My experience with The Brooklyn Builder was good at first until he tried to play games with his fees and providing an appropriate estimate. He provided me with an estimate of work to be done without seeing more than pictures. This should have been a red flag, but I now know better for future jobs. While he is capable of good work, he decided that he would leave several of the finishing tasks of the job for me to finish myself. Since I had given him half the money in cash upfront, I expected him to possibly not even show up to do the job based on other complaints filed here. To get at least what I paid in, I allowed him to come to do the job. After he completed partials jobs (exterior door install and threshold replacement), I told him we would need to discuss what the balance due was given how much he left unfinished. He told me he couldn't leave a job unpaid and threatened to call the police, which he did. He clearly doesn't understand how contracts work as the police don't get involved in these matters. He sued me for the balance and lied in court, saying I agreed to allow him to leave construction trash at my house for me to dispose of. I would never hire him again due to shady business practices.
