age home, same Erie Insurance, but different property adjuster. His claim was accepted without question. I filed a claim with the Illinois Department of Insurance. What a joke. Erie lied to them, twisted the facts and omitted information and the state said 'okay'. Classic case of the little guy getting screwed! Or was I targeted because I am a widowed, female senior citizen. Easy target they figured. Local rep no help at all.Review from Felicia B

Their insured hit my properly parked car in a Rural King parking lot in Sept of 2023. After multiple harassing phone calls and a meeting with their adjuster, if finally received noticed of them denying my claim. Their insured lied and sadi they didn't hit my car. Police report states the damage on my vehicle matches the damage on their vehicle . I was in my car on the phone with my husband when this imbecile hits my parked car. I would never do business with this company nor recommend them.Review from adam g

Avoid ****** ** ********* at all cost. Our company has spent over $20k per year for many years with Erie Insurance. Unfortunately, ****** ** ********* was assigned to assist our business for a small claims loss. ****** ** *********, the representative for Erie is anything but professional. ****** does not return calls, he actually blocks your number so you are not allowed to reach him. There is a host of issues regarding professionalism, courtesy and basic communication standards. We have been forced to call Erie Corporate. Corporate provided us with his supervisors contact info. We are now making some progress. Our wish is for corporate to hold their reps like ****** ** ********* to higher standards and to hold them accountable for poor performance, in this case, zero performance.Review from Jimmy F

My name is ***************************** and I am a roofing contractor, owner of RJF Exterior LLC. I just want to say this company has an excellent adjuster with *********************. This guy is an ex-contractor so his experience stands out amongst other adjusters I have met. The company as a whole has been great to deal with for me and my clients but this guy in particular is great!Review from Dominic C

RUN. Don't walk away from this company. They do NOT care about their customers. It took them 23 days to respond to my 14+ outreaches for a status update on my claim. I never heard from the rep assigned to my case and each time we called, his VM was full. We text the line we are told to text and get no response. When we finally heard back (the collision shop, my personal agent, and myself had to call him 10+ times) he was ****, and blamed the collision shop for HIS mistakes. We only got in touch with him because the main office transferred us to his line, which was answered immediately but somehow, the call dropped. It got to the point the collision shop was calling him direct because they were sick of waiting for him to show up. Of course, after we formally complain, we get a response but the fact that 3 separate parties had to get invovled just to CONTACT this adjuster, it really shows this company has 0 care for the customers they somehow have no clue what customer service actually is. If you are a current customer, please, cancel your policy and go elsewhere. Shameful performance from a company I've paid monthly, for 5 years.
