    MHI Contracting (***** McKeown) / ****** ****** Deck Project - Consumer Complaint Unreasonable Delays Consumer - *** ******: ************ Contractor - ***** McKeown(MHI): ************ Summary 3/26/24 - I signed with MHI to demo existing deck and build a new composite deck.MHI and I both agreed to a timeline where the project would start by mid May and be completed by 5/27 (Memorial Day). Paid the initial deposit of $10,550. Total cost of project is $42,200 with the following payment schedule. Delay #1 - 5/1/24: I called MHI to confirm the deck project was on track and was informed he had a family emergency and the start date would be delayed until 6/3.Delay #2 - 6/2/24 - The project is delayed a couple days to 6/5 due to MHI not providing a Certificate of Insurance(COI) to *******************************. Delay #3 - 6/5/24 - 6/24/24: The project is delayed due to *** not providing the proper paper work to ******************************* to pull the permit 6/24/24- demo started on existing deck. I made the demo payment of $10,550. Delay #4 - 7/15/24: I received an email from *** that my project would be delayed due to unforeseen circumstances and lack of employees. This delay occurred just two business days after *** cashed a check($10,550) for the framing payment (framing was not completed). 8/6/24 - MHI and the ******************************* inspector were out to address the inspectors concerns. Both the inspector and *** were on the same page with the corrections needed with the framing already completed. I expressed my concerns to *** that it was simply UNSAFE to walk out my back door. *** stated work should resume the week of 8/12/24. Delay # 5 8/19/24 - Work has still not resumed, I sent an email and left 3 voice mails for *** the week of 8/19 asking for a status update.8/27/24 - I have not heard from MHI since 8/6/24 when he met with the Upper ******** Project Inspector. All recent emails and voice mail messages have not been returned.

    The contractor has failed to meet promises and now is unresponsive to calls and text messages. Work was started later than promised despite providing timely payment according to contract. work performed has been completed on an "off and on" basis at the owners discretion. We have requested schedules on work and plans to complete. The contractor has failed to furnish these requests. Work is promised to be completed but each commitment is not met. Despite the contractor claiming labor shortage, he is sending workers to jobs that were behind us in schedule. His crew does not understand how the work is being assigned. Additionally, one of the contractor's vendors showed up at our door to notify that he intended to put a lien on our home due to contractor's non-payment.

    On 8/20/22 I signed a contract with ***** McKeown to convert my 2 garage doors into one 16' door.The cost was $8,275 and he required a 50% deposit of $4140.He stated he would be able to start the word in the 3rd or 4th week of September 2022.The work never began and on November 2,2022 he wrote the 3rd week of January,2023 would be the latest start date. Feb.2, 2023 he wrote he had not received the door yet.April 26, 2023 he wrote he had medical problems.May 4, 2023 again he responded to my request of when the job would start with more medical issues he was having.I asked him to return my deposit on May 4, 2023.***** responded on May 9, 2023 he would return my deposit in the next 2 weeks.It is now June 25 and the deposit has not been returned .

    I heard back form ***** McKeown that he will return my deposit in installments. He dropped a check off to my home for half of my deposit. I will continue my complaint until I receive the balance owed of $2070.
