We signed on with Big’s sanitation to pick up our garbage. They charged us $240 up front to Rent their garbage can, and the first quarter of garbage pick up. In the first month the company has only showed up 1 time and not on the scheduled day, we had to call numerous times to have them come pick up our garbage. We called today to find out what the problem is, and we’re told by a very, very rude person that as long as they come once, there are no refunds. We paid $240 up front and have not been provided service on our regularly scheduled day at all. Is this a scam, where they take your money up front then don’t provide a service? This company obviously can not provide the service they were contracted for. I would like my money refunded in full and the company to pick up their equipment if the service can not be provided. This company is causing unsanitary conditions at my house and in my neighborhood. Please help to get a resolution.Initial Complaint

I have been with Bigs Refuse for 4 years at my restaurant. My bill was on auto pay via CC. This month my expiration changed on my card. I received a call from their team, She informed me i would need to fill out a new form and that if i didnt do it is this time manner then i would pay this fee and that fee. Now we are one day past when they tried to charge the card. I promptly filled out the form same day. I decided it was time for a new service based on my interactions with them. a week later informed them that on October 1st i was removing their service, I am paid through October 1st. They informed me there would be a fee to remove the dumpster, i explained i paid a fee to have them delivered, it dont think i should pay a fee to have them removed when you no longer have my account. I said i wasnt paying the fee they could leave the dumpsters there for all i cared. The very next morning they came and removed our dumpsters early, two weeks prior to the cancellation date without any warning. I was informed when i called that Joe, the owner made the decision to remove my service and he was keeping my remaining two weeks i paid as a fee to remove the dumpsters. We are a restaurant, they left us with no way to dispose of trash on a weekend. I have had to call a company and pay extra to have a roll off dumpster delivered as this was our only way to remain compliant with health code. No other company was able to deliver us dumpsters before mid next week. I still haven't received a refund. It seems as though there is a theme with this company, bad attitude employees that filters down from a poor owner.Business Response

We notified the customer on 09/07/2023 that his Auto pay
card has expired and we would need a new on so we can update his account and he
would not accrue any late fees. On 09/09/2023 we sent him a new Auto pay form and
informed the customer by Monday 09/11/2023, we would need to have that returned
to us so he does not get any late fees, since our billing is due by 9/05/2023
and the system does get a 5 day grace period. On 09/14/2023 customer stated he was ending
service on October 1st and was not paying our removal fee. Each time a box is delivered or removed there
is a fee since we do have to pay a delivery driver to take or go pick up the
box. We did not charge the customer the removal fee. On 9/15/2023 we credited
the customer back $120.00 ticket number: ********* and then again we credit
$100.00 ticket number: *********. We prorated his account for not being serviced
from the 15th to 30th, and any difference was refunded back
to him. We do not make our customers
sign a contract, but we do notify them of any charges made to their accounts.Customer Answer

For the month of August my garbage company is refusing to pick up my trash. For 12 years I’ve never had an issue with getting my trashed picked up. I complain and a supervisor never returns my calls. I had boro officials call on my behalf and they were told that I need to cut grass (which is not my grass to maintain but penndot) Then I was told to put my cans 3 ft away from route 88 on a curb. There is no curb where I live. Then I was also told they can’t go on private property in the same breath they told me to put my trash at the end of my driveway 3 feet way from the road.Initial Complaint

As of 4/1/23 Bigs Sanitation started picking up our trash in the Borough of Wall , Pa.
The first week was normal, the second week , they took 3 large rubber totes that have been set beside my outdoor trash bin since last October. And they did not empty any of my trash cans . I called the company and the secretary said she would notify the dispatcher. Needless to say my trash is overflowing now that they have not returned since to pick it up. Btw , I had over $250 of flea market items in the rubber totes that they took ., which they had to have opened and looked in them first.
Btw , they are charging twice as much as the previous company. I also called the local borough and left a message and have not heard back . .Business Response

So, we have picked up the trash here for the first time on 4-07-2023. We did check our cameras and didn't pick up the totes from this location. We got our contract with the borough of wall as of being the only ones to bid the contract. We do not bill the residents directly the borough of wall does.Initial Complaint

The owner of this company has refused to mail owed refunds to our entire community of Washington Township PA. Stating we can pick them up ourselves. I am owed a refund of approximately $60 from big’s sanitation. My township switched to a new company and I had paid Bigs for the month of March for both of my houses. The owner, Joe, is refusing to mail it to me telling me that I can pick it up at the township building in March 17 between 9-1:30 or at his business in Elizabeth during normal business hours. I explained that I work and cannot take a day off work to pick up my refund and requested that it be mailed to me. He told me he would not do this because I can say that I didn’t get it. Further told me that he is a multimillionaire with a multimillion company and does not care what people think of him. He told me he does not work for me and I cannot tell him what he has to do. He further antagonized me by telling me that if I get bored later I can call him and telling me to make sure I wrote down that on March 10 at 9:58am he sighed during our conversation. I have never been treated so disrespectfully in my life. I am only asking that the money owed to me be mailed to me and don’t understand why I have to be disrespected and treated so poorly. I would also like to mention that I have never made a late payment to this company.Business Response

In no way shape or form have we ever told her that we will not process her refund. We were trying to make it easier for the residents to get their refund. We will be at the Washington Township Borough building between 9:30am to 1:00pm to pass out refund so the process will go a little bit faster and smoother. If they are unavailable to come to the borough building on that date, they will have to come into our office at 475 West Newton Rd, Elizabeth, PA 15037 between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm where we will gladly process their refund.Customer Answer

I received the new quarterly bill from Bigs sanitation which was 250% more than last quarter. I had asked him to remove me from service. Joe (the owner) is how he replied said you can not be removed from the service we will put a lien on your house. He then told me no one made a bid on Washington township and his was the only bid that was approved. I proceeded to tell him that not the township nor did Bigs sanitation let the customers know there was going to be a rate increase. His response was not my problem talk to your township. This is a Municipality Bid it is mandatory that they use us for rubbish removal. There is a ordinance that the lowest bidder shall be the Only Hauler. Also, the costumer ask to go back to the way it was before, it can only go back if it goes out for Rebid. The borough has to approve the Rebid. To sum everything up the customer is responsible to pay their garage bill. Also, the complaint is welcome to be at the township meeting at Thursday the 19th at 4:00pm.Initial Complaint

On Wednesday September 14th Biggs picked up my garbage and left some scattered all over my street. Did not attemp to pick any of it up. This is an ongoing situation with them and I have filed with the BBB AND A FEW OCCASIONS. For some reason this company thinks they can do or say anything they want and they get away with it. PLEASE SHUT THIS COMPANY DOWN!
