I had John Wilcox Plumbing and Heating come out and do a myriad of small things on September 24, 2021. They told me that they could not leave until receiving payment, or they would have to remove everything. The charge was $725.50 which I agreed to pay. Their system would not take my credit card because it said the zip code was invalid. I said that was impossible because the credit card has only been associated with one address, we just moved here and have yet to change it. The plumber told me that his colleague was on the way and would work it out. When his associate arrived, he sent me the bill via text message that read $777.50. I disputed the additional $52 dollars, and said I wasn't going to pay extra because their system didn't work. The associate then threatened to call the police and charge me with theft of services. I paid the $777.50 and told them to leave (they didn't until "payment was verified")

I was quoted $250-$350 for installation of a refrigerator water line. I was then charged $449 for the job which took only a half hour to complete. They came unprepared to drill through a tile floor and then charged me for purchase of a drill bit which they then decided to keep. I called to inquire about the increased price and was refused a breakdown of the bill while being belittled and talked down to like a child. Find someone else for your plumbing or heating needs.

We estimate for a typical job. Yours had a few extras that increased your price slightly. Our plumber asked if you wanted a rough hole through the tile floor with his hammer drill or wanted us to pick up a ceramic tile bit. You preferred we pick up a diamond tile bit, so you have a perfect hole. It was used exclusively on your job and added to your total. We talked on the phone and via text in hopes to satisfy you. Here is those questions and answers: 1. Why was the price higher than expected? You quoted $250-350. Yes, we needed to drill through your tile floor. Yes, we needed to buy a special drill bit for your ceramic tile. Your final charge was $389.16 (only $39.16 higher than your original estimate). 2. Why did you charge me a service call fee? We charge a service call fee for all our jobs. It covers the time tech time behind the windshield not working, fuel, and vehicle insurance, etc. 3. Why wont you itemize the bill after you have quoted me a flat rate? When you request a flat price for a specified job. The only way it changes is when the scope of the job increases. Since tilers typically drill the hole behind fridge for water lines to refrigerators that is beyond the original scope of your job. Alternatively, you could ask us for our time and material charge which would not have given you an estimate before work begins. Instead, you would be surprised at the end. In most cases customers request ballpark pricing like you did before work began.
